Floyd Patterson vs Pinklon Thomas

Post by gambler49 »

Hard call.... The Thomas that fought Tyson loses by either UD or late KO. But a prime Thomas takes him out between 3 n 9. But if u sed Floyd win I couldnt argue.

This is a hard one. Spinks has a better jab than Machen, Ellis
but Patterson did well against talented boxer Machen and
beat..just (in my opinion) Jimmy.
I think Thomas struggles against compact, fast power hitters,
Holy, Tyson for example. Pinky's jab does cause Patterson
trouble, but I do not think it ends the fight there and then.
Tough one to call.

Patterson by close dec or a draw. I want a rematch !

Bear in mind wen Thomas fought Holy he was shot 2 fk! But I agree Patterson gives him some trouble. But im sure Pinky takes him out at some point. I think the chin would be the telling factor in this contest. They would both be landing on eachover.
I'd also say that a prime Thomas would have a chance of beating Tyson. Well beter then any1 else he fought in his prime. However I still think he woulda got beat. But against Floyd I think he takes him out.

Pinky was shot Berbick and afterwards. But it still gives a slight
indication of how they fare.

Patterson was in theory past it post Liston. But clean living and
strength of character kept him relevant until '72.

Unfortunately for Thomas the trappings of the seductive party life
burnt away at him while he could have been a better fighter.

It would be an interesting fight. I like to watch both men. I still
think Patterson is able to edge the win.

Over the years Thomas has become overrated, he was never as good as some people now seems to think. A one-armed fighter with a good chin he was. Apart from the beard Patterson trumps him in all departments. Patterson by comfortable ud.

Patterson had no business fighting heavyweight, except in a weak era of heavys he got away with it. I think he won the olympics as a middle weight. He was exposed to be average when he fought Liston and Ali. He would have been much better off as a light heavy.

Tell me about how great Patterson was. Tell me he was not an olympic middleweight champ. Tell me about the tough competition he had prior to Ali and Liston.

Patterson was quick with great boxing skills, but was not strong enough or could not take a punch well enough to compete with the best in the early 60's on. That is obvious. He was not even close to beating either one.

But we are not talking about beating Liston or Ali are we? The question was could he beat Pinklon Thomas and in my opinion he could, despite winning the olympic gold medal at middleweight, whatever that has to do with anything.
