Ned lee and bobby beck were top class boxed for repton both southpaw and beck could bang! Also albert coates from Medway golden gloves he won everything as junior had a right tear up with ricky hatton! Hope there doing well.

Bobby now trains the juniors at Repton, the bouth with Hatton was nabc class a finals..
Ned Lee was a good boxer, tall and good jab, boxed Graham Earl a few times, and his brother is Andy Lee

Yeah, Johnson got lucky against Henry Wharton in the 1989 ABA middleweight final but he had boxed a good first round when Wharton hit him after the bell with a nothing shot in the chest. The referee waited till the start of the second to sling out Wharton. Crawford's brother Glen won the 1982 ABA light-heavyweight title with a clear win over Bobby Parkes but he then dropped off the scene completely.

Tony sinnott was a good amateur from liverpool in the late 70's.
Did ok as a pro then turned doorman,turned gangster and then got murdered.

I'm pretty sure he fought Marsh as a pro.

what about John Lyon, who i think was a Flyweight/Bantamweight who won multiple ABA titles and represnted England many times including the Olympics....He never turned pro, What's he up to these day's?

He lost to Terry Barker in the 1980 ABA light-flyweight final, the father of Darren, then won four ABA light-flyweight titles on the spin, lost to Mark Epton in the 1985 ABA prelims in a war, moved up to flyweight and won another four ABA titles on the spin.

I'm pretty sure that nobody has ever been convicted for his murder but I doubt he would missed to be honest as he sounded like a wrong'un.
Who ever it was that killed him shot him over 20 times with a machine gun.

Danny Happe was class & an under achiever for the talent he had imo. on his day he's skills could blow a spectator away :!:

Daniel Happe was the top man, when I was boxing in the ams. Think the top guys at my weight were Happe, Steven Mathews and Nigel Wright. Wish there was somewhere to get all their records - results etc. All that history lost.

jamie branch and guy wild were other class acts and peter culshaw said in an interview that his brother terry was a nightmare as an amateur; he could really whack.

Branch beat Paul Rogers in a final if my memory serves me well. Looked terrible as a pro though.
Peter Richardson was a top amateur but again didn't quite do it as a pro. Won his first 10 - 12 fights lost about 3 towards the end. Beat Vernon Forest in the Olympics tho!

Carlos - Mohammed was from Chechenya and was training as a dentist. He did indeed box for the Fitzroy Lodge and forced Audley Harrison to quit in the London ABA championships, which were held that year at Crystal Palace. Amazingly, the Daily Telegraph took a 1,000 word piece on Mohammed's struggle and sent a snappa with me to the Harrison fight. Mo uttered the immortal phrase: "Audrey, where is Audrey," at the weigh-in.
RPMS - I know that Shaun's brother has given you an answer. However, let me add that Shaun was the best of a generation that included Naseem Hamed. I wrote about the amateurs in Boxing News at the time and Shaun stole the limelight in final after final. I'm not sure on figures but it is a tiny club of boys who won 7 out of the 8 possible Junior titles - it is an even smaller group of fighters who won all eight.
I was at Shaun's funeral last Wednesday and it was truly awful. My heart goes out to his family.

good to see steve bunce was here am gutted about shaun gray. on a different note; what about darren mcarrick who iced adrian stone in a final and bradley welsh was a good boxer who seemed to beat about everyone he faced. allan hall was a good n who didn't do that great as a pro but he was a brilliant amateur.

Hi Billy; I was always puzzled about that myself. Shaun was knocking them out for fun till he was 17 and then didn't seem to box again. I always imagined that women and drink got the better of him. There's no denying that he was the best of the bunch in the early 90's. Gary Lockett won loads around the same time and then so did Naseem Hamed, after a break Ricky Hatton won about everything but no one won more than Shaun or in the same way; he knocked em out at every stage RIP.

Khaosi galaxy; I wouldn't give a monkeys if Peter Richardson was gay or not. The man could box and punch for fun and had bottle to burn. He could've bottled out any time in over 100 bouts. Who gives a toss who the bloke likes to look at?

A kid from Gemini in liverpool Lee Eadle he was a good lad won a few nationals.....and Benny May .....didnt he have a couple of pro the did some underground stuff......a good kid from north east....from Wellington club..Tony Robinson...he won a couple of nationals and won the four nations also he beat Stefy Bull in a round

who never turned pro - some of these guys had hundreds of fights but we never hear about them on here and I
think it is about time we asked for their whereabouts and give them our best wishes. So I will go first...

Paul Rogers of the Penhill RBL - This guy got to the ABA finals 4 times in the 80s and the 90s only to be facing
Kelly Oliver every single time. I remember reading he was a brickie or a plasterer and had a good come forward style
that complemented Olivers more fluid boxing ability (I must admit, the ABAs were the only time I ever saw Rogers fight) I think Paul became a trainer down there at Penhill RBL - So Paul, if you are reading this - hope you are well and I remember
you as an amateur boxing starlwart from the 80s.

I also remember Dave Lund who was the heavyweight champion of the Channel Islands who boxed for Pisces ABC down there in Jersey and was a nurse - he always seemed to come up against Ben Harding in the western divs.

Paul Rodgers is something to do with the swindon boxing academy with paddy.

I took jason cook and a few others up there for sparring with there boys, met paul for the first time up thee and he was a very nice guy and made us feel welcome.
