With regards to your comment you were there for the money - it is a simple fact that UK Forces are amongs the poorest with regards pay and certainly the poorest with regards supplies and ammenities.

However what I cannot accept is how many people go out of their way to come to our country as they see it as an easy touch with regards housing and benefits etc etc - those very people then slag the place off and demonstrate against it as if its a terrible terrible place - do you they forget their relatives once went out of their way to get here in the first place.

I love the UK, I served in the British Army for 24 years - with regards Afghanistan I often think what the f*ck we are doing there, however what over rides that is my overwhelming support and admiration for the lads and lasses of our Armed forces who do a truly outstanding job despite whatever political beliefs they have.

To put a boxing slant on this - a couple of years ago a very very good boxing friend who served in the forces called Dan Shirley died whilst serving in Afghanistan - Dan loved the sport and was a very very good boxing coach in the RLC - in the May just before he was taken away from us he came to my house on the scrounge for boxing memorabilia as his Army Unit were having a boxing evening in aid of Help For Hero's - he was delighted as I gave him a signed Ricky Hatton glove amongst other things - little did I realise the stuff I gave him was going to eventually lead to help his own family only a couple of months later.

For me the UK is a great country, yes I wonder why the f*ck we get involved in certain things but as an ex serving soldier and like those who are still in - we do as we are told and we do things to the best of our ability.

Loyalty and patriosim was drummed into me at an early age and then with my forces background I simply cannot understand and never will - people who slag off this great country of ours - I have a very simplistic viewpoint - if you dislike it that much you want to slag it off in the media or you want to join in demonstrations that extremists relish in - then why not f*ck off and bring an end to your unhappiness in the UK and allow those who want to stay to work hard for their living and who want to stay here - I dont give a toss what religion, colour or whatever people are - if you are in the UK - WELCOME - but dont moan about the place.

As for Small - he knows very well what he is doing - he has a very very short memory - when he was with Adam Booth - I remember he boxed in Huddersfield on the undercard of a show that David Haye was meant to box Hobson - Ticket sales did not go well at all due to Hobson pulling out so I got a couple of hundred squaddies in at the last minute as a bit of a "rent a crowd" - the lads mobbed every boxer as they left the ring and Small commented on them afterwards saying they were absolutely brilliant - indeed he signed autographs and spent a lot of time with them having photograghs etc etc - Small knew they were squaddies and indeed asked me to ensure they came to his next fight etc etc etc - how times change!!! :o :o :o

Small in my view has jumped over Amir Khan into Number 1 place of boxers I have an intense dislike for - they really do need to make up their minds about the UK - if they feel that strongly about the place - find another country to live in.
That's the best post you've made in the decade+ I have been reading your opinions. Well done, mate. :TU:
Cheers pal - it really does sadden me how Small has changed and whilst many people call it freedom of speech it saddens me reading some of the views on this very thread - yes of course people have a right to express their views but it also means I have a right to disagree with them.

Muhammad Ali stood up for his religious beliefs and refused to take the draft and in the became a hero for it, so why should Small be any different if he believes thewar is wrong and he is, as he puts it, just standing up for his fellow muslims dying around the world?

We live in a democracy and if he wants to stand on a street corner voicing his displeasure then let him. Those of us against the war were were allowed to march freely through the streets of London voicingour grievance too. Last time I looked it wasn't against the law!

I havnt stated its against the law - it seems you and others are trying desperately to drum up some sort of controversy here in your desperate attempts to validate Smalls views - yes he has a right to express them, yes he has the right to demonstrate against our armed forces and government - but my post in this thread was designed to show you how much he has changed with regards to how contradictory his views have become regarding our Armed Forces - yes he has a right to change his opinion as I do often enough - but to change those viewpoints so radically in such a relative short space of time is alarming to say the very least.

Well you are right, but I was getting paid more than most of my friends were and I was getting a roof over head and food for far less than I would anywhere else. As I got older and wiser I did begin to think "I'm not getting paid enough for this" and decided to call it quits and went else where, I did consider going down the private military route as they do get paid some good money but decided against it but anyway at the time I signed up it was simply for the money as it was a lot more than someone like me could have made anywhere else.

Banjo,

I agree with your thoughts concerning certain things were cheaper than elsewhere and if I were perfectly honest with you - I was finding things more difficult quite a few years before I actually left but stuck at it for the Pension that I now receive - as without it now I would be seriously f*cked financially - so point taken.

I will add to this post - you do not know what you have lost until its gone - as much as the lads and lasses have it harder nowadays with regards operational tours - I desperately miss the Army life in so many ways - but often think how I would cope knowing that I would be going to Afghanistan so often!!!!

Small says "AMAZING HOW GOVERNMENT CAN SEND YOUNG MEN TO A FIGHT AN ELEGAL WAR WHERE THEY ARE KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE AND THE ONE WHO SPEAKS OUT TO CONDEM IT IS LABELED AS THE BAD GUY. HISTORY REPEATS I REMEMBER MUHAMED ALI DOING THE SAME WITH THE VIETNAM WAR."

 using Ali`s stance against vietnam war is a bit of a red herring

Ali`s main reason for not going was the money he would potentially lose. There was as much chance of Ali being sent to the front line as it was him flying fighter jet planes ...

He is on interviews arguing his case to stay out of the army, stating the money his fights would generate would buy plenty bombs to drop on the viet cong ... its all there to be archived if anybody can be bothered.

He just built upon the gullible publics view that it was about him `having no quarrel with the viet-cong` as he realised it would keep him in the public eye so too make him a comfortable living also..

So for Small to try to hide behind this ... ... just shows he is an even bigger idiot than he has already shown himself to be

I think a lot of people are naive when it comes to the time frames surrounding peak oil, and the consequences will be mind bogglingly catastrophic if we don't have the time to develop a new way of life before the sh*t hits the fan. If every arabic and south american nation in the world needs to be pillaged in order to keep the wheels turning, so be it.

The alternatives to oil out there at the moment are a joke. We're entering a new era and it's all about how smoothly we transition.

It's not going to be some kind of communal utopia when the lights go out.

One of the very good reasons. :TU:

I believe people using the Ali comparison really are clutching at straws.

In addition it is my belief that Small is using all of this as a final attempt to get some attention because after the hype etc etc he has failed to live up to expectations - bless him he is one of those boxers who will be easily forgotten and sadly he now seeks to use religion for all of the wrong reasons.

that would be a valid argument if made for example about a restaurant.

But the idea that if a person doesn't like a country they should "go live somewhere else" is totally against the concept of a democracy.

No mate, not Muslims. I was talking about the Muslim extremists. I have Muslims in my family, they do not share this view at all, and they even know we have to get control of the resources. Do you think Ali down the corner shop wants the oil to run dry in the West? Or Mohamed who drives a taxi for a living? No, like us, money makes their world go round too.

Do you think these nations are going fairly trade with us in the West 'when the lights go out'? Are they fcuk! They will drive us into the ground. At least we put the wheels in motion to stabilize these bag of shite countries.

Just take a look around you and think just what do you need oil for? Everything in your sight right now has either been made with oil, or transported using oil. We are over reliant because there is no solid alternative as yet.

So would you be prepared to let your family go to shite for the sake of the moral high ground? No mate, I will not. Once they have control of the resources, they will start to take us Westerners out! Our way, is the fair way.

I would rather stay and try to improve my country. Perhaps you would scarper as soon as things were not to your liking, but not everyone reacts that way.

So far we know he has 4 personalities. He badly impersonates RJJ in ring, and protests like Ali out of it. His 3 one is Anthony Small, big time penis, and his 4th is as a Muslim extremist.

I have read everything about Muhammad Ali - and I have never read anywhere that his stance on Vietnam or being a muslim was anything but genuine. I am a bit thick so could you show me these links (from the man himself - not some two bob 'biographer' or one of his grabbing sidekicks) where Ali said he refused the draft for monetary reasons.. :TU:

Fortunately, down to his inability to "kick arse",upsetting promoters, the whole country, etc,we will never get to find out.Going on recent form, and proven results, its ridiculous to say he would have beaten Rhodes.I hope we dont see him in a ring again, and i felt that way long before this latest stunt.
