Re: James "Lights Out" Toney V Randy "The Natural" Coture
Anyway
I'm not a fan of MMA - never got into it.
However as Randy Couture said - this is a big crossover fight because its gonna draw alot of boxing fans worldwide to the MMA to see this contest.
And I cannot miss this - this is gonna be very interesting - I just hope James wins or dosent disgrace himself.
It be great if Toney could KO Couture.
But in fairness - Couture comes across as a good guy - I feel he comes across well.
Whatever the outcome - I would like to see James come back into boxing and fight Haye or Klitshckos before he gets just too old for it anymore...................

I don't believe that Toney has any intention of going through with this fight. I think he's going to carry on talking trash, get his name out there again and pull out at the last minute.
Mayorga did the same thing last month with Shine Fights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qn33zm4 ... re=related
If the fight actually happens, it won't be a contest. Toney will be pushed against the cage by a 47 year old wrestler who will hold him there to tire him out before taking him down and controlling him on the canvas while punching him in the face until the ref stops it.

That's about the size of it. Toney either has no idea what he's gotten himself into, or he had no intention of going through with it in the first place.Flashing Blade wrote:If the fight actually happens, it won't be a contest. I'm sure that Mayorga knew his deal with Don King meant he could not fight. King waited until the last minute before going to court and exerting his rights- ensuring maximum publicity. Technically, Mayorga did not pull out, but I think he knew from the start that there was no chance of the fight actually happening.

It is Rooneys Dad - who was a proper full - amateur boxer and I think also trains boys at a gym in croxeth Liverpool.
Rooney also was good mates with Ricky Hatton and was at one of his training camps at ringside watching him on the pads out in one of Hattons American fights.
Rooney is also mates with Iron Mike Tyson ...............
Wayne boxed a few fights for Croxteth ABC under his uncle Richie Rooney who was a good boxer in his day, Wayne likes the boxing and attends shows when he can.. He's also friends with Paul Smith and a few other boxers..
I was told he packs a punch too..

No King fighter ever knows what's in their contract.Flashing Blade wrote:Poncey wrote:Mayorga didn't pull out of it.

Couture may be old, but is good.
I can see this going two ways:
1. Toney realises he's in for a humiliating defeat and pulls out (especially if he tries some wrestling/BBJ in the gym and sees how easy it will be for him to be dominated.)
2. They fight and Couture will take a blubbery Toney down in within 30 seconds, driving low to avoid any head punches, dominates a tiring Toney on the ground, and submits him in under 2 minutes.

i'll be intrested too see if toney has trained at sprawling, randys quite old but them guy's shoot for the legs fast :!:
also leg kicks aint nice :!: a boxer really needs to be on his toes in the octagon.
i also have a feeling toney aint taking this seriously, he's just expecting to score a ko,

To be fair the guy that Toney is fighting seems a decent enough bloke and came across quite well in that youtube interview.....However i hope Toney knocks seven shades out of him.
If it gets to a wrestling, mauling type encounter then it obviously favours the MMA guy(though i am sure that Toney would prove much more adept than folk think) But to get at Toney and use the MMA holds etc, will be no easy task. Toney is way past his best as a boxer, but he'll still be pretty pin point with his punches especially with the smaller gloves and against an opponent who is not used to the type of punching expertise world class boxers posess.
I think and hope we'll see Toney tear this guy up as he tries to advance and use his wrestling, choke holds. Toney needs to draw the line in the sand and dare this opponent to cross it, then make him pay when he tries to advance.

Toney has been noticeably invisible from Ibarra's scheduled training sessions. He's been abusive to those in the gym when he's there. Ibarra also turns fighters into having a heavy lead leg (see Rampage as a prime example) that doesn't check kicks very well.hurlock wrote:i'll be intrested too see if toney has trained at sprawling, randys quite old but them guy's shoot for the legs fast :!:

I may put money on Couture using his noggin' and kicking his leg into the 5th row. I hope I'm wrong.

Re: James "Lights Out" Toney V Randy "The Natural" Coture
A few former heavyweight 'champs' have dabbled in MMA to mixed degrees of success. Botha being the most legit (IBF), Briggs (WBU) has had a pop, but Mercer (WBO) has had the biggest win, banging out former UFC champ Tim Silvia when aged 48. But Mercer was also taken out by Kimbo Slice, who has been a relative failure in MMA. Mercer is probably the best example of what can happen to a boxer in an MMA fight — he lands first, he's likely to win, but if he gets taken down he's in trouble. Toney, I think, is in trouble as Couture is a mauler and a wrestler and has enough experience to know that he needs to get Toney on the deck ASAP.
Sick but intriguing. A bit of fun, for sure. Toney's a legend.

Toneys making a mistake here.... this is Mixed Martial Arts... though Toney has been an excellent boxer... heres he is going to be a one trick pony.
Courtote knows how to box, wrestle, kick and submit... and though he is older than Toney.... he is still seen as one of the best

I fear that Toney could be stopped pretty early here.It won't take long for randy courture to dive at his legs and take him down, and then its fight over.

Well whichever way it goes these fights dont last that long anyway.big lennox wrote:I fear that Toney could be stopped pretty early here.It won't take long for randy courture to dive at his legs and take him down, and then its fight over.
I knew a boxer - I use to train with - and he went into cage fighting and won in the 1st minute with a KO punch.
But in the rematch he lost in the 1st minute - choked out.

How astronomic would it be if Toney submits Couture on the ground?
But I doubt that...

This is a load of old bullshit if you ask me.
Yes it will promote the sport but for f__ks sake.
