Maybe so but I dont think a British showdown with Murray is on Khans agenda. The only British fights Khan took in the past were against fighters he had a good chance of beating.
Re: Jon Thaxton tells John Murray - go for Amir Khan
I don't see how Murray could seriously hope to fight Khan for the title. One problem is that Murray is a weight below Khan.... The other is he has a poop promoter...

Problem #3 Khan would muller him.tonyevs wrote:I don't see how Murray could seriously hope to fight Khan for the title. One problem is that Murray is a weight below Khan.... The other is he has a poop promoter...

Murray would have been a match for Khan around the time Khan was fighting the likes of Gomez, but not now !!!
Khan has moved up several notches since then and would stop Murray quite easily. Khan is a class above Murray
Harsh but true i think
Re: Jon Thaxton tells John Murray - go for Amir Khan
Add that John Murray doesn't seem to have beaten anyone good enough to really class him as a World Level Contender.tonyevs wrote:I don't see how Murray could seriously hope to fight Khan for the title....
He's good domestic level, but at the moment our domestic level is way below world contender level.

your not being serious are you?
A quick review of how Murray has somewhat stagnated the last 2yrs ...and what his promoter has done...or failed to do with his other top guys should be enough to convince even the most biased observer...

I believe Murray is out of contract with Hennessy this Autumn. So perhaps that creates an opportunity foir someone ??
Re: Jon Thaxton tells John Murray - go for Amir Khan
Khan once said he mullered Murray in sparring, then had to backtrack and admit it was a case of mistaken identity. It was quite funny.
Re: Jon Thaxton tells John Murray - go for Amir Khan
we've heard all this about kevin mitchell being a class above murray (until a few weeks ago), and now its khan.charlieb wrote:Problem #3 Khan would muller him.tonyevs wrote:I don't see how Murray could seriously hope to fight Khan for the title. But the people behind him haven`t done alot for him to either prove or disprove these claims.Counter-puncher wrote:we've heard all about Murray being a wasted talent world champion p4p great in waiting for years now *sigh*
Murray seems to have been around for ever. But is a young guy. Sadly he seems to have to shake off the ring-rust almost every fight he has taken lately. How is this going to help him as the guys he must now face are that bit better than the last? his promoter should be getting him regular fights - how is the kid to keep his enthusiasm and build upon the new things he is learning if its too long a gap between fights
At this moment in time - I`d put my money on Khan having an easy night with Murray. Murray would take too long to get going, and when/if he did, it would probably be too late.

Re: Jon Thaxton tells John Murray - go for Amir Khan
Khan may be a few notches above Murray in skill department but he is not in the chin department. I don't care what Roach has taught Khan and how amazing his skills have become (which they really haven't judging by the number of times Paulie was able to connect) I just need to think back to what Limond was able to do to know that anyone with even the remotest amount of power can take him out. Murray can bang a bit and has a solid chin. As long as he was standing in the 12th even if Khan had won every round up until that point (which would be a strong possibility) it would still be a 50/50 fight.

I think Murray should go his own route. It did Junior know good persuing Hatton, as it was quite obvious Hatton wanted no part of him, and it would have taken Junior to become a world superstar before Hatton would have stepped in with him.It seems to be the same here, althoguh i get the impression that Khan would fight him, but I think John Murray needs to win a big title or flatten a big name to force the issue.I'd love for him to beat Katsides. That would make a noise, particularly if he were to do it in strong fashion.
Re: Jon Thaxton tells John Murray - go for Amir Khan
No disrespect to him, but I'm not so sure, as yet, what is so special about Murray. His first notable fight at title level was for the British, where he well beat Lee Meager, who never seemed quite "in it" and has never boxed sinse.
but a decent, solid, win.
Likewise, a decent win against the capable McAllister, and against Lawton, another decent win against a capable, but not great, opponent. The same could be said of the end-of-career Thaxton, and Buckland.
5 fighters who were decent, came to win, but all really (at this point in their careers) domestic title level at best.
They could do with matching Murray against a more know World Level challenger/contender, then we would get a better idea how good he was.

Murray should stay at European level for at least two more fights. Maybe even then Murray wouldn't be ready to compete at world level.
Kevin Mitchell was stepped up way too early, in my opinion, and he half got shown up. I fear the same could happen with Murray.
Going in with a lightweight or two who have fought for world honours, or who are maybe slightly on the wane, would do Murray the world of good.
