Paul Graham - promoter
Paul Graham - promoter
How on earth has this mug got a promoters license!!!!
Bent as a nine-bob note as a referee so god knows what he will be like now. Hope his shows go down the pan as I cant see many boxers wanting to fight as the 'away' fighter with this farce of an individual involved!!!

Re: Paul Graham - promoter
To be fair none of our gym will go to scotland any more wev refused a few fights and hes one of the reasons.
Re: Paul Graham - promoter
I saw the most disgraceful decision in my life from this particular individual on a show with no cameras/filming allowed.
It was a St Andrews show where Graham was reffereeing a bout in which he gave Charlie King a decision when he got absolutely battered from pillar to post. It stank the place out and everyone was very very embarassed.
It affected the career on the 'lost' boxer whom got the cheers and applause of the crowd but thats not on the record is it. King went on to fight for the Commonwealth title and was easily beat. He should not have got that chance.
Hope his shows are a massive failure.

Scotland has always been a tough place to get a fair go, I boxed there once and there was no way i'd go back
Re: Paul Graham - promoter

you make it sound like trying to get a decision in germany or texas
Re: Paul Graham - promoter
It's far harder in Scotland, all Scottish fighters tend to be unbeaten unless they venture down southAlba wrote:Coco wrote:Scotland has always been a tough place to get a fair go, I boxed there once and there was no way i'd go back

I wish Paul luck, i'm sure he isn't dishonest. He isn't a great ref obviously as he is unable to read a fight while reffing it, but thats as much the boards fault as it is his. Taking no chances with that bill I see. Martin Ward is pretty decent actually.

Rubbish. The refs up here adhere to the same rules and regulations that refs down south/wales/north of ireland. You get bad refs down south with ridiculous decisions like the mcdermott/fury decision.
Re: Paul Graham - promoter
Ask managers and trainers countrywide wheres the hardest place to get a win in Britain its not a coincdince they all say Scotland.
The fighters feel it as well no one in our gym will go to scotland any more and these are guys who have fought all over.

I have my fight, johnny rocco's fight and the Prizefighter they did up there that all coincide with your thoughts. Scots are super patriotic so perhaps thats what it is.jonp wrote:Ask managers and trainers countrywide wheres the hardest place to get a win in Britain its not a coincdince they all say Scotland.

I would imagine not one of these "dodgy" decisions came from Victor loughlin though, he is a top referee and judge in my opinionJeff Thomas wrote:I have my fight, johnny rocco's fight and the Prizefighter they did up there that all coincide with your thoughts. Victor is really good, I was ring side for Simpson-Truscott 2 and he was fantastic throughout. Didn't panic with the cuts, was strict but respectful to both boxers calling them by their first names I think. He's definately one of the best refs in the country- might even be the best. Always says hi to me at shows too- may have reffed one of my fights in the past I think but can't remember, perhaps the Ricky Burns one.jonny wrote:I would imagine not one of these "dodgy" decisions came from Victor loughlin though, he is a top referee and judge in my opinionJeff Thomas wrote:I have my fight, johnny rocco's fight and the Prizefighter they did up there that all coincide with your thoughts. Re: Paul Graham - promoter
so if you had a fighter in your gym who you thought was good enough to win a title fight ,but you had to go to scotland to fight a scotsman you wouldent take the fight ,because its hard to get a decision ?jonp wrote:Ask managers and trainers countrywide wheres the hardest place to get a win in Britain its not a coincdince they all say Scotland.

or if you had a journeyman who was asked to fight an up and comer in scotland ,you wouldent take that fight either?
Re: Paul Graham - promoter
If it was a title id look where it is was being held done it before and the guy got beat fair and square ,but if it was at one of the (not allowed to film or bring cameras in) venues then no we wouldnt, if it was a big title we would because its diffrent refs and its more in the eye of the public.Alba wrote:so if you had a fighter in your gym who you thought was good enough to win a title fight ,but you had to go to scotland to fight a scotsman you wouldent take the fight ,because its hard to get a decision ?jonp wrote:Ask managers and trainers countrywide wheres the hardest place to get a win in Britain its not a coincdince they all say Scotland.

We have took journymen up and like i say after since the last time we came we have had offers and the lads are just turning them down we havnt been up in a few months.
Im realy sorry if this offends you but iv said the same to the two main promoters up in Scotland.
I used to come up quite regular, but it would take a major title fight and the promise of neutral judges to get any lads from my gym to accept a fight now.

ill put it this way jon ,i think its a bit far fetched...but that is my opinion .And i don't run a gym with fighters or do there corner so you have more of an educated opnion than me, so i respect that mate.
one thing i will say is that paul is doing something that could take off as we dont have any "small hall shows" on a sunday afternoon and the work well down south ,so why not up here.
As for the "main two promoters" they have most of the fighters up here ,but in my opnion there dinners shows ruin boxing as they keep it behind close doors and you cant get into see them unless you wear a suit adnf pay £150 a ticket ...
Re: Paul Graham - promoter
Good to have a nice friendly debate for once ,and i hope the shows take off but its those very dinner shows with no cameras that have put my guys off. Even journymen if they have done enough deserve a chance and its got to the stage where lads dont think its worth going over the border because its very hard to get a win.
A scottish reporter brian Donald actualy made a point of saying how bad a few decisions were on some of the shows and dont know wether its a coincidence but he hasnt done any reporting last few times i was there.
Iv chatted to a couple of officials wile iv been up there timekeepers and the like and even they say sometimes they are embarrised by some of the decisions being given out.
To be perfectly honest its hard to get a decision any where on the road but scotland may seem worse because youv travelled so far![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

jon's a Midlands-based manager, Messer's a midlands-based ref, i am guessing he feels the need to have some tact and diplomacy Chris
