Not myself. Patterson decapitates him in the ninth round, having lead most of the fight.
Re: Floyd Patterson vs Mike Spinks @HW
Gambler I think Patterson would take this one by decision.
Re: Floyd Patterson vs Mike Spinks @HW
Patterson is my 2nd fave HW after ... well you know who.
I think this is a hard one for him. Its a dangerous one of him,
I dont see him stopping Spinks. But I do see it being a close
fight.
Patterson is at danger of losing a decision if he does not have
the right judges, simply because he will no doubt fight this
one in spurts as he often did. And against a guy like Spinks with
his awkwardness but good power and skills, Patterson will be
lunging a lot and trying to burst his blows in eruptive flurries.
I can see Spinks getting Floyd of balance at times, but I can
also see Patterson blasting decent combos into Michael.
I see a good series between these two guys.
Ill favour my fave lad and pick Floyd, but it would not be
clear cut.
The dream fight would have been Spinks of 1985-86 versus Holyfield
of 89-91.

Having thought about it I'm going for Patterson I think he wins 6/7 outa 10. I think they would all be gr8 fights wiv a few late stage KOs going both ways.
Re: Floyd Patterson vs Mike Spinks @HW
Not a decapitation, but Floyd would definitely be in control of the chain saw.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Not myself. Patterson decapitates him in the ninth round, having lead most of the fight.
9 rounds is about right. Hand speed, hand speed, hand speed.

Patterson by dominant decision. Rob man you over-rate Spinks greatly as a heavyweight. His lone claims to fame above 175 were beating a completly lethargic Holmes (and getting a gift in their rematch) and beating up on an inactive alcoholic Cooney, and in neither bout did I think Spinks look particularly impressive in.

I don't see Spinks, at Heavy, as significantly better --- if at all --- than a prime Ellis, who an aged & well past-it Patterson should have been awarded a decision against.Robinson wrote:Patterson is my 2nd fave HW after ... well you know who.

Floyd is my #2 favorite heavy of all-time, too.
I loved his style. Watching him go against someone who could not overwhelm him, like Cooper, was great. On his toes, peek a boo defense, probing for an opening, then that lightning fast attack, he LOOKED like a fighter.

Very, very close fight... But I'd go with Patterson.
