Agree..
Re: Plonker smalls in the Sun today..oh dear
Judging by the deluge of posts on the subject it would seem Small and his mates have got their way, whether that is to raise the debate or simply seeking attention is another matter.
I don't agree with these protests generally, but that would apply to the mayday protests and any other routine protest whose regularity softens any genuine hardship should it arise. However, I respect everyone's right to involve themselves in the shenanigans, however ill-judged i may deem it.
The situation would be considerably more concerning with the involvement of a more widely known Muslim, such as Amir Khan, but thankfully that isn't the case. It's supported instead by a boxer who has only made the pages of the shameless newspaper in relation to his political beliefs and activity rather than his ring achievements. I think banning him should be out of the question. If he fights at a bill your attending and you are not a fan, just treat him as the joke pantomime villain he is building himself up to be.

I've seen some of Khans facebook rants, for example "got stopped at airport again cuz my name is KHAN!"
Now I understand his frustration, but the threat is there from people named 'khan'. You get no preferential treatment from airport authorities anywhere for being a celebrity. Last week MMA HW legend Mirko 'CroCop' Filipovic was stopped by Canadian authorities about his military service for the former Yugoslavia. http://www.tsn.ca/mma/story/?id=324807
Only the Muslim community can weed out the bad eggs.

G0mez wrote:You obviously know zilch about the reasons for remaining on in the country do you?
Pretty much the entire 'country' and i use that term loosely was basically a terrorist state run by the Taliban - since ousting them the US & UK forces have remained in situ to try to restore some sort of law and order by backing the freedom fighters and organising a ballot to elect a leader - which saw president Karzai win over the majority of the states to try and bring the place back to the normality it once had many decades ago.
The problem is the taliban are now operating in and amongst the simple people of the country. Warlords from many areas are waging their own campaigns individually against their own people trying to run the country. The Taliban / Al Quaida are splintered throughout and until the insurgents are dealt with and crushed, the allied troops cannot leave the new council on their own or they would be slaughtered and the place goes back to the dark ages.
Pash's, Tajiks, Hazars, Uzbeks, Turkmen, Baluck - all ethnic groups that live in different parts of the country that all support president Karzai, a man who has had rocket grenades, bullets and knives thrown at him for the last 4 years, killing many of his staff - but he is toughing it out to see the job through...and the troops of ours and his own are working together to put the country back in order.
But anthony Small chimes in and turns into yet another religious argument .. "My brothers and sisters" - what the prat fails to understand amongst all of his brainwashing, is that they are killing each other, these so called brothers and sisters. Thick git.
Afghanistan has long been occupied, long before 9/11.
You think we're in there to stablise the place? To get rid of the naughty men in charge?
How come we're not doing the same to Mugabe in Zimbabwe?
Lol.

This constant need for control and power of other peoples lands is what causes the terrorism that you believe our soldiers are 'protecting' us from.
overhand right , you tell me. I assume I am wrong in your eyes...... I give up I dont know what this country is about now a days, I just hope we are never under attack because i know with a generation like you we would be in grave danger. I take it you are very young
What, a generation like me who don't want to control other peoples lands that we have no business being in, and lying to the public about why we are there and scaremongering our own people? 'Oh, they'll blow us up if we're not there to police them, they want to destroy our Western ways!'
How come we aren't bringing peace and stability to Zimbabwe? That despot Mugabe has been killing and brutalising his people for well over a decade.

If you remember back to 9/11, the U.S was attacked and teh they started a war on the Taliban in Afghanistan without any proven connection between the two.
Then they decide that they have to find Saddam Hussein and kill him, which they do and find themselves ion another war in Iraq.
They/we or anyone should not be in either of these places. Their presence does no good whatsoever long term.
Why arent we in Burma where their is some sickening poop going on, or Somalia where the pirates are hijacking vessels on a weekly basis? Because it does not make economical sense.
The price of oil and who controls it has been a driving force behind many wars in the past adnd what wew see now is no different. Of course it helps if the media is also controlled to the extent it is in both the U.S and the UK. Who do you think owns Fox news?
Some of the tabloid-reading loons on this forum show how effective controlling the media is. Some people need journalists to tell them what to think.
Ooh, our lads are heroes, we'd be under attack without them!
The UK and US forces in other peoples countries for crooked reasons and the sleazy leaders controlling them are the real menace.

What is the worst thing he is meant to have done or said?
Our soldiers could always refuse to go.

Its not about comparing Ali and Small and a denial of basic rights and freedoms - Its about Ali who was ostracized by the boxing authorities because he spoke out against a war and thats what Small is doing - which is his right in a democracy as it was supposedly Ali's. Nobody really knows if he has suffered or not or if he has embraced the faith fully - he has changed his name to Abdul Haqq - I don't know if that is such a big sacrifice. The only difference I can see is that Small isn't a conciecious objector and that the country's main boxing promoter has cut him off because of his political beliefs. It will be interesting to see what the BBB of C will do about Smalls/Haqq's license.

Look, we know why we are there, for what is underground. I have no problem with that, as it will benefit me and future generations of my family. Our soldiers are dieing for our future, and our freedom. What the fcuk will we do when we have no oil etc in the future? We will be fcuked. So lets get control, and look after No.1
What ever reason we are there, we still have an enemy that presents a danger at home.

Anyone, regardless of religion, does have a right to express an opinion critical of the governement and the armed forces. If we did not have that right, then Britain would be a military dictatorship.
For sure, targetting a parade was bad, but people need to understand that holding an opinion critical of "Our Boys" (or anything else in governement) IS a British right, and that should be protected.
I don't agree with what Small says, but I support his right to say it.

It saddens me to see some peoples comments on here - Although the older I get the more I accept people have opinions and have a right to freedom of speech.
However what I cannot accept is how many people go out of their way to come to our country as they see it as an easy touch with regards housing and benefits etc etc - those very people then slag the place off and demonstrate against it as if its a terrible terrible place - do you they forget their relatives once went out of their way to get here in the first place.
I love the UK, I served in the British Army for 24 years - with regards Afghanistan I often think what the f*ck we are doing there, however what over rides that is my overwhelming support and admiration for the lads and lasses of our Armed forces who do a truly outstanding job despite whatever political beliefs they have.
To put a boxing slant on this - a couple of years ago a very very good boxing friend who served in the forces called Dan Shirley died whilst serving in Afghanistan - Dan loved the sport and was a very very good boxing coach in the RLC - in the May just before he was taken away from us he came to my house on the scrounge for boxing memorabilia as his Army Unit were having a boxing evening in aid of Help For Hero's - he was delighted as I gave him a signed Ricky Hatton glove amongst other things - little did I realise the stuff I gave him was going to eventually lead to help his own family only a couple of months later.
For me the UK is a great country, yes I wonder why the f*ck we get involved in certain things but as an ex serving soldier and like those who are still in - we do as we are told and we do things to the best of our ability.
Loyalty and patriosim was drummed into me at an early age and then with my forces background I simply cannot understand and never will - people who slag off this great country of ours - I have a very simplistic viewpoint - if you dislike it that much you want to slag it off in the media or you want to join in demonstrations that extremists relish in - then why not f*ck off and bring an end to your unhappiness in the UK and allow those who want to stay to work hard for their living and who want to stay here - I dont give a toss what religion, colour or whatever people are - if you are in the UK - WELCOME - but dont moan about the place.
As for Small - he knows very well what he is doing - he has a very very short memory - when he was with Adam Booth - I remember he boxed in Huddersfield on the undercard of a show that David Haye was meant to box Hobson - Ticket sales did not go well at all due to Hobson pulling out so I got a couple of hundred squaddies in at the last minute as a bit of a "rent a crowd" - the lads mobbed every boxer as they left the ring and Small commented on them afterwards saying they were absolutely brilliant - indeed he signed autographs and spent a lot of time with them having photograghs etc etc - Small knew they were squaddies and indeed asked me to ensure they came to his next fight etc etc etc - how times change!!!
Small in my view has jumped over Amir Khan into Number 1 place of boxers I have an intense dislike for - they really do need to make up their minds about the UK - if they feel that strongly about the place - find another country to live in.

I have family in the army, and had family in the Navy, and we have always shown respect for the army - they are professionals doing a difficult job. But "heros"? Most people I know who have served find that concept very uncomfortable.

People have a right to express criticism of the way a country is run. It's one of the differences between a dictatorship and a democracy.
What about those people in Germany in the 1930s who disliked the way Germany was run? Should they (regardless of race of background) have done the patriotic thing and kept quiet?
Often, too, people can't leave as they have nowhere else to go.

The USAF have just converted an F-16 to run on bio-gas(which incidentally will never run out because it's created from biological waste) and the vast majority of vehicle manufacturers have the know how for building engines that run on any type of gas, this whole notion that "we'll be fcuked" when the oil runs out is a load of twaddle. Bio-fuels are the future and always have been, the oil companies are just making use of the money brought in from the oil while they can and then they'll move onto bio-fuels.carlbcfc wrote:What the fcuk will we do when we have no oil etc in the future?

As for heroism? I get embarrassed when people want to shake my hand just because I served in the army, a dog of war trained to do a violent and horrible thing, sometimes it has to be done, most of the time it doesn't, as I always state I was in it for the money not this "for queen and country" bollocks and certainly not to be a hero.
