John Murray calls out Amir Khan and Michael Katsidis

Post by nigeltsport »

John Murray goes back into the gym on Monday to start training for his European title defence against Andrei Kudriatsev but told Hatton TV that after that he wants either Amir Khan or Michael Katsidis.
On Amir he says:

"Its not who he's beat, its who he's avoided to get to the top, I really think that. He's bought that world title of his and has been very very clever about the opponents he's hand-picked to fight and with me he's got someone who is young, strong and ambitious and I think when he sees me across the ring, if it ever comes off, the realisation will set in that he's in with a young hungry fighter who'll take that title off him."

Unbeaten Manchester hope John Murray defends his European lightweight title against mandatory challenger Andrei Kudriavtsev of the Ukraine in September.
Murray won the title with a late stoppage of gutsy Welshman Gary Buckland in Widnes in May to take his record to 29-0 (17). At 25 he looks set for a glittering reign, with only Dagenham's Kevin Mitchell really threatening his European supremacy, although Mitchell was brushed aside in London last month by Aussie tough guy Michael Katsidis for the WBO title, a man Murray has since 'called out'.
Firstly comes the unheralded Kudriatsev, who brings over a deceptive 33-7 (14) record, having lost five of his first nine fights, and challenged for the same title last year in France against French holder Anthony Mezaache and was controversially outscored by a man who subsequently relinquished to protect a high world ranking, allowing Murray and Buckland to face-off for the vacant title. The 33-year-old Kudriavtsev has 'lost' only to Mezaache in his last 10 outings, a man he had previously outscored in a non-title encounter in Monaco. Second time around he outworked the defensive-minded Mezaache and really was jobbed of the European belt on a night when our own Colin Lynes was also jobbed against Souleymane MBaye for the European title at light-welterweight. You know, Kudriavtsev has lost only to Mezaache and one-time 'hot' Namibian Paulus Moses in his last 31 outings. He is not the mandatory by chance.
Nevertheless, the punch-a-second Murray has bigger fish to fry and overwhelmed Norfolk banger Jon Thaxton quite recently, a man who had also looked unlucky to drop the points to that man Mezaache, and looks too young, hungry and busy for Kudriavtsev, although we can expect the seasoned visitor to stick around.
Yes, Murray retains on points.

I know what he is getting at, but its not Khan's fault if he is well connected is it ? Maybe John could do with better people representing him to get the fights he wants. Having said that I can believe that Murray could beat Amir even at the heavier weight, but Katsidis is a more realtistic opponent - imo

Sorry thats one conspiracy theory too far ! We have never restricted ourselves to just Hatton boxers on Hatton TV. The site is aimed at providing boxing news from anyone & anywhere, which is why we have done loads of stuff with David Haye, Carl Froch etc in the past and will continue to feature other fighters in the future.
