Some good sparring there with Anderson around. He seems really eager to fight for the rish Title. Hopefully he gets his chance.

Any footage of O'Brien around at all?
Hopefully a good performance this weekend will push him into a mandatory spot for Haughian's title.

As for video footage - have you seen my new YouTube channel?
I have indeed, subscribed to it aswell. It's something that was needed. Good job. :TU:

Agh thats who you are. Its a big step up for Stephen and I would have McIntyre a slight favourite. He really through away his fight against Thompson when he had him rattled. Are you going over?

Dont know if im going to make it , i usually go but i have t in park this year and some arrears lol so il wait till nearer time, i think inactivity got the better of Kev against Thompson as between that and his fight before he didnt really live the life , dont get me wrong he was in great shape but maybe could have had a little 8 rounder before that as he only had 1 round against flournoy and it got scrapped , the problem the scottish scene is dire so no real chance for local shows for him to get warm ups etc so it seems to be prospects he fights .

Needs to win this one and fancys it. :TU:

Good man! :TU: Myself and 'joepenguin' are going up to cover and support his fight tonight. I shall return with arms ladden with interviews, fight reports and videos including the man himself 'El Alguacil' and his Dublin born trainer and cousin 'Mantequilla' Maree! ;)

Yeah I know, but the bar is important. I always put myself in the place of my mates that I try and sell boxing to, must of them are casual fans and have flown over here for some Hatton fights, the Haye fight and would go to Dunne at the O2 etc but I remember one Dunne fight in the Stadium and there was no bar - so they left and went up the road to the pub and got me to call them before the ring walks of the main event. I think it would be a hard sell to get them back again. Unless you cater to the average non boxing fan then you will struggle to fill halls and get repeat business. Some atmosphere in that Colne place - I'd go back.

You're right, it does make a difference at any sporting event but especially boxing. It's a night out for a lot of people and in the current economic situation, promoters should be providing all the props to encourage people through the door.

O'Brien O'Bliges

23 May 2010 - By Leonard Gunning

On the hottest day of the year Chris O’Brien improved his slate to 7-0-2 (KO 1) and turned up the temperature on his march towards an Irish title as he pushed past Ben Lawler in a tough six round contest at the beautiful Municipal Hall, Colne in east Lancashire.

The welterweight was originally to face Brummie novice Keith Sheen in an eight round bout which would have seen ‘The Sheriff’ qualify for a shot at the Irish title, however, Sheen pulled out in the lead up to the fight citing an injury to his bicep.

In stepped the tough and busy Ben Lawler 6-3 (KO 2) to fill the breach. Lawler, who just lost to Dean Harrison, a former foe of Derry’s Paul McCloskey, was keen to take the fight but the bout was now scheduled for six-threes instead of the original eight, so O'Brien will have to wait until a later date to qualify for a pop at the Irish title.

The V.I.P. Promotions show was staged in one of the best venues for boxing that I have had the pleasure of visiting. The small but perfectly formed hall provides an ornate balcony which wraps around the three walls and there is hardly a bad seat in the house, the full bar facility also ensured that the locals were kept in good spirits – promoters take note! Despite being aesthetically pleasing, the heat in the hall soared on the balmy evening and the lights added to the sauna like humidity.

Bounding to the ring in the colours of the newly relegated Burnley FC adorned with shamrock, O’Brien looked fresh and eager as the final bars of Johnny Cash’s ‘Ring of Fire’ played out, pretty apt considering the sweltering day.

"my trainer told me" - yeah right Ali!!!

Well my trainer told me that Ali Shah is a piece of shít. Well my trainer told me that Ali Shah told Chris to stop going so hard in sparring and then took a liberty with O'Brien when he eased off. My trainer told me that Ali Shah wasnt so smart with Kenny Anderson the next day. My trainer told me that Ali Shah ran from the gym in Gisburn. My trainer told me that Ali Shah was crying and his mates wouldnt back him up and my trainer told me that Ali Shah hasnt been seen in the gym since!

Just called my trainer there and he told me that Ali Shah has has seven wins on the bounce but in two years hasnt fought a single fighter with a positive record and they had a combined record of 49-390-18 - ambitious fúcker this Chavvy Blackburn twát aint he! :TU:

I am not Chris' manager so you are better talking to them if Shahtit wants to fight him. 5 fights with a total number of losses totalling almost 400 - impressive. Gimme a laugh and tell me who Shahtit is fighting in Grimsby next month?

With great ability, comes great humility!

Poor show if this Ali, having met him on Thursday I very much doubt it is if i'm honest!

Seemed a nice lad and not the type to post this kind of thing on a public forum

Haughian working on strength and conditioning

28 May 2010 - By Cormac Campbell

Irish welterweight champion Stephen Haughian is leaving no stone unturned as he prepares for his Celtic welterweight title clash with Scotland’s Kevin McIntyre on June 11 at Belfast's Kings Hall.

The bout serves as chief support for Paul McCloskey's European title defence against awkward Italian Guiseppe Lauri and features a host of the best and brightest of Ireland's boxing prospects - including Jamie Conlan, Carl Frampton and Andy Murray.

Indeed, Lurgan native Haughian has acquired the services of strength and conditioning guru Mike McGurn – who famously prepared Bernard Dunne for his WBA title victory over Ricardo Cordoba – to improve his stamina. Speaking to irish-boxing.com Haughian said he is already feeling the benefits.

Hi fightnight.
You must have met me i am in the Kokoro gym alot. We have a very good relationship with Jason and his lads and regularly spa.

The quote reguarding Chris and ali is factually incorrect. I brought Ali into my gym for a move around, it was never set for a an 8 rounder as it was a week before Chris's fight so they were always only doing 4. The spa was competative and im sure they will be doing many rounds in the future. Both lads really got on well. Alis a good lad.

I think the problem with this thred is what happens in gyms stays in gyms. Its never a good idea to discuss what may or may not have happened without knowing all the facts.

Gives a shout next time you see me in the Kokoro, or pop upto mine next time Jason and the boys are up
