excellent mario veit interview....

Post by knockout »

http://www.boxing-central.com/modules.p ... e&sid=6085

some great quotes in there:

"Beyer and Ottke (both German world champions) avoided the toughest test: Calzaghe, or Salem. Ottke always ran away and trusted the judges in Germany. But even the great Dariusz Michalczewski lost on points on his home turf – unlike Ottke or Beyer. "

re calzaghe v magee cancellation
"The reason he had to cancel the fight was his promoter did not tell him he cannot put his title on the line because of WBO rules. Why didn’t his promoter win the purse bid? He didn’t offer enough money to stage the fight in Grat Britain. Why didn’t he offer more? Is Calzaghe not worth the money? I bet he is, because Calzaghe is the best supermiddleweight champion in the world. Doesn’t his promoter think so?"

Hey, that wouldn't be a surprise. I'm just waiting for odds to come out to see the price for a Veit points win.

Nah, as I said, the WBO make a mint off of Calzaghe, really think they see Veit as a big cash cow...?

I think it could go the distance however. I may have a punt on Calzaghe on points.

If the fight goes head Calzaghe will stop him. Veit record is not that great he never beaten anyone of note apart from a fading Brewer imo.

I dont know, I am one of the last bastions of support for Calzaghe, I see it only going three rounds, four at most. Fighters just dont change their stripes that much (although Witter seems to have), Calzaghe should still have his number, and Viet could not stop Salem, and fought an older Brewer. While in the same time Calzaghe has beaten Jiminez (21 wins and 1 loss at the time), Mitchell and a younger Brewer.

As for the cash cow Idea, well Ottke should not have pulled in the crowds, but did and Viet is more exciting than Ottke.

I like the idea of a fight with Lacy though, if Calzaghe was to be robbed he would most likely be forced into trying to make the big fights in the division for the sake of his own bank balance.

If Veit wins he will be Universums only german born world champ and his fights will most likely get high ratings on ZDF, I bet there is almost as good money in Viet as in Calzaghe for WBO , question is for how long.

Veit wont win Calzaghe knock him out. But if It goes to points who knows in Germany. The judging there probably the worst in the world. Its pretty bad here but nothing compared to there.

Will sky show the fight?

i agree with that and for all JC's pulling out etc, he is still a class act.
Just becuase he hasnt had a defining fight doesnt mean he wont take care of fringe contenders such as Veit.

That's my point. Veit is unlikely to retain it for long, Calzaghe probably still has a few profitable fights left for the WBO.

bubi, we've been over this a thousand times. It's nothing to do where the judges are from, it's the point that the person who promotes the contest is able to exert influence on them by showering them with hospitality bordering on bribery. Stop banging on about their nationality.

This is a problem of the sanctioning bodies and concerns the whole world. Controversial decisions occur in the whole world.

I think that they are just a bit better at getting away with it in Germany. Admittedly it is a global problem. I think the reason is seems worse in germany is that their fighters (like ours) always defend their titles at home. America it doesn't seem so bad, because although most American fighters fight on home soil, home in America isn't the country, it's the state your from. Texans consider themselves texan first, then American.

Some years ago it was said that in Italy they corrupt the judges etc.. It´s fornicating unfair to pick out a special country. If you pick out a country you should pick out the country where the betting mafia influences the sport.

It's not the betting mafia, it's the sanctioning body mafia, they are just there to collect paycheques and support their favourite promoter.

One of the things which can make a country more corrupt, is if the officials appointed for a particular sanctioning body in that country are on the take. The officials are the people who appoint the judges and the referee, and it is they who are open to persuasion. All it takes is a few corrupt sanctioning body appointees.

So only Sauerland and Kohl can corrupt foreign judges. The rest of the world (including Don King, the US beting mafia and HBO) is not able to influence judges. oh my god. i wonder how DM could lose his "record-fight" then though it was controversial. why did Beyer lose vs Sanavia? IMO he won the first fight..... you guys are just talking fornicating bullshit.
