Do Aussies love or hate Kangaroos?

Post by JAHamilton77 »

I mean on one hand you ask Australians what they think of Kangaroos and they will say, Ah the damn things are pests etc etc etc.

On the other hand, they plaster kangaroos all over their merchandise like that Australian shampoo they sell up here, and work some variation of it into various words like "soccaroos".

Agree with Ben mate, I live in the city, so you never see them, but ask the country boys and the might have a different opinion, but get out in the outback on dusk and they are everywere, believe it or not they taste good and low in fat...

They don't bother me, but wish they'd swim between the flags @ Surfers Paradise.

Kangaroos are dopey bastards, that's for sure :TU:

Some people feel a bit odd eating our national symbol but last time I ate some I never had that thought. I just kept thinking how over-rated it was

Interestingly, this is a more relevant topic on a boxing forum than some might have thought. Kangaroo meat is probably the healthiest meat you can eat and ideal for boxers in training. It is very low in fat, yet very high in protein.

You should try it seared in a pan then finished to rare/medium rare in a slow (150 deg. Celsius or less) oven, served with some hoy sin sauce or red wine reduction. You may very well change your mind about it being over rated.

It's a great source of protein and iron, I believe being the richest source of iron of all the known red meats, whilst being the leanest of all known red meats, and most importantly, being virtually free of saturated fats. Was a staple during my boxing/kickboxing days.

French sporting teams have a male chicken on the breast of their jerseys. Give us a yell when they stop eating coq au vin.

How times had changed. In mid 90's when I was duty manager at an Adelaide Motel, roo was on the menu, but only overseas tourists would give it a go.

Hunters would leave the carcasses at the side of the road for a truck to pick up. They had a tendency to be worm infested. I would still not eat it.
