McBride signs to fight Tyson

I read in the paper today that McBride has signed to fight Tyson. This will be the worst fighter that Tyson has ever faced and I for one will NOT be purchasing it. McBride is terrible... really terrible. It's a very sad state of affairs and the worst thing is, when Tyson KO's McBride the Tyson fans will be telling us how he is getting back to his best etc.

McBride was ment to fight him beofre, but didnt it fall through and danny williams took his place?

They replaced him with Williams, probably because he was seen as a better boxer who wanted less money to be supposedly pummelled

The worst thing is if Tyson actually lost to McBride they'd still try and sell another comeback.

I wouldn't be surprised if even McBride beat him.

Tyson is nothing but a sideshow now, he has Zero chance of winning a title.

This will be the test of that. Obviously real boxing fans won't.

But after being handled by Danny Williams who was in turn battered by VK.

Will the casual fan finally recognise Tyson is finished? Will he be totally disregarded by the mainstream?
I think maybe he will. Time will tell.

I fear Tyson will end up getting brutally KO'd by one of these guys. Against Lewis and Williams he basically quit, or was battered into submission you could say. I think one of his inevitable future KO losses has a chance of being by clean knockout. You wouldn't think it would happen to Sonny Liston, but it did. Same story with Tyson, I can see him getting sparked by one of these big giant Heavy's nowadays, guys he would have KO2'd in his late 80's heyday.

McBride is possibly the weakest opponent Tyson has faced in nearly 20 years!!!! With the only possible exception being McNeeley.

McBride is big, strong and game, but is also very slow and easy to hit. He 'should' be made for the shell of Tyson, but if Tyson doesn't get him out of there inside 3 rounds who knows what will happen?

I agree Manos de Oro the way Tyson is fading he is heading for a brutal KO loss, and soon.

Jesus, McBride is just a big, plodding, easy-to-hit paddy. Remember Frank Maloney trying to push him on the British stage a few years back.

The worst thing is, on various American boards some are acknowldeging McBride as a legitimate challenge to Tyson.

If Tyson cannot beat McBride he'd just as well take up darts.

god, when he ko's mcbride just prepare yourself for the barrage of "If Mike trained right... could he win a title??" threads. I'd be a lot happier for Tyson making money etc if the press would just let him get on with it and stop recycling him as a real force at heavyweight. Its over.

PHOENIX — The comeback trail, Mike Tyson's longest journey, starts all over again this week at the Central Boxing Gym for a possible fight in June.

"This is home," said a relaxed Tyson, who returned to the old gym in Phoenix with a new trainer in former featherweight champ Jeff Fenech and some newfound hope at resurrecting a career that was seemingly halted last summer by a loss to unknown Danny Williams.

Tyson and Fenech, an Australian, mentioned two possible opponents: Irish fighter Kevin McBride (32-4-1, 27 KOs) of Brockton, Mass., and Bob Mirovic (25-14-2, 16 KOs) of Australia.

McBride was supposed to be Tyson's opponent last July, but he was replaced by Williams because McBride wanted more money than promoters were willing to pay.

For Tyson (50-5, 44 KOs), the switch was costly. The former heavyweight champ lost in the fourth round and suffered a knee injury that required surgery. "The knee is fine," said Tyson, who said his next fight will probably be in Washington, D.C.

Tyson's next fight is one step in a plan to reduce his debt. Fenech, who replaces Freddie Roach as his trainer, said he hopes to keep him busy.

"I'd like to fight in June and then again in August," said Tyson, who has fought only four times since a bout with Andrew Golota in October 2000 was recorded as no-contest.

If he can get his career back on track, rich possibilities include James Toney and even a third fight with Evander Holyfield, who lost part of his ear on the infamous night when Tyson bit him.

At a Muhammad Ali fundraiser on Saturday in Arizona, Holyfield, 42, said he did not plan to retire.

"Tyson is the best fight out there for me," said Holyfield, who has lost his last three fights.

Tyson, 38, welcomed the news, but with one caveat.

"Tell Evander that both of us have got to start winning a few fights first," said Tyson, who is 2-2 over his past four.

McBride is awful but he is MUCH better than McNeeley.

I'll be very surprised if it goes ahead soon, Tyson cancels or postpones more fights thank Sicknote.

When Tyson batters McBride, watch the publicity machine going into overdrive. If he is managed correctly, he'll beat up on another couple of stiffs and then get a title shot which some people will think he'll win.

Tyson will KO Mc Bride or he wouldn't be going in there

However, the truth is they will keep putting him in against low grade fighters, but will, as they did with Williams, underestimate someone and he will get his ass handed to him on a plate as he did in that fight

Tyson's time is done

Was he the greatest? Patently not. has he provided more column inches than just about any other fighter, for better or worse? Of course.

History will view him as it views Liston. A victim.

What I find humorous is that this is PPV in the U.S. with the co-feature being Laila Ali vs. Erin Toughill (what happened to Letitia Robinson as an opponent -- I suppose her first round KO over Nunez changed Ali's mind). I thought Barrera-Fana was a bad PPV, but this easily beats it.

McBride looked terrible in his last fight against Kevin Montiy and the ESPN commentators kept saying that he probably had little chance against the present-day Tyson, all things considered. If he's smart, he'll basically try to employ the John Ruiz style for at least the first few rounds, then try to connect with some of those big shots. If he comes out swinging in the first, it won't last two rounds.

Maybe we'll get it free here. I still love watching Tyson fights, best over 1round in HW boxing, most exciting at HW, incredible skill and power, just no stamina, Tyson still has a punchers/early chance against anyone, but he is vulnerable to anyone who survives the early onslaught.

I still actually think Mike Tyson can have a bearing on the devision, a fit and trimmed Mike Tyson. He showed that he can still get to near old fighting weight back in 2003. The more I watch Williams vs Tyson (and I gave Williams a big chance before hand) the more I think how Williams was close to being flatternd by Tyson and how much the injury effected Mike's power - more than fatigue. Tyson still can hit hard when out of it (ask Frans Botha).

This fight is a joke match no doubt, I think McBride is on a par (if not worse) than Peter McNeeley and I think this fight will go much the same way. However, I am interested in Tyson's career still. He still has the intrigue for me and is still the most exciting fighter on this planet, if not no longer the best.

Williams vs Tyson was one of the best Heavyweight fights I have seen in years.
