Question Marks over Hayes "legacy" ????????????

Post by FLINT ISLAND »

Haye has said its not about the money but the legacy.

So lets take a closer look at his so far questionable legacy....................

Audely Harrison.................... ............hardly legacy enchancing next fight lined up

John Ruiz - beat him unimpressively - Ruiz then accepted he was past it and retired - THE END.

Nicola Valuev - ran all night like a sprinter - stole a decsion from him - Valuev accepted it was over - and decided to retire and run a hot dog stand with his wife - maybe tempted to come out of retirement for a rematch with Haye. ....Please dont Valuev your rubbish Champion :shame:

Monte Barret - Haye hurt but power got him the KO - Barrett since has been reduced to just a journeyman plying his trade.

Enzo Maccarenelli - beat a unproven at World level WBO Champion - who then got KO'd twice soon after - did bounce back in a farce of a fight beating up a tomatoe can for the EBU title - but still proven nothing of note on World level since to enchance Hayes legacy.

Jean Marc Mormeck - Haye KO'd him - he then just retired - and came back recently for a couple of wins - but hardly set the world on fire.

Two weight world champion after 25 fights. Held 3 different alphabets at 200lb + The Ring title and then moved up to claim an alphabet title at heavyweight. Not sure whose resumes you have been looking at for your comparison point but I can't imagine too many fighters with a more impressive ledger after 25 fights.....

To achieve that he had 3 wins

W TKO 7 Jean Marc Mormeck

W TKO 2 Enzo Maccareneilli

W SPLIT 12 Nicola Valuev

I'm not doubting his titles / C.V - achievements on paper

Just questioning how good were them wins ?

talka boutlegacy after he's retired. you're enjoying this too much, FLINT. adam booth recently said that audley wouldn't last 4 rounds with any of the heavyweight champs, and that haye would be regarded as a coward if he doesn't fight wlad or vitali. wlad seems to be out, so maybe we'll get the big fight that appeals to brits, europeans and stateside audiences - haye vs vitali.

maybe we'll get the 2 best heavyweight fights by the end of this year, wlad-povetkin and vitali-haye. these are genuine fights

Calm down ladies..............

All I was doing was questioning how much do you rate Hayes wins.

Yes - he was the NO 1 Crusierweight.

Yes - he has won a portion of the World Heavyweight title.

Basically does the manner he beat Mormeck and Enzo and Valuev and Ruiz- give him a chance of toppling the Klitschko brothers.

Or do you feel - he has not shown enough to convince you. :geek2:

I agree this is getting ridicolous @ J

But I do think Haye's wins for the belts are not great wins. Mormeck was a good win no doubt. Enzo had beaten noone of any real note (decent braitwaite win aside) before or after they had fought, Valuev has unoffcially lost a bunch of times, including to a 'mature' Holyfield

I mantain that his HW record to date is W*rrenesque in its cynicism and risk/reward ratio

If he fights a Klit next then everything I'v e said is void, if he fights Harrison....

Good post lefthook

Thats what I was getting at.

Its no problem - I realise that I have done Haye too many threads - and I will stop making them.

But I just honestly do question the quality of his legacy.

Mormeck and Maccarinelli and Valuev................OK - but nothing special.

I agree - that Moreck was probaly the best win - the way he burst onto the scene in Paris and ripped the WBC / WBA titles from the French man.

What lets down that win legacy wise - is Mormeck has not done much since.

Haye has beaten 1 very good fighter, past his prime, in Mormeck. He has beaten 1 decent HW in Valuev, very unconvincingly. He has beaten a shot, once decent fighter in John Ruiz, and a journeyman in Monte Barrett.

Not exactly hall of fame stuff.

There is a good reason why Haye has only had 25 fights in nearly 8 years as a pro and some of you might not like it so I won't go into it. He likes to compare himself to Holyfield and has said he is better than him. Well Holyfield was undisputed HW Champion in less than 6 years in pro boxing, while Haye's best win at CW is past his prime and past mid 30's Mormeck and at HW a past his best and past mid 30's Valuev. It's been over 3 years since Haye's first HW bout and we are still waiting. Come on man, come out from under your bed and shut up these Ukranians!

Another Haye thread from you? Seriously!

He went away from home to beat the top dog at the time (Mormeck), further unified the titles by making your boy Enzo do the chicken dance in what was described as a 50/50 battle and then beat a giant (Valuev) away from home. Give him some credit. Yes, I believe that he has to beat both Klitschko's to solidify his legacy but so far so good.

Its not like Haye himself is overstating his claims, he's disarmingly modest when it comes to his achievements. He's often stated that his hero is Lennox Lewis, and he recognises that he will never match Lewis' achievements in the time he has left.

I don't think Haye will probably go down as a hall of famer, aside from everything else, the heavyweight division is far too weak right now.

Vitali may well retire undefeated as champion in 18 months time, and It's questionable whether he will make it despite a ledger which whilst not packed with names, does include wins over just about every prominent name of his era - except of course for his own brother.

if haye beats vitali klitschko, even an old vitali, then haye could go on to become a hall of famer.

i think this fight happens, especially with vitali being in slight decline. if haye loses, he'll still make an absolute killing with the sky box office money and the money from american television; he'll be hugely successful if you count the money and all the different belts he's won, and this is what most fighters aspire to.

a competitive loss to vitali, if haye lands a few great shots, has some good moments, could certainly get haye on the pound for pound lists.

A loss can never get you on a lb for lb list

Edit: For a second I forgot what sport I was talking about. I'll rephrase..

A loss of any description should never get you on a lb for lb list
