From BS.com "Former amateur standout, Frankie Gomez of East Los Angeles made his pro debut versus Clavonne Howard (2-4). The junior welterweight prospect looked sharp in scoring a third round stoppage. Both fighters started out throwing wild punches but Gomez calmed down and started landing his combinations. He ate some leather but responded well. In the second Gomez started really rocking Howard sending his overmatched opponent into retreat mode. The third round was more of the same until Joe Cortez saw enough and stopped the fight at the 2:45 mark. "

They just showed his fight. He looked really good against a tough guy who has never been stopped and helped Gomez show his skills.

I agree with many of you who say that amateur titles doesn't guarantee success in the pros. There are many factors in the pros that are absent in the amateurs. The biggest one is pain tolerance. I've sparred with many great amateur boxers who couldn't take hard sparring but they were great boxers as long as they didn't get hit with power shots.

As we know the tempo is a lot faster in the amateurs and a lot of it is instinctive with little regard for a solid tactical defense and power shots. The pros changes all that.

[Here's me talking about my boxing days: (lol)] I started boxing at a professional style of boxing from an old time Chicago Mexican from the 1940s who knew all the old school styles. However, it hindered my amateur development. I learned how to box like an amateur from the Air Force boxing team. Even though the bout ends with my opponent's face having a black eye, cut lip, and busted nose... he would win for landing quick slap hooks in exchange for my hard counters and body shots. lol I can't tell you how many Golden Gloves city/state champs I left with a beat up face keeping them out of the sport until they healed. lol I tell people that some boxers can endure pain like a Pit Bull and some has a much lower tolerance for pain.

It's a totally different game and amateur is continuing to either progress or regress to a sport like Karate or Judo in the Olympics. Soon the ref may yell out "point" and stop the exchange after someone lands a scoring punch! lol

Amateur boxing is fine the way it is and I hope it doesn't turn into that! lol

I LIKE Capulin. He was very impressive at U19s. Very strong boxer for his age.

Yup he beat Eric Fowler in a huge upset in regional Golden Gloves. It's sad people were relieved to see a fair decision because Eric has the name.

Well they are inking alot of fighters but are they becoming champions thru being with TKO. Im not so impressed with the fighters TKO has. Maybe the number of fighters they have signed lately is cool but beyond that im not so sure?

Is Cameron Dunkin paying anything to these fighters for managing them? Are these fighters getting any money to sign on with tko?

gman11 wrote:TKO has paid out a lot of money to these fighters and they have shows almost every weekend they are working hard on getting thier boxers fights. I know from being involved with them at times from show to show they have put thier guys on other promoters cards and paid out the purse. as far as talent goes you should take a good look at who is boxing for them and remember A lot of these fighters are or were at the top of the game in the amatures before they signed. And in my opinion the best manager in boxing is Camerion Dunken. ask around he is a stright shooter and knows talent when he sees it most important he knows who he can sell and who he can sell too all while keeping his fighters best interest. I have never seen Camerion burn a fighter (in this business that means a lot) your reputation is all you have to work with. Some fighters are moved slower than others it all depends some need more time getting used to the pros. its like when a JO boxer becomes a senior boxer in the amatures its not always a easy transittion.
Co-sign what u said.

We went up to Philly for the Philly vs. Puerto Rico show and after Miguel Cartagena's bout they announced it was his last amateur bout. He's turning pro too. Not sure of the details, but it was an impressive exit.

There is a rumor floating around the DC area that D'Mitrius Ballard will also turn pro shortly and either has signed or will sign with TKO.

Johnny is a good boxer and a good person. He is also strong and in great shape. He is willing to spar with anyone to get better. He has sparred w/ me and both of my sons (we are all heavier than him). Johnny will never be in a boring fight so promoters should want to put him on their cards.
