The Sun: Audley vacates Euro Belt?

Post by rapid2 »

AUDLEY HARRISON has vacated his European crown — clearing the way for a world title shot later this year.
Harrison, 38, is currently recovering from surgery on a torn pectoral muscle following his last-gasp KO of Michael Sprott in April.

The Londoner had hinted he would have one more fight before targeting fellow Brit David Haye or the Klitschko brothers.

But A-Force is in a hurry to box for one of the major world titles — and it appears he may get his wish when he returns from injury in October.

Harrison said: "I'm told by my promoters that both Haye and the Klitschkos have expressed an interest in facing me when I return after rehab.

"If it's either of the Klitschkos, Vitali or Wladimir, the task will be hard — but that's how I want it.

"I respect both brothers as they are effective at what they do. However, both can be beat.

"As I said before, Haye is a false prophet, one punch on that chin and it will shatter like glass.

"If I was him, I'd keep running from the Klitschkos and keep beating up on shop-worn American heavyweights.

"Whatever the route, I will find a way to fulfil my destiny and become heavyweight champion of the world."

Harrison defied the critics by fighting with one hand for most of his bout with Sprott for the vacant Euro title at London's Alexandra Palace.

His heart for pro boxing had been questioned regularly since joining the paid ranks following glory at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

But promoter Eddie Hearn believes the American-based fighter still has what it takes to achieve his dream.

Hearn said: "Everyone wants to fight Audley because they know what he brings to the table.

"We are in discussions with the Klitschkos and Adam Booth and David Haye regarding a world title shot later this year.

"We are keeping our options open right now but the Haye fight is huge.

"Audley's last two appearances in the UK have attracted record viewing figures, so couple that with Haye's popularity and this is the biggest fight the UK has ever seen."

If this is true then it looks like Haye vs Harrison is going to happen, imo.

Why groan? This will be a massive event for the UK, not seen in the heavies since Bruno Vs Lewis way back when. This is what boxing is about - this will be massive and I cannot wait! :box:

Bruno and Lewis were both leading heavyweights.

Audley isn't even proper European level, he won his belt by beating Sprott, who had already beaten him, and who has been beaten by plenty of times by European fighters.

I've little interest in this fight except for curiosity value. Audley has done nothing to deserve a title shot, nothing at all.

Yes, but Harrison is an OLYMPIC GOLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION and that will make this fight huge.

Agree he's done not much really to earn the shot but I'll take a big event like this as they are few and far between sadly in British boxing.

The only reason this may be a big event is that people are dumb, and they fall for shite being hyped as shinola.

This is a pants fight - I've no doubt that Audley will end up flat on his arse unconscious again. For all Haye's flaws, he's got bigger balls, a bigger punch, and fights with way more alacrity than Audley ever has.

Audley is a fascination for the vast majority of this forum. Look how much traffic any Audley topic generates. Plus he might just beat Haye. Or more likely fight frightened and get mullered.

But he's Audley. An enigma wrapped in a cloak of delusion. With a lining that hints at something genuinely classy.

You can quote me. And hold me to every word..

Audley will be the one making the fight and Haye will be the guy using the more negative tactics.

I'm not saying Audley will win ... But Haye will do his usual style of circling & circling ....and circling plenty more, before throwing his single shots.

I can't believe people still fall for Aud's bullshit....

Trailing to Sprott then landed a bingo punch.......won Prizefighter against a bunch of no-marks and faded fighters......

And now he's ready for Haye and the Klits? Give me a break.

This will have shades of Haye/Enzo. Audley will look petrified before doing the chicken dance in two rounds!

Whatever mate, I thought this was a forum for discussing boxing last time I checked - or is it obligatory to heap praise on any old dogshite match that's made. Why should I endorse a fight that I think is a joke.

If you don't like the attitude on boxrec, go to another forum.

it nearly brings a tear to my eye the state of heavyweight boxing. i mean wtf? a guy who narrowly beats a journeyman with 14 defeats is getting talked about for a world title shot?? i for one will not be watching this joke of a fight and have no interest in david haye whatsoever until he backs up all his trash talk and fights a klit....hell i will even take chagaev or adamek!

Hahah! When has Audley ever 'made' the fight against anyone? Do me a favour. Haye has been the aggressor in every fight bar one that I can recall, and that was against Valuev, who has a rock solid chin.

Audley will just paw with the jab and shuffle around like he usually does. The minute he leaves an opening, Haye will start dropping some bombs, and Audley will retreat into his shell again.

Harrison VS Haye?

Audley will be humbled... He will feel the brute power of "The Hayemaker" and he will be humbled...

A-Fraud's bets bet would be to saty away from either of the Kiltchskos, because they will make him look stupid...

Though, being a Harrison hater, I would like to see Vitali Klitchsko beat the crap out of him.

What's wrong with you all? Audley is one of the most dangerous heavyweights on the planet when he can be bothered. He's like Roy Jones, in that he just needs to be tested. He CHOSE to lose to Martin Rogan, Michael Sprott, Danny Williams and Dominic Guinn. It was his way of luring everybody into a false sense of security. We all know that the way to grab a world heavyweight title shot is to lose fights, as opposed to, God forbid, actually winning them. Harrison has hustled the whole division into thinking he's a shit-scared, chinny, no-hoper with the workrate of a benefits cheat. Now the real 'A-Force' will emerge :box:

I totally agree :(

And that my friend is the state of world class heavyweight boxing today :(

Audley against any of the K-bro`s ... well, he gets mullered. Their size cancells out Old-Auds size.. he has absolutely nothing in the armory against either brother
Audley against Haye ... I see it as a real 60/40 contest. Old-Aud has the size to be a real threat as long as he is standing .. as was shown in the 2nd Sprott fight. And if he manages to land with any sort of decent punch, then haye will be in trouble at least ... and lets not forget that Audley can turn it on very good to get a hurt guy out of there.

I find this match-up decent enough. I certainly wouldn`t PPV to see it ... but all things considered.
We get two delusional loud mouthed trash talkers against one another ... :TU:

i hope sosnowski can fight someone like rogan or sexton for the EBU title. he's a fit, brave, willing fighter, is the pole. i'd love to see him win the belt back, get back in the winning column and attract a fight with similar sized countryman tomasz adamek. that would be the haye-audley of poland and i'm sure an entertaining fight with loads of punches, while adamek waits for the title shot he presumably earned from outboxing chris arreola.

is hearn planning on getting sosnowki back in line for the EBU title, following his tough loss to vitali klitschko?

come on, make audley vs haye. now we know why audley was fighting one-handed, because he'd injured his pectoral. so he extra did well to KO sprott. he's cleaned the slate - revenge over williams, revenge over sprott, and after losing to prize fighter winner rogam he won a prize fighter himself and got great vieiwng figures. audley may not be good enough, but he has "earned" his shot in terms of ratings and in titles (EBU champ). haye-audley has the backing of sky sports, the industry wants it, it'll make a healthy profit, have great ratings and they can showcase some good title fights (domestic, or european) and some talent, on the undercard.

 do you even bother watching the boxing anymore?

I take it you haven`t watched Haye since his move to heavyweight? I take it you had him on the front foot constantly against both Valuev and Ruiz?

Watch both fights

haye will back off and circle the ring looking to throw a big bomb as he did in both his last fights .. .thats how he does it now ...
Maybe you should watch one or two of Audleys fights .. sure he is alot of the things most people critisize him for ... but when he wants to, he can turn it on pretty good.
Just take a look at how he got rid of Danny Williams that time ...

boxing isn't just 50-50 fights for hardcore fans. it's also showbusiness. any fighter who can come through the tough cruiserweight division deserves to cash it in as a heavyweight. if haye beats audley he'll be a household name.

klitschkos won't be around forever. but does anyone think sauerland (who already have a piece of haye) or universum are going to be any easier to deal with? if haye can draw big #s, then he can be the man that everyone goes to for the payday.
