I felt it was an entertaining fight, with a good balance, but wasn't the quality we could normally expect from a main event. Would have better suited as a main undercard bout etc..

I respect their fighting hearts but you cannot be that out of condition and call yourself a professional boxer. It is an insult to the greats gone by and those who work their bollocks off and don't get a quarter of what these two doughboys will be paid.

McDermott could blow three stone with a proper diet and be a good cruiser. Fury could lose two and a half stone and be a good prospect. Neither of them were in any sort of condition.

Your a disgrace :D

Disgrace is a bit over the top! The pair of them aren't world beaters, it was a good fight and good viewing in testing conditions

They were hardly athletic! Fury needs a proper trainer and new promotor.

I'm sure they could get in shape if they wanted it enough. I know if I had the skill to become a pro boxer and didn't have anything better to do than train everyday, I'd be in the right shape, the klits are both massive but there both in shape?!?

Tyson has a great chin and great handspeed; his potential should be enormous. But I think he will be lazy and fade by the side unfortunatley

Jeff, I know exactly what any layman watching that fight would've been saying and it would have involved the words: pies, all, ate, who, the and you, fat bastards. Young men aspiring for a career in sport should have the self-discipline to get in shape.

I agree that the fight was entertaining.

I did not expect Ali-Frazier.

:DD

It was what it was, kept me glued- don't think anyone on that bill would test Chisora. I'd like big Larry to take on Mcd next- relevant MATCHMAKING :OhYes:

You don't have to be Tyson or Holyfield to be in shape. Both Fury and McDermott are overweight and yet they are supposed to be high level professional athletes. Why can't they put some effort into their training, lay off the fast food, and come into the ring without fat jiggiling everywhere?

Fury was a disgrace... his corner nicking 5 seconds of the start of the round - kneeing McD in the head and taking McD in a clinch EVERY time McD landed.

He's won but he's lost a little too.

That was McDermotts first fight in 9 months, he must have a job also as I doubt he could live on boxing alone.

Even if they can't live on boxing alone, it is no excuse to show up in that kind of shape for a twelve round fight. To be that overweight means they are either stuffing their faces nonstop or not training properly. I go to school, work, and still manage to get to the gym five days a week and remain in good shape. I am an amatuer and only fight nine minutes total, so it amazes me when two professionals who get paid to be ready for thirty-six minutes of action show up looking like that.

I consider this to be a high level of boxing. They may not be world beaters, but there are about one thousand other heavyweights in the world who are ranked below them.

No but I expect to see guys turn up in condition. The lower weight fighters always put the effort in, why not the heavies? As the so called blue riband divison, they have a responsibilty to maintain the credibility of the sport. Someone on a basketball scholarship in a US university would get reamed if they tried turning up in that condition. A pro player would get sacked.
I agree with you 100%.

Let`s not forget that Fury is only 21 years old, so he has plenty of time to improve.

He has raw talent and size, but he needs a proper set up around him to get into proper shape, decent sparring and to get a s ense of proffesionalism.

I get this feeling that with his family so involved in his boxing, that he will not get the right advice.. Nothing against his family at all, but he would be better off distancing them from his career in my opinion.

I think Fury has lots of potential but is being held back by his family. I thought he would finally start to improve when he joined Brian Hughes, who I rate very highly, but Brian wasn't allowed to get on with his job because of Fury's Dad and uncle constantly sticking their noses in.

He needs to lose weight, get some decent sparring (like Hughes got him in Germany), tell his family to keep out of his career and get a good trainer.

McDermott's always been overweight, lazy, gutless and not particularily good. A bit harsh maybe but true.

I thought Fury looked in better shape than usual. Maybe it was just his tan! He has excellent potential, good speed and a great chin... but as per other posters; I think he has not got the right set up to make it.
