Fun idea!!Goodnight, Irene wrote: Jim Jeffries: "Take a lickin'. Keep on tickin'."
I guess I just don't consider "taking a licking" for Jeffries.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Jeffries was well-regarded for his ability to absorb copious punishment, even in victory. He was outright hammered in some of his successes.
I beg to differ. Mines is clearly the best. :)Goodnight, Irene wrote:Best one yettzyuforever wrote:Kostya Tszyu - Turing Lightweights into Welterweights since 1992

Joe Palooka said it, when he managed to win a few.Goodnight, Irene wrote:For whom?bennie wrote:"Kill the body and the head will die."
It's a Philly thing, I believe.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Chavez, Frazier, or Arguello could patent it, though.
Dempsey reportedly said it in the 1920s. I have also heard it attributed to Sam Langford.Goodnight, Irene wrote:For whom?bennie wrote:"Kill the body and the head will die."
The only fight in which I recall Jeffries receiving "copious" punishment was the Fitzsimmons fight in 1902. Fitz busted Jeff up pretty badly before Jeff rallied to win in the 8th. In Jeff's defense, however, there were rumors that Fitz used a foreign substance on his hands, and may have removed padding from his gloves.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Jeffries was well-regarded for his ability to absorb copious punishment, even in victory.
