Froch vs Abraham predictions

Post by markp »

Well it's early days, but I think we can safely say that this fight is happening next for both guys. Both will believe that they can win the fight and it promises to be a cracker.

As for who will win the fight, I believe there is only one winner.

Abraham starts slow in his fights and looks a bit lazy to me. He spends the first 3 rounds feeling out his opponent and trying to take their best punches on his arms so he can guage their power and how they fight. He's a highly intelligent boxer in my opinion. What he lacks in finese, he makes up in pure power and is one of the best pure punchers in the game today.

Froch has proven himself time and time again. He is a tough customer. He has that porous defence, but it has gotten him far. He knows what he has in reserve and knows that he can dig deep to get through fights. There are few tougher men on the planet. However, he has been dropped vs Taylor, where he looked hurt. He was hurt against Dirrell and wobbled. He looked hurt against Kessler after taking a big right. These are warning signs.

I think Abraham will overpower Froch in this fight and will go on to win the fight either by late stoppage or by decision. The way Froch fights, he is bound to get hit flush at some point. There will be a look of shock on his face when he takes a flush punch from Abraham. Abraham seems too tough to me to be KO'd so I don't think Froch can do that to him. I think if it develops into a shootout, it's Abrahams fight. And I don't see how it can't develop into a shoot out. Also, given the styles, with Abraham coming forward and Froch going backwards, the judges will be giving Abraham most of the rounds.

Froch would surprise me if he pulled this off, but I can only see one winner here.

I wonder who will be the favourite, considering Dirrell beat Abraham and Froch beat Dirrell... bookies do go on formlines..

Styles can make fights and Froch has a style that plays right into Abraham's strengths and fails to test his limitations. Dirrell had all the attributes to beat Abraham. He possesses speed, boxing ability, reflexes, and defensive skills in abundance. Fighters who are more naturally gifted than Dirrell come along once in a blue moon. Froch, on the other hand, is a limited slugger who lacks hand/foot speed, technique, and boxing ability. The attributes he relies on to win fights are his stamina and physical strength, and his chin has allowed him to get by with a lot of mistakes. Utilizing the aforementioned qualities in an attempt to overwhelm Abraham won't bode well for Froch, in my opinion.

Given his style, Froch will certainly end up taking many clean power shots from Abraham, something which a fighter simply can't afford to experience. On the contrary, Abraham has a very good guard and will block most of the punches Froch throws back. Froch could do things to give himself a better chance of winning, like keeping his hands up, utilizing lateral movement, and consistently pumping the jab to offset AA and take advantage of the size gap between the two, but he has never done any of these things for more then a little while, so I'm not going to bank on him doing them now.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Froch steal the first three rounds from the notoriously slow starting Armenian, however, over the duration of the bout I don't see him putting enough rounds in the bag to win the fight. I think a toe-to-toe slug out will likely occur and Abraham will get the better of it. While Froch does have a very good chin, he has been hurt on multiple occasions and I don't think he can keep taking flush shots from Abraham. In my view, the outcome will either be a late stoppage victory for AA or a clear points win with a knockdown thrown in for good measure.

Abraham WTKO 7 - he's going to hit Carl cleanly and often, and Carl will be stopped on his feet taking a shellacking.

Abraham may not be quick of flashy, but he's effective at what he does, and has a good defence. Something Carl definitely lacks. If Carl was faster he may be able to punish Abraham, but those wide shots of Carl's are going to invite the straight punishing shots between the guard, and I see Abraham getting him out of there.

You'd have to fancy AA, just due to how hard he hits when he lands properly, along with how low Froch has his hands.

Dirrell showed the blueprint on how to beat AA (before the DQ stuff), but I'm not sure if Froch could pull a Dirrell-like performance off.

Although, I can't think of anybody who King Arthur has fought that punches as heavy as Froch. So, if Froch can put in some good work in the earlier rounds, there's a chance he could grind AA down somewhat, and take some of the sting out of him.

Its a good match-up :TU:

I seem to change my mind whenever I try to think of a winner..

Froch seems to be capable of out boxing Arthur .. simply because Arthur is so lazy for 3/4 of a fight :witzend:

Arthur seems heavilly favoured to KO Froch .. simply because Froch is guaranteed to absorb heavy punches whoever he fights. And Arthur is a genuine world class KO-puncher. Where as Froch`s chin has been less than granite with all the guys he has fought at world class :(

Much will depend on where the fight takes place.
Both guys at home will rely on the judges to compensate for what they actually do in the ring ... Arthur is the only one who is dead cert to be able to knock the other cold..

So for these reasons..

I think Arthur will get home (or close to) advantage .. has the scarier power and tighter defence.
So Arthur wins on late stoppage when Froch tries to get the last few rounds in the bag to make sure...

AA inside the distance.I believe Froch is made for him.Like Hatton towards the end,Froch just isnt going to change now and he is going to absorb some heavy shots in there.

It all comes down to Frochs chin. I mean, he took bombs from Pascal all night. The punches that have hurt him have been punches he didn't see from Dirrell, Taylor and Kessler. We haven't seen anyone go toe to toe with Abraham and how would he respond to being bullied in the ring by a bigger man?

It's a long shot though. The styles really favour Abraham to come out victorious. I think he's kind of underrated as a boxer too. He's not just a slugger.

Im gutted to say this cos I admire Carl Froch I really do and I really hope Im wrong BUT I see Carl getting stopped and taking a lot of punishment.. AA will cover up and take a fair few himself but in the end he'll wear Carl down and it'll be over quite dramatically...

Froch KO's AA in 7. DO NOT underestimate Froch in this, I think it will look like a MW Vs a big SM.
Froch will fight a very differant fight in this one.

I think that if Froch isn't lazy he can beat AA.

Eastman troubled AA and I believe that Froch can do the same, or maybe it's just wishful thinking...

It will be one hell of a fight, but like some others have said Froch's style plays straight into AA's hands. There is no point comparing how they both did against Dirrell to guess the outcome of this fight as that's not how it works. AA is a very hard puncher, with an excellent chin who can cover up pretty well and Froch is a good puncher, with a very good chin who often leaves himself open to big shots. Unfortunately, I feel Froch will get hit just too often with power shots. His good punch resistance will just cave in to make it a late-ish stoppage win for Abraham. Abraham TKO10. The best fight of the tourney and the first fight in the super 6 that will be worth paying for though.

I think Froch is all about confidence. And Kessler just ripped that to bits, regardless of The Cobra's spurious 'robbery' claims. The over-rated Abraham to win on points. Disputed by none but Carl.

Frochs going to really struggle to land anything of note. Abrahams tight, high guard will cause him all number of problems, throw into the mix Abrahams iron chin and Frochs in a world of sh*t.

Now you have to factor in Frochs wide open defence, that he will certainly get over-involved, the fact that Abraham is a monster puncher who lands with accuracy and its difficult to make a case for Froch at all.

His only chance is to try and win enough rounds to get a points decision. He probably realises that to some extent and is part of the reason why he will not accept the fight anywhere east of Nottingham! Abraham is a lazy bugger at the best of times though so its not totally out of the question for Froch to win on points, but he'd have to box with far more discipline than he has ever done before. Thats doubtfull, but not totally out of the question!

My prediction: Abraham KO mid to late rounds!

Two men put their whole boxing careers on the line when Britain's Carl Froch squares off with Germany's Arthur Abraham in a fascinating 12-rounder in Montreal on September 18.
Froch, 32, comes off a disappointing loss to Mikkel Kessler in Denmark in April, which cost him his unbeaten record and his WBC super-middleweight belt. It was a rare overseas assignment for the Nottingham strongman and he was guilty of complacency as he just didn't do enough away from home. A badly cut Kessler, roared on by huge home support, plugged away and took a unanimous decision.
Froch needs to address such a flaw – and a leaky defence - against the dangerous Abraham, who comes off a disappointing defeat himself when he was floored and outboxed and slung out in the 11th round against American slickster Andre Dirrell in Detroit in March, after thumping Dirrell on the canvas. It was an obvious show of frustration from Abraham, 30, who was a mile behind on points and lashed out after Dirrell had slipped. Like Froch, the defeat cost Abraham his unbeaten record.
The scene is set for a slugging match between rugged, aggressive, heavy handed rivals with something to prove. Froch holds a close points win over Dirrell so he probably has the edge going in, but an awful lot of kayoes dot the record of Abraham who will not have to go looking for Froch as he did Dirrell, although our man has a great chin.
Abraham once famously kept on punching with a broken jaw but the Dirrell affair did raise a question mark over his temperament and his display was worse than the Kessler one given by Froch, if that makes a difference. Both men, in a sense, blew it. The desperation to put that behind them will push them harder than ever before as they swap punch for punch from start to finish.
Froch, for me, lands the cleaner shots to edge the verdict.

Just out of interest where are all the dickheads who were giving it the 'ohhhhhhh Froch has nothing now, he doesnt have a title this fight will have to take place in Germany wahhh wahhhh he has such a bad promoter theres no way this fight will take place on anyone but Sauerlands terms wahhhhh wahhhhhh.'

Basically all you mugs who said that have been proved wrong. With everything seemingly against him Froch's team have negotiated the fight for Canada, a completely neutral venue. Not Germany, not Switzerland where Sauerland put the Valuev v Holyfield fight on that had that unusual verdict, but Canada.

Whether Carl is gonna win or not is irrelevant, people on here over-reacted a lot after the Kessler loss. 1 defeat in an exciting fight doesn't suddenly make you a nobody with zero clout.

Yeah. If Froch thought a flush punch from taylor was bad, he won't know what hit him when abraham connects flush. and i did say WHEN Abraham connects flush, not IF.

Kessler was seen taking the piss out of Froch's uppercut in the Fight Camp 360 Show: " Froch's uppercut was so schlooow..."

But I feel Froch can win the fight with jab. But Abraham will be dangerous all the while. Tough fight to call, but Froch seemed to lack the ability to go up a gear in the Kessler fight. Kessler seemed there for the taking but Froch couldn't pull the trigger. If he was just a bit busier in a lot of the round he would have won that fight. I also heard him saying in the corner in the later rounds that he felt tired in the later rounds - he can't afford to get tired in the later rounds against Abraham. I lean ever so slightly towards the Armenian but I'll be routing for Froch all the way.

Froch did'nmt go up a gear because he could'nt.He can't blame a delayed flight to Denmark -it only take an hour and 10 mins to get there. It was Kessler's body shots that did the damage. They were hard and well placed and they slowed Froch up.As simple as that.
