I think Smith makes a good point. Not having a pop at Magee but maybe he is not being advised too well.

Was just about to post this story then.

Sad news for Smigga but there's plenty more opportunities out there for him

Your guess is as good as mine. It's a great match (sounds funny saying that about a guy who's only had 9 fights but fair play to him he's flown through). I think a couple of Commonwealth defences may serve Groves better in the long run. He will no doubt meet Smith and Magee sooner or later but weighing up task of challenging for a British or European Title, I think he would be better served it was later (but not much later).

Promotional issues will always get in the way of George fighting a Wazza fighter.
Unless a title fight that goes to purse bids.

What was Magees reason for his 11th hr withdrawel?

He requested the purse bids got put back a month and has had over two months to consider it. He then pulls out just before bids are opened.

Promoters can't be blamed for this fight falling through. Magee has deprived the fans of a good fight for two titles after constantly whinging that he was overdue a chance after vacating (for a lumpy 'drink' I might add) to help Hayemakers show over a year ago.

Shame, but at least now he might stop moaning.

The timing of the withdrawal is very poor.
Could it be a simple case of cash ?
Maybe he's been offered more to defend the Euro strap, than was on offer for this fight.
Whatever the reason, the timing is poor.

Who has written this story?

Oh, hang on...Richard Maynard. Never seen his byline before.

Is it the same Richard Maynard who is employed by Warren as a press officer?

If you check his other articles on there they all read like SN press releases and the boxers he writes about are always SN fighters.

I think it is safe to say it is effectively a SN press release.

26 - you profess to know the game but really you have no idea. How can it be about cash if he did not wait and see what the purse offer was. He may have been surprised. His european title would have been on the line too and, as a result the EBU and BBBofC agreed to a 50/50 split. If the purse offer was not to his liking he could have withdrawn after and not lost his EBU title as Smith was not the mandatory challenger. It was all loaded in Magrees favour despite it being a manadatory for Smith.

Once again your little knowledge shows.

You wouldn't see him at shows cos you never buy a ticket and got slung out the last one if I recall.

How reliable is a 'news' story written by an employee of one of the parties involved?

How unbiased is your opinion seeing as you are yet another employee of the company (if that still is the case)?

'Frankly speaking', I'm surprised any of you come on here seeing as you hate the place so much.

Then again, that's what the BoxRec forum is about - freedom of speech. Long may it continue.

Might this open the door for Dilks then? Another all-Liverpool clash at the Echo, winner could fight Groves in a British/Commonwealth unification on the undercard of Haye's Oct bout......

Never said once that I am a font of boxing knowledge BC.
As for free entry as you put it, that is a rare event for me.
I pay my way.
Anyway on the Magee situation wasn't it YOU who said you'd be in negotiations with him for weeks - are you suggesting money was never discussed during those negotiations ?
A deal can always be done pre purse bids, no ?
Get off your high horse.
You work in boxing you should be the font of all knowledge.
