Eddie Delic-Lincoln Stewart for the Victorian State Welterweight title at Vodaphone Arena, Melbourne on the Anthony Mundine-Lester Ellis undercard, 15/07/02. Eight rounds of fast, nonstop action ending in a lot of bloodshed and a draw. In all the fights I had watched that year this was by far the most exciting.

Calling it boring is a bit tongue in cheek. But it was like watching someone play a Boxing video game with no damage. Not a bit of drama in it. It didn't suck, but it's garbage compared to the internet wave that has made it spectacular. It sure as hell wasn't anything like Holyfield/Dokes or Moorer/Cooper just to name a few around the time frame.

Being perfectly honest, i prefer the two Maskaev/Rahman fights. That second one was one of my Boxing addiction PPV's that turned out to be nice. That fight fits the thread.

Charley Norkus-Danny Nardico I (arguably one of the greatest fights of all time . .in fact I have yet to see a Nardico fight that wasn't extremely entertaining)

Pacquao-Sasakul (Manny's first great win and a great come-from-behind knockout)

There are several fights between more journeyman-calibre opponents I've seen over the years that were great but I'm having problems remembering the names of the fighters . .


I don't see Golota-Bowe II as very 'two-sided" . . .Bowe has his moments in the 3rd and 4th rounds but sandwiching those is a one-sided beating. The fight is just not competitive enough for my liking.

Agree about Tua-Ike . . .for an old-fashioned clubbing battle with no knockdowns I definitely prefer Witherspoon-Mercer.

The 2 best British fights I've seen are
Crawford Ashley vs Nicky Piper
Mark Hobson vs Enzo Maccarinelli

Both were close wars that went to the cards and the judges actually managed to get the scores right.

Andy Holligan vs Shea Neary was a great six rounds of action before Holligan ran out of gas.
Johanneson vs Mitchell was also a absolute cracker, even if the stoppage was possibly a bit premature.

Roberto Duran vs Ray Lampkin...Was a hell of a fight.
Muhammad Ali vs Zora Folley...Ali was in trouble for a couple of rounds, and then, like a great champion, solves the puzzle
Muhammad Ali vs Bob Foster...It is a great example of a great big man fighting a great little man.

A completely under-done Benitez shows up, is hampered by a severe cut for a good two-thirds of the fight, & then is on the wrong end of a BS stoppage? Not taking anything from Leonard directly here, he did his best all night, but how was this a great fight?

It was a great fight because both fighters showed great skills of defensive mastery. It is the same fight as McCallum vs Toney I. Sugar Ray graduated that night. Benitez was in great shape for this fight. The last round was a classic.

I would have love to see Duran vs Benitez then, than the boring fight of 1982.

I have always heard benitez didn't even walk into the gym until 2 weeks before the fight. Probably kept his weight down with blow.

Curry/Brooks was a good shout though. i remember seeing that after the local news when I wasl young. Probably was a Friday Night. I think Bobby Cassidy was on the undercard.

I would throw in Jake Lamottas first fight with "Irish" Bob Murphy in which he was stopped.
Also the fight with Danny Nardico where he also was stopped.
These fights kinda fly under the radar a bit.
Jake had a great chin no doubt but he didnt hear the final bell in these two.
