Re: jason booth fighting molitor for ibf title on july 23rd
Agree with the pick but having watched the second Ndlovu fight I don't think that Molitor is the fighter he once was, the Caballero defeat quite rightly has made him more circumspect and he seemed to me to be waiting on his shots a lot more than he used to. It always appeared very natural with him before but now it just is not the same.stujones wrote:I think this is a step to far for Booth. He's done well in his return, but being harshfully truthful most of his opponents since he won the British title haven't been of the highest standard domestically. His hardest defence was against Matthew Marsh - and Marsh ran him so so close. Hunter clearly didn't have the ticker anymore - and really, Rocky Dean, Mark Moran, Sean Hughes etc - good opponents, but a step behind winning the Lonesdale Belt.
If Marsh can run him close, well Molitor is 3 levels above him.
I remember the Molitor vs Nicky Booth fight - I actually thought it was Jason when I heard this fight was made. Jason is better than Nicky, but Molitor was a class above.
Could be intriguing for a few rounds, but Molitor on points is my pick.
Not sure Jason can capitalise on it but this could be tighter than it looks on paper. Johnson in the corner again is a plus for Molitor and perhaps with his title back he may regain a lot of confidence but this is it for Booth and we have to expect to see the best Booth in recent fights and I give him a chance in this one and I would not have said that before the viewing the recent showing of Molitor.
Interesting point that may factor in, Molitor picked up a bugger of a cut in the last knockings of that fight and it looked one of those that could reopen, if Boothy gets something to aim at, you just know he is going to land on it plenty, just maybe he can disrupt the "canadian kid" early and make this close.

Re: jason booth fighting molitor for ibf title on july 23rd
Booth has been in good form no doubt, but I think his "2nd coming" has been overated a tad based on the opponents he had fought since his return. He didn't look great last time, against his most live and best opponent since he won the commonwealth title.
I don't dispute he is boxing in a style that suits his attributes these days. However, his opponents since his return would have been outclassed at EBU level, with the exception of Marsh who ran him very very close.
I think people are forgetting that fight somewhat.
He's definately a better fighter now than ever, but don't think he will have the speed to beat Molitor - love to be proven wrong though.

don't often disagree with you bennie, but i thought Molitor's S/D over Ndlovu was a sign he has slipped, compared with the one-sided beatdown he gave the guy first time round. he's basically gunshy, never had that much confidence in his chin IMo and its really showing now.bennie wrote:He came back to win the IBF title a second time with a fine 12-round decision over South African dangerman Takalani Ndlovu last time out in March.
Molitor's form is every bit as good as Booth's, and at a higher level, but Booth has never been stopped and on home soil and on such a good run, does have a shout.
i think the guy above had it right, i think a banger/brawler is waht's needed to put Mollitor off his boxing rythmn and i am not sure if Booth has a good style for him.
Re: jason booth fighting molitor for ibf title on july 23rd
It was a UD win CP but it was maybe a bit closer than two of the scorecards suggested. He is still a level or two above Booth imo. Someone like Poonsawat or Nishioka would be hell for Molitor. Even Munroe would cause him trouble.Counter-puncher wrote:don't often disagree with you bennie, but i thought Molitor's S/D over Ndlovu was a sign he has slipped, compared with the one-sided beatdown he gave the guy first time round. he's basically gunshy, never had that much confidence in his chin IMo and its really showing now.bennie wrote:He came back to win the IBF title a second time with a fine 12-round decision over South African dangerman Takalani Ndlovu last time out in March.

my mistake on the UD thanks Deno, but you know what i mean right? i have got the first one on DVd and Molitor totally beat Ndlovu down the Saffer had nothing to bother him at all
Poonsawat and Nishioka would batter Molitor i totally agree, and agree too Rendall would have a chance of grinding him down- i know which of the two would have the kingsized balls if things got tough and it wouldn't eb the Candian

Just got 9/4 on a Molitor stoppage win, seems a fair enough price.

Errrr wtf are you bleating on about now! Does it still boil your píss that your man Hunter quit on his stool against Booth after you basically sucked him off via a keyboard
Re: jason booth fighting molitor for ibf title on july 23rd
you said Hunter quit, and now, you are saying Booth will quit. Hunter had let himself slip a LONG way. He was in the ring owing to his previous achievments, come the night, we all saw proof of that. Booth was like a little shark he showed a lot of skill and no mercy.Hagler2002 wrote:NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:and you'll be screaming Booth quit will youHagler2002 wrote:It will end in a similar way to the Hunter fight.

However the difference between a washed up Hunter and a Molitor (who I expect to be in excellent condition) is HUGE.
I agree with you tho'. The fight will end in similar fashion because those breathers that Booth got versus Hunter, the luxury of doing what he liked at will....they won't exist. I don't know if he legs (ever) could get him out of the way of what's going to come his way.
If he makes 50k and gets back to his dressing room on foot, which he will, he'll have had a great night.
re: your childish remarks, I've seen Hunter fight loads but I'm not his baby-sitter, clearly he wasn't fit. If he was a quitter he could have stayed down versus Pickering or gassed versus Frankie De Milo, Tuncay Kaya etc. Too many keyboard hard men on here couldn't box eggs, got no business labelling IBF world title challengers quitters.
Re: jason booth fighting molitor for ibf title on july 23rd
congrats to jason i really didnt expect this to happen
Re: jason booth fighting molitor for ibf title on july 23rd

I thought Hunter was boxing a really clever fight, very cautious, he was really on his game. He didn't freeze imo, he just got gubbed by a couple of world class shots that he didn't know a thing about. One of 'em was so good that when Molitor followed up with some patsy shot, Hunter went down from the shock of the one from earlier.

Want Booth to win - just think Molitor is a step too far.
It will be a good fight though and as some have said Booth has a chance - unfortunately I think its a slim one - I would love to be wrong on this.

Re: jason booth fighting molitor for ibf title on july 23rd
I don't think Molitor has been the same sinced Caballero, but if you go on the 'as good as your last fight' saying, Booth looked like he might be on the slide against Marsh.
Hope I am wrong.

Re: jason booth fighting molitor for ibf title on july 23rd
I partially agree, I think at Super Bantam - what Booth has done in many ways is quite remarkable he could make Bantam comfortably enough but moved up cause there was a title opportunity.chris s wrote:I don't think Molitor has been the same sinced Caballero, but if you go on the 'as good as your last fight' saying, Booth looked like he might be on the slide against Marsh.

However, I wouldn't say he is on the "slide" so much, just I think he is on the same level as Matthew Marsh. Marsh is a good boxer in his own right, and I would say both belong in EBU class - just don't think either could make the step (at any point in their career) to make the step up.
I think what Marsh showed was that the previous opponents of Booth since the Napa reversal wasn't of a great standard - as opposed to Booth going backwards. Hunter didn't have that fire in the belly of old and none of the rest are amongst the very best in the UK.

Its a winnable fight for Booth, he has looked brilliant since returning. Moliter is a very good fighter though, but is he the smae after Cabellero destroyed him?
Re: jason booth fighting molitor for ibf title on july 23rd
molitor had enough left to beat takalani ndlovu again. he'd beaten the south african before losing to caballero and had enough left to beat him aferward.
in other words he might not be that much different - he has enough to win IBF titles but probably not enough to win the big fights. i believe he will come over here and beat a top british fighter - again.
there's rumours that golden boy signed poonsawat (WBA champ) and that poonsawat vs molitor unification is a possibility. i think the thai grinds out an entertaining 12 round decision.
