Re: Wilt Chamberlain vs. Muhammad Ali 1967
Wilt slept with 20,000 women and never had any kids.
I wouldn't put anything past him. (except winning a fight with Ali)

After 50-100 or so you stop keeping count...
So when you hear 20,0000 etc its no doubt
a mega gross over estimate.. or alot of orgies
where you go for brief dips.

Check out that move at 7:50 seconds.Looks like Wilt would have had a stong stiff jab.Brutu wrote:Here is the clip of Muhammad Ali and Wilt Chamberlain with Howard Cosell that was recorded March.10.1967
for ABC's WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS.
When Ali was still the undisputed Heavyweight champion and 12 days later would fight Zora Folley.

I dont think comparing him to Ernie Terrell just because Terrell was tall.
Terrell 's jab IMOP was never particulalarly fast or powerful.
Wilt was a tremendous athlete with an equal desire to suceed in whatever he did.
Re: Wilt Chamberlain vs. Muhammad Ali 1967
The first proposed fight had been scheduled for
June.29.1968 at the Houston Astrodome
A few years later they had planned to fight again,
for July.26.1971 at the Houston Astrodome
but that fight was called off a few weeks before the fight because Wilt's lawyer wanted Wilt's purse of 500,000 dollars to be tax free.
(Ali was to get One Million)
Here is a link to a press photo from what looks to be from 1971.
Wilt weighed about 290 lbs then.

Check out this link to a rare lobbycard for Ali-Chamberlain.
The date lists the event as October.4.1971,so they must have re-scheduled it again.

Seems kind of funny that Chamberlain's proposed fights with Ali always seemed to come up around the same time
that Wilt was renogociating his contract for basketball.

It's quite interesting that Ali was actually trying to sell the fight.Brutu wrote:Check out that move at 7:50 seconds.Looks like Wilt would have had a stong stiff jab.Brutu wrote:Here is the clip of Muhammad Ali and Wilt Chamberlain with Howard Cosell that was recorded March.10.1967

We all laugh at the bitch slaps in basketball fights but not all of them go down the same path.Ezzard wrote:My guess is a decent welterweight would have beaten Wilt. There's nothing more hilarious than watching basketball players, footballers, or whoever flaining away at one another when things get heated in a game. They simply cannot fight.
Besides the training regime of a top athlete is not the same as the training regime for a fighter.
Washington swung around and hit Tomjanovich with a roundhouse. The punch, which took Tomjanovich by surprise, fractured his face about one-third of an inch (8 mm) away from his skull and left Tomjanovich unconscious in a pool of blood in the middle of the arena. Players involved often say that right after Tomjanovich collapsed, the silence at the arena, filled with shocked fans, was "the loudest silence you have ever heard. As it turned out, Tomjanovich came very close to dying on the court. Besides having the bone structure of his face detached from his skull, he was leaking blood and spinal fluid into his skull capsule. Tomjanovich would later recount that at the time of the incident, he believed a scoreboard fell on him.

Re: Ali, Wilt, and Shaq
He's a good athlete but I wouldn't say great. He was one powerful dude though, that's how he was able to dominant, with his strength.Chuck1052 wrote:Muhammad Ali was asked to say what would happen if
he fought Wilt Chamberlain. "Timber!" replied Ali.
Shaq isn't a great athlete? You have got to be kidding
me! In order to be a top pro basketball player, you
have to a tremendous athlete no matter how big you
are.

Conan took care of him.

Tomjanovich was running down the court toward someone else, when Washington wheeled around and punched him in the face.

Maybe this 7-foot basketball player may have had a potential career in boxing(if all his opponents were 5 feet 7" anyway that is.)

BTW ,Bruce Lee also trained Joe Lewis(the Caucasian Karate guy)who was orginaly supposed to play the part of Chuck Norris
in Way of the Dragon, but they had some type of falling out,and for some reason Lewis never did give Lee any props for training him to win all those tournaments.
Re: Wilt Chamberlain vs. Muhammad Ali 1967
I dont know if it was PR BS,but it was claimed in 1971 that Wilt Chamberlain fought as an amateur boxer when he was young
in the 1950's.("at least a dozen fights") You would figured if so,that more would written about it,since a 7 foot boxing teenager would have drawn some attention back then.I cant recall anyone ever researching this.

Reality Check:
If DLH out points Shaq
Ali KO's Chamberlain
If DLH out points Shaq
Ali KO's Chamberlain
Re: Wilt Chamberlain vs. Muhammad Ali 1967
In your opinon ,does this 7 foot tall basketball player have either a strong long southpaw jab or just a punch lacking knockout power?
or is it what some like to refer to as a punjab?

Re: Wilt Chamberlain vs. Muhammad Ali 1967
What on earth are we discussing anyway?
There are millions of big guys on this planet who can land and take a huge punch, but not all of them would do well in boxing. There is just more to this sport than just athleticism and it would take more than just a few weeks of boxing lessons for Wilt to land a single solid punch on a pro boxer like Ali. If you are implying that any big guy can make it in boxing, you are degrading this sport to bar-fighting.

Right,Im not sure how this thread about Wilt Chamberlain,a towering sports legend, became polluted with thugs masquerading as sporting basketball players.sixpack wrote:What on earth are we discussing anyway?
