FWP Promotions: Whats changed?

Post by Jeff Thomas »

OK great, the upcoming show looks a good one. Not PPV worthy for me but thats just my opinion. So whats changed? There was the big (drum roll)'we're showing boxing on Saturday' announcement followed conveniently by what can only be described as a very pro FWP cover by boxing news this week, with the words 'MAGNIFICENT' scrawled across it.

So whats changed for FWP, whats brought on this sudden delivery of so many big fights that were been held back? Burns-Martinez, Simpson-Appleby, plus this big domestic bill! Obviously i'm pleased but just intrigued as to what might have brought about such a radical move of delivering interesting domestic matches by them.

Can I also add, as I know they will be reading. 16 fight marathon bills are terrible and you would be better served providing 4 good matches and a couple of decent undercard fights rather then having a fan sitting there for 7 hours of drivel. :TU:

Do you think anything has changed for FWP or are they just rewrapping last years christmas presents?

Whose moaning, i've said its a good bill? And it is a very good one. Is it worthy of PPV- not in my opinion but thats probably because I grew up watching Benn, Eubank, Naz, Tyson, De La Hoya, Mayweather, Chavez, Lennox Lewis etc for free. The idea of paying £15 pound on top of the £40 I already pay, to watch a few prospects and a few title fights that would be free with any other promoter is a piss take.

The point of the thread was to investigate if this was the start of a new attitude for domestic boxing from W arren and co. If it is brilliant, whats led to this change?

Your hyper sensative aren't you if this kind of thing has got you emotional.

Yeah the good old days -Benn and Eubank on ITV and Naz for the early fights and Lennox Lewis fought on the BBC.

Even Roy Jones V Clinton Woods and De La Hoya V Vargas repeats were on BBC the next day.

Quality boxing for free.

Times change guys and it's very sad I agree BUT this is not the promoters faults, It's down to our countries broadcasters who just don't view boxing as important anymore!! Disgraceful!! BBC & ITV should be showing some form of boxing it's as simple as that, Even if it was the big events they could purchase them for buttons from the states!! :witzend:

 The only thing shitter that we have ever had to pay for is The KHAN shower of shite.

Thats not a slight on the fighters at all - some cracking lads on the bill, not sure how the whole thing works but somewhere in the whole scheme of things there is a bit of a piss take going on.

Its Magnificent 7 Jeff, reflecting the 7 title fights and 7 images of the fighters. the 7 shows up better in print. and the cover is not pro-Warren, it's pro-the story which is easily the best in British boxing this week and, as shown by this thread, has people talking. b4 the announcement Fury would have got the cover but would that make BN pro-Fury? we try to reflect what fans r talking about

On the night it will be

Macklin Vs some dude from Kyrgyzstan
Cleverly Vs some dude from Pontefract
Gavin Vs Woodhouse (I think this one will keep)
DeGale Vs some dude from the Outer Hebrides
Broadhurst Saunders and Sanders in 6 x 3s

Chisora-Sexton scrapped
Brook v Jennings has always been doomed

Seriously, I'm as excited as anyone by this ANNOUNCEMENT, but they always look good when the tickets go on sale, don't they. Remember the Cleverly/Williams-Sexton/Jennings-Brook/Chisora-Skelton bill only a few months ago...

Chisora-Sexton in particular is a bit of a silly match to make at this stage.

There either going to disqualify Chisora from potential world class- or finish Sexton as a potential prospect. Daft move. The first fight was well timed, both have regrouped well- why meet now when on the cusp of big things.

Put Chisora in with Sprott and Sexton in with Skelton - change the guard! Bring them up together and match them when they are on the fringes of world class.

I agree Jeff, but on here we are always saying we want the prospects to clash, rather than avoid each other, such as Groves-DeGale. Do you see this one as different?

This is the exact thinking that has prevented a slew of big British fights taking place.

'Let's match them when they get to world class', what if they aren't world class, will never get to world class and lose to an import as they are building the 20+ fight run needed to build a domestic fight?

Get it on now before it goes tits up. That is the lesson learned from the light-middleweight debacle, when we waited for the guys to hit top-level on to watch as they all lost in fights they were mostly expected to win.
Agree 100% with this.
