Tournaments this year

Post by Glovedup »

If you know a tournament coming up this year post it here. This will help fighters and coach prepare (physically, mentally and financially) for these upcoming events.

Also, let us know if you think it will be a well organized tournament and if its worth going.

Oxnard PAL Tournament,Oxnard,Ca.(June 10-13,2010)-Registration(Thursday,June10,2010)Competition(Friday,June 11,2010-Sunday,June 13,2010)
Contact:Terrell Henderson (805)385-8230

Desert Showdown Tournament,Coachella,Ca.(July 19-24,2010)
Registration(Monday & Tuesday July 19-20,2010)
Competition(Wednesday,July 21,2010-Saturday,July 24,2010)
Contact:Ralph Romero (760)399-4474 or (760)702-0206

I highly recommend both these tournaments,i consider the Desert Showdown a MUST tournament to go to as they have an open and novice for 9-34yr old, also they have a Masters Tournament, and this year he is having a 8 yr old only tournament which you never see,I go to this one yearly, each division recieves a belt.On top of that you can register your open male 17-34 to fight in the Saturday finale BCR Championship bout.An example is,my son,he's a open 165lber,I can put him in for that title bout,he wouldn't fight in the tournament,he would fight only on the Saturday Championship night for the BCR title, which if he wins he would defend next year.

For the Oxnard PAL, do you need to live in California to compete?

No. Unfortunately, this year, it's at the same time as the JO Championships. This might cut down the number of entries. And it might not. ;;-)

What two tournaments are you referring to? The June PAL is an invitational, open to everyone. The CAL PAL is NOT open to everyone.

Mel,you being from SoCal if figured would know that the Oxnard PAL Tournament changed it's status last year from being the CalPal to the Oxnard PAL National Invitational.Starting last year anyone could enter,in fact,Terrel personally told me he invited teams from around the country. Now this year I'm not sure about it being a so called "National" instead of a "CalPal",but I'm assuming so.

Nope, didn't know. According to our show sheet it says "CAL PAL State Open Tournament." That doesn't exactly state it's a "national invitational." :box:

We received an email at our gym in MD for last years. I had to explain to point out it was not the same National PAL that was historically held in Oxnard, but that one moved to San Antonio.

Maybe there should be a separation between the "open invitation (non-advancing)" and advancing tournaments. For instance, Silver Gloves, national JO, USA and Golden Gloves are all advancing from the local level. Title, Desert Showdown, Oxnard PAL, Black Gloves, and National PAL are all open to anyone who meets the tournament criteria.

so many tournaments. Im confused! :KO:

Just kidding. I think its good. But if your trying to get somewhere close to making Olympic Team then Id recommend the USA Qualifying Tournaments. You get Ranking points on those tournaments only. :TU:

The ranking tournaments are US Championships, Golden Gloves and National PAL. However, all the others give a boxer the experience needed to compete, and shine, at the elite level.
