Love all the quotes!

Couple of my faves:

"I'll beat him so bad he'll need a shoehorn to put his hat on."
-Ali (about who? I forget)

In the early 90's, Tommy Morrisson knocked down Wimpy Halstead, and the ref said "are you ok?", and Wimpy jokingly responded "barely". Ref waved the fight off, to Wimpy's loud protests!

At the Van Horne/Barkley press conference, Darrin Van Horne's father said "We're going to bomb Iraq!"

After fighting Iran Barkley, James Toney was told that Iran suffered from two detached retinas. James respoded with "I f*cked you up, you blind bastard"

Reporter: "Will you continue Boxing even if you lose?"

George Foreman: "Beg your pardon?"

Reporter: "You will continue Boxing even if you would lose over there?"

George Foreman: "I beg your pardon?"

Right before Foreman fought Ali. Peak of his powers, Height of his arrogance.

Oh yeah, I thought it was funny when, before his fight with Jeff Fenech, Azumah Nelson said "I will make him vomit".

"Mister, it's my business to get him in trouble."

Sugar Ray Robinson at a coroner's inquest investigating Robinson's title defense against Jimmy Doyle, from which Doyle suffered brain injuries that cost him his life. The coroner had asked Robinson if he was trying to get Doyle "in trouble."

Tex Cobb sitting in a bar in Philly with a buddy of his after they had tossed insults back and forth with some "patrons".
The guys came back later on with baseball bats to pummel Cobb and his unlucky friend.
Cobb seeing them walk through the door turns to his buddy and says,"gee Mike, I hope thats the softball team".

"This is the day, man, you understand? You not fightin' Quarry, you not fightin' Bonavena, you not fightin' Liston, you fightin' Joe Frazier!" - Joe Frazier, in a rare riposte to Ali's pre-fight hyperbole going into The Fight Of The Century. Said with a lot of conviction.

Here's some lines my father, Charley Norkus, used during his career:

" There's no sense knocking him down anymore, he'd just get up again"
To the Miami Herald after their Jan 1954 bloodbath fight in which Danny Nardico was knocked down 6 times, Norkus twice.

2 months later in at the weigh-in for their rematch in Miami:Norkus tells Danny
" I'm gonna hit you so hard that if you dont go down, your gonna do funny things standing up".

Around 1980, Charley Norkus fought good friend Chuck Wepner in a charity exhibition bout :Wepner who knows all the tricks in the book used to step on a fighters toes just as he timed a punch on his opponents jaw knocking him down off-balance:
Just before the opening bell in the ring:
Wepner: "Look out for my right hand, Charley"
Norkus: " I'm watching out for your right foot"
Those all in earshot laughed their asses off.

After being told by a San Francisco reporter that ODouls Bar/Restaurant was the place to go for a meal after training for his first Charlie Powell fight 1954
Norkus says " Tell ole' man ODoul he should advertise on the bottom of Charlie Powell's shoes during the fight".

Reporter to Barkley " If you weren't a fighter Iran, what would you be doing?"
Barkley " Robbing your house"  :OhYes:

A local lightweight boxer, and good mate, Chris Noble once said to me, and I'm sure it's not originally his, when explaining another local's style and ability, "he thinks defense goes 'round de house."

After his fight with Pipino Cuevas, Tommy Hearns said something along the lines of, "If he hadn't gone down after that second right hand, I would have left the ring!"

The next time I’ll keeel him!
-Roberto Duran, after he knocked out Ray Lampkin and sent him to the hospital in front of a Saturday afternoon television audience.

There is a resentment between the Mexicans and the Puerto Ricans because the Puerto Ricans talk too much and they almost always come out looking bad. But I’m afraid of Sammy Fuentes because he never talks.
- Julio Cesar Chavez

I did say that I beat Bob Arum and all his Jew lawyers, but I said it in Spanish. It doesn’t sound so bad in Spanish, it only sounds wrong when you say it in English.
- Oscar De la Hoya

Television Interviewer: Will you look into the camera and wish Sonny Liston a happy New Year?
Cassius Clay: Yeah, he’s gonna need happiness after I annihilate him, ‘cause I’m gonna beat him so bad he’s gonna think he robbed a bank!

I wouldn’t be Irish if I weren’t stupid.
-Billy Conn, on why he chose to try to knock out Joe Louis instead of boxing safely to a decision.

"In the first round, I hit him and he laughed. In the second round, I hit him and he sneered. In the third round, he knocked me out."

- Cool Vince Phillips, on fighting Ike Quartey.

When I fought as an amateur, I really clocked a guy HARD! The referee jumped in and asked him if he was okay? He laughed. I stayed on my bicycle the rest of the fight.
