Johnny Mathieson

Again there were at least two one born in 1919 and one who fought in 1910

So that's where the confusion may lie

Born 14th Feb 1919, Middleweight, I also have born in Elgin, but may have just mixed the two up myself, I haven't got his record on my site as yet, so will have to plough through my paper records

Bob Scanlon??

Surely that cant be right, Bob Scanlon was a Heavyweight in that month his records will show Scanlon went 15 rounds with Tom Cowler a 220lb Knock out artist, 20 rounds with Bandsman Rice then 20 rounds with a FEATHERWEIGHT.

I'm very confussed ??????????????

I would say that Scanlon was more a Light-Heavyweight.

Matheson fought Bandsman Rice himself.

Everything I have points to Matheson being a Middleweight. That is the Matheson from Elgin who was managed by Broadribb and fought Harry Lewis as referred to further up.

Stuart, why do you think that Matheson was a Featherweight? Is it because Boxrec list him as a Feather?

No that was my mistake i corrected his record earlier and added Feather.

The confussion is with Bob Scanlon. The Bob Scanlon Light Heavy i do have a clipping of fighting Bandsman Rice but this guy must have been busy in early 1912 if he fought Matherson in London Feb 12th after fighting Blink McCloskey Feb 9th in Paris.

There is another Scanlon in boxrec lightweight could it have been him?

I think both those fights involving Scanlon were the Light-Heavy.

By today's standards it appears unusual to have those fights in close proximity but not back then.

If Kevin Smith still visits here, I'm sure he could clear it up.
