Does anyone know what they where Won for?
Re: frank wins rhodes purse bids
Wasn't there talk of Rhodes fighting Margarito as an eliminator to set up a shot at world honours?
Rhodes really needs to strike while his iron's currently hot. Time isn't on his side.

i think he is ranked 4th by the wbc, 1 more win and he could and should get his shot.Terrrrry wrote:Wasn't there talk of Rhodes fighting Margarito as an eliminator to set up a shot at world honours?

Re: frank wins rhodes purse bids
I knew he was ranked pretty high by the WBC. Just checked their site, and he's actually rated 3rd.
Surprised his team haven't really pushed for a shot at Margarito next time out.

Re: frank wins rhodes purse bids
I thought that was interesting as well, perhaps they did not want to win the purse bids, perhaps they have something else lined up for Rhodes, I love conspiracy theories!!diggler wrote:http://www.allegedly.tv/boxing/index. ... ntage.html

Interesting that Frank made a fuss on his website about them not doing the procedure right is really strange as they have put on a few European title fights recently if memory serves so they would know the drill.

Re: frank wins rhodes purse bids
He's a good fighter mate, with decent World rankings.
However you'd expect that from a European mandatory.
His last 5 fights have been at Middleweight against mediocre opposition - in total those 5 opponents had lost 98 fights.
Both Rhodes and Konecny have fought Petrovics recently.
Rhodes stopped him, but he went the distance with Konecny.
This will be a tough assignment no doubt, but everyone is looking forward to it.

Re: frank wins rhodes purse bids
Sheffield's ageless Ryan Rhodes is shortly to defend his European light-middleweight title against mandatory challenger Lukas Konecny of the Czech Republic after promoter F rank Warren won the purse bids.
Rhodes, who turned pro back in 1995, lifted the big belt with a sensational stoppage of Salford's Jamie Moore in seven rounds last October and thumped the resistance out of first challenger Luca Messi of Italy in six impressive rounds last month. Quite simply, Rhodes is boxing better than ever at 33, and hitting harder than ever. After a long spell at middleweight, he looks tremendously strong a weight down. He must be close to a major world title shot.
First comes Konecny, who challenged unbeaten Sergiy Dzinziruk for the WBO light-middleweight title in Germany in April 2008 and fought magnificently to condede a majority verdict, which in Germany means Konecny was essentially robbed. Aggressive and relentless, Konecny has gone unbeaten since and brings over a daunting 44-3 (21) record, his three defeats all on points away from home.
Clearly, the 31-year-old challenger is battle-hardened, dangerous, well-travelled, durable and 'big' for the weight like Rhodes, given that his most recent wins have come at middleweight. Nevertheless, Rhodes has an almost identical record at 44-4 (30), his four defeats up at middle, and carries a real edge in punch power – with both hands - as he switches stances to rain his bombs on the unsuspecting. I can see him outpunching a tough and game opponent, for 12 rounds if necessary, in a cracking match.
This is the European title at its best.

As far as I understand it, from speaking to Ryan a few weeks back, Ryan sacked F rank W as his manager and is now self-managed. Of course F rank is contesting his dismissal.
But, if he won the purse bids then fair play to him. Didn't think Ryan or Dave C wanted to do business with F rank again tho.

Re: frank wins rhodes purse bids
This next guy has an awesome record and if Ryan can beat him then i cant see why he cant contest at high level for the WBC, but as many have posted on here his defence is still Ingle style 'cocky and terrible' it opnly takes one of those top mexicans to hit hard, i mean harder than the likes of Messi and Jamie Moore and his in trouble
Re: frank wins rhodes purse bids
They have 88 wins between 'em.

Jacko,
How are you mate ?
Rhodes is a different animal to the one you faced.
This is going to be a quality fight.

Yeah Rhodes signed a 3 fight deal with the Hattons starting with the last fight.Wake up call wrote:As far as I understand it, from speaking to Ryan a few weeks back, Ryan sacked F rank W as his manager and is now self-managed. Of course F rank is contesting his dismissal.

Anyone can submit purse bids, remember Warren won Glen Johnson-Clinton Woods several years ago. I'm not sure how it would affect the contract with the Hattons and whether they may look to get him an eliminator. Warren may not have any desire to stage the bout, remember the situation with Cleverly earlier this year with the Hattons looking to promote his European title fight

Re: frank wins rhodes purse bids
Now Warren has won the purse bids for Macklin vs Barker..... bizarre - isn't Macklin with Hatton and Baker with Hennessy.
