Minter vs Eubank? @MW

Post by gambler49 »

12 rounds
This fight is going to points im sure. They both had iron chins, and the fact that Eubank never fru a massive volume of punches over 12 rounds I don't see Minter getting cut up in this fight (tho its possible).
Im going Minter on a very close SD.

great thread gambler.

A fascinating fight this one.

Especially if it was over 15.

Minter was a classical stand up style european fighter but he had a good dig in his hands and could move quite efficiently

Eubanks had terrific physical strength and will. Decent power and a unorthodox style.

On the assumption it is the 1991-1994 Eubanks and the not the burnt out bored fighter of later vintage, I think Alan will control the early rounds with his jab but by round 5-6 Eubanks will have succeeding in making it a war of attrition with his sharp counters and slugging. It will right down to the wire and Minter will win a razor tight decision over 15.

Minter was very prone to cuts, my prediction is Eubank by TKO.

Somebody already beat me too it, but Minter had paper skin that was easily torn, so there is nothing sure about this going the distance. I also wouldn't call Minter's chin "iron." It could certainly be dented. However, Eubanks wasn't exactly a big puncher. I always thought a lot of Minter as a boxer, and if he could have avoided bleeding to death, I would go with him by UD in the range of 116-112, 115-113 over 12.

Alan Minter's reign as a world champion is one of my earliest sporting memories. I had been sent with my brother to live in the north of england with an aunt and her 2 young kids.We were all 4-8 years old. We used to eat a cereal called weetabix and they were running a british sports heroes card collection . All 4 of us would fight to be the one to open a new cereal box. I got lucky and the card I was rewarded with was one of Alan Minter Middleweight champion of the world.
Minter really tried to take Hagler on. It was a measure of Hagler's versatility and warrior mentality that he went into such a hostile environment and calmly cut Minters face to shreds and ribbons!

Minter by a clear decision if he doesn't cut, but he could be cut by anyone.

I agree he cut very easy. But cos Eubank was'nt a volume puncher, and Eubank is a counter puncher I think Minter will be good for 12 rounds.
