I think it's fair to include the IBF but understand what you mean about the big four. That said, to be fair to FWP it feels like ages since any World title fight from a lower organisation. Not sure when but it must have been a while ago now ?
Of course, IBF as well, Jesus, there's eve so many "legitimate" world titles I'm beginning to forget them! I would just like fwp to make a statement regarding wbu etc. so that other promoters are forced to follow suit or look silly. Its the one thing I would most like to change about boxing and only someone with fwanks power may actually be able to do something about it. Maybe......,
yeah but then look at that dodgy belt the WBC/WBA (I forget) are doing in Europe -- a certain mag was all over that a while back... and then Degale fights for it!

I think you are talking about boxing news's article on the EBA and WBO European belts. These are belts that are an alturnative to the European Title. James deGale did not box for either of these belts. He boxed for the WBA International belt. As I'm sure you are aware, the main four bodies each have a junior title. This is the best he holds.

http://www.europeboxing.com/principal.html - EBA is affiliated to WBA not WBO so straight away you have gone awry.

See the main website links to it http://www.wbaonline.com/

I'm going to have to dig out the article but I am fairly certain that the BBBofC insists that the belt is called WBA International rather than EBA when fought for in this country.

Easy mistake.

The WBA International and EBA Title are not one and the same. However, because the WBA recognize the EBA, the EBA Champion will get a WBA Ranking (Much the same way that the WBC recognize the EBU Title and so European Champions automaticly get a WBC ranking).

As for the BBBofC, no EBA Title has been fought for in this country...ever. If changing the name of the belt is one of the factors in providing sanction, then I'm sure the EBA and BBBofC will cross that bridge when they come to it.

James DeGale is the WBA International Champion not the EBA (in any way).

The junior belts of all four main governing bodies have been around for many years and have proven a very good stepping stone for many our our country's best boxers to progress to the top level. Naseem Hamed, Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan to name a few have all boxed for these Titles on their way to World Championships.

P.S

When I say easy mistake, I ment YOUR mistake. My mention of EBA AND WBO European was not ones connection to the other, it was the subject of the boxing news article refered to earlier. These are two new belts that are in competition with the EBU. That was the article.

EBA is a regional title of the WBA... same belt different name DeGale holds a spurious belt in spurious company.

He's a good boxer but this sanctioning body shite can fool so many people obviously.

As I understand it the answer is No with a slight Yes. The EBU are members of the WBC as are the BBBofC so you could possibly argue that the title is a regional title of the WBC but then you would have to extrapolate that reasoning to say that the British title is a national title of the WBC. The WBC regional titles that are marked as such in the system ie WBC Asian / CABOFE / FECOMBOX are either more tightly integrated with the WBC head office (but not necessarily directly run from it) or wish to advertise their link to the WBC for greater credibility. Those affiliated to but not marked WBC are really autonomous titles such as the EBU and NABF. I realise this isn't a very clear explanation but that's boxing :TU:

Thanks John. To be honest I was being sarcastic to MatthewS who has the total wrong end of the stick.

The initial point was about the EBA and WBO Europe titles. These two newish titles are being criticized (rightly or wrongly). However, it was said on here that the EBU Title is a WBA Title and that Jame DeGale is the EBU Super-Middleweight Champion. This is not the case. The EBA is an alturtative to the European belt pure and simple. Yes it gives you a WBA ranking but noly in the same way as the European title gets you a WBC ranking (as you have rightly pointed out John). No sanction fee from the EBA belts goes to the WBA (as has wrongly been said on here) the same way as no European sanction fees go to the WBC.

I understand it can be confusing, but if people don't understand something they should not make halfright (at best) comments.

Would it be wrong of me to suggest that allegedly has won the purse bids because Ryan has a major belt, is going places and he has hardly any headliners in his own right, now that Khan has ditched him, and Kevin M got beat. I think its the weakest that I have ever seen his stable. For the first time, I can see other promoters taking over now.

Fwank will still remain the no1 in this country for a long time yet.He has some good lads coming through, spread nicely around the country. He gets good gates in Liverpool,Gavin will draw a lot in Brum when he boxes for a title and he has a few Londoners.Maybe he has an eye on doing something with Brook in Sheffield as part of the Rhodes bill?Ryan is an established ticket seller and the two of them would surely draw a full house.I hope Murray signs with him and gets Katsidis at the M.E.N,Fwank could definately make that fight.

I agree, if Man Utd or Chelsea have a poor season they will still be up there at the end, why?

Because the others simply aren't good enough regardless of how much money they throw away trying to be!

That is the facts I'm afraid!

Tell it to the publication then.

I cant quote it on here but I PMd you the relevant parts...

If I have misunderstood the topic then thats one thing but I have not wilfully misconstrued what the article said. If they are only half right why not send them a letter?
