so really it depends if he's fighting in the west midlands on friday fight night, or if he's fighting on RTE in ireland...Deno1986 wrote:A person's nationality is for that individual to decide and not others. Re: Macklin: "Darren's all Bark and no bite"
quick question. Was the YouTube interview with Ellie for RTE or was it in Ireland?Autobarn wrote:so really it depends if he's fighting in the west midlands on friday fight night, or if he's fighting on RTE in ireland...Deno1986 wrote:A person's nationality is for that individual to decide and not others. I think you will find that most second generation Irish in England that I have met will have much more of an affinity with the city they grew up in as opposed to the country e.g. they are much more likely to describe themselves as Birmingham-Irish, Manchester-Irish etc as opposed to Anglo-Irish, English-Irish, British-Irish etc.
You seem to have a real issue with Macklin stating he is Irish any particular reason for this?
Re: Macklin: "Darren's all Bark and no bite"
i don't have an issue. irishness can be marketable in boxing and this is what i was pointing at. on the contrary this thread seems to be a big deal over nothing. though i have to say, his best performances came in england (elcock, aiskainen) not ireland (campas, pintos).

Re: Macklin: "Darren's all Bark and no bite"
Well you are insinuating that he is only "pretending to be Irish" for money. That's how your posts are reading to me. Where his best performances occurred have no baring on his nationality if it did then McGuigan is English and McCullough is Japanese!Autobarn wrote:i don't have an issue. irishness can be marketable in boxing and this is what i was pointing at. on the contrary this thread seems to be a big deal over nothing. though i have to say, his best performances came in england (elcock, aiskainen) not ireland (campas, pintos).

of course he's not pretending, if he has parent from ireland and a brother - i belive - with an irish name.slapbangwhallop wrote:Well you are insinuating that he is only "pretending to be Irish" for money. maybe i'm a bit cynical when it comes to the business of boxing, and can see that there is a market for exciting fighters who have a claim to being irish in the post dunne era...

If thats your opinion then fair enough, all I can say is that I disagree. Many people I know in a similar position to Macklin would also find that insinuation pretty disrespectful.Autobarn wrote:of course he's not pretending, if he has parent from ireland and a brother - i belive - with an irish name.slapbangwhallop wrote:Well you are insinuating that he is only "pretending to be Irish" for money. Macklin's "Irishness" didn't begin with the Dunne era. For example the guy played hurling for Tipperary as a kid (which would be similar to playing underage county cricket) and spent much of his youth in Ireland.

Re: Macklin: "Darren's all Bark and no bite"
is macklin going to fight in america on a big card?
i'd love to see the debates that will happen, once either buffer or lennon jr announces "from birmingham, england"- , or "hailing from Ireland"- MATTHEW MACKLIN

If hes in America theyl announce his as from ireland half the battle over there is getting the irish behind you.
Re: Macklin: "Darren's all Bark and no bite"
darren barker seems to be the most hated man in ireland right now. at least if you read these forums.
but i reckon if he turned out to be irish, then the irish fans would get behind him, and forget all about the belgecham fight (as belge hurt andy lee late on, vut then again everyone does that, don't they?).

Re: Macklin: "Darren's all Bark and no bite"
How do you know he is better than Lee? The only evidence that one is better than the other is the amateur fight they had which Lee won plus the common opponent they have - Belghecam, who Lee outboxed for 9 rounds and who Barker struggled with and scraped a decision against over 12 rounds. Macklin has called out Barker aswell a few times, yet all seems to be quiet on Barkers side.HomeOfBritishBoxing wrote:why is barker the most hated man in ireland? because he is better then andy lee and they knw macklin is ducking barkerAutobarn wrote:darren barker seems to be the most hated man in ireland right now. at least if you read these forums.

i just believe barker is better then lee, don't need no evidence other then lee got sparked by a bum and barker is undefeated triple champion
Re: Macklin: "Darren's all Bark and no bite"
Now you're proving your lack of knowledge just like I pointed out last time. Don't let personal feelings toward a fighter cloud your judgment. Macklin certainly hasn't or isn't avoiding Darren Barker - If he has it has been for bigger fights.HomeOfBritishBoxing wrote:macklin has called out barker a few timesDeno1986 wrote:How do you know he is better than Lee? barker has been calling macklin out for YEARS!! and macklin duckd him every time. now macklin has called him out and barker is maning up and taking the fight, when are purse bids?

In my opinion Macklin stops Barker. I've been in the ring with both (all be it Barker as an amateur and I know he has seriously improved) and I feel Macklin's strength, power and all round attacking skills will be way too much for Darren, also Macklin's boxing brain is underrated. Now I like Darren Barker, I rate him a lot and think he is a lovely lad as well as a good fighter so this is nothing personal just because Macklin is a good friend of mine.
I just feel on watching the last few performances, added to what I know and believe - Macklin has too much.

That "bum" is better than anything you "triple champion" has ever faced.

Re: Macklin: "Darren's all Bark and no bite"
Macklin has turned down fights with Barker, maybe for bigger fights but if he fancied his chances then surely he would've just taken the fight? Big money and big publicity? If Macklin is so good why isnt he getting these big title fights??? He should fight Barker, it will be his biggest fight but would get taught a lesson. Barker to stop Mackin late on.
