Carl Froch vs Henry Porras

Post by josh fg »

does anyone know anything about Henry Porras he is scedualed to fight froch this month can't say I have heard much about him although his record on boxrec looks okay. You have to respect hiim for doing it on the other guys terms aswell. http://www.hennessysports.com/Article.asp?art=169

The only thing I know about Henry was that he was once (or maybe twice) on standby to fight Calzaghe.

Well I guess that reflects ether well on froch for fighting someone who calzageh deemed good enough in his 15th fight, badly on calzageh for taking an opponent who is more appropriate for a 14 fight novice or both :s thoughts?

I hope he makes good on his commitment not to fight for bogus titles.

I really hope he includes the WBO super middle belt in that list of bogus titles. Really dont see why he seems to be aiming for Sicknote as opposed to going for one of the genuine champs. Sicknote and Allegedly have devalued that WBO belt so much its as bad a WBU/F IMO.

to be fair, Froch is borderline abusive with his public rants and if we were in Tonys position we would probably feel exactly the same...

As a neutral observer i for one believe Tonys injuries were genuine on all three occasions...

First off you only have to look at Tonys record to see he will step up to the plate... he has fought a number of undefeated fighters in his career...

Second the purse he would have got against Froch was huge, 60% of £65k for a brit defence is BIG money...

I dont doubt they were genuine injuries. Would be good to settle it in the ring!! Froch does like to run his mouth but I doubt he means any of it he's just trying to sell tickets I guess.

I hear your comming back soon Tony is that true, who is it against?

I assume you want a couple of fights to shake off the rust, how many fights would it take you befor you are willing to fight froch in my oppinion that would be one of the best fights in a british ring.

The more I hear boxers pull out of fights intentionally (for being scared etc) the less I believe it.

For example, listening to Ricky Hatton last week on the BBC (who many people have suggested crazy reasons for pulling out of fights) you could see how adamant and frustrated he was at his missed opportunities over the last few years and how much he is looking forward to the Tszyu fight.

I see and hear a similar situation with a very frustrated Tony Dodson here. From a non-boxers point of view if somebody is brave enough to step into a ring to fight then why would they avoid anyone, especially considering some of Tony’s past opponents and victories.

Admittedly Carl Froch (who I enjoy watching and supporting despite his cocky attitude) is (probably) mouthing off to create publicity but it is very annoying to see non-boxers criticise fighters for pulling out of fights for reasons which are obviously very wide of the mark 99% of the time.

Anyway, good luck with your future fights Tony Dodson. It would be cool if the BBC could show some of them too!

I agree the 99% of the time the reasoning is geniune and correct and that there is NO WAY a fighter should do a Tapia and fight when not 100%. This game is too dangerous for that.

However, on the downside there is that 1% that does need some criticisms. I don't know the exact outcomes of the Jaun Lazcano incident at the weekend but he deserves some criticisms. Even if there was some contractual problem, man it was only Justin Juuko - 3 rounds and it would have been over.

Whilst the tabloids should be taken with a big pinch of salt it is very hard not to be frustrated at the events leading up to the cancelation of Joe Calzaghe's biggest fight (vs Johnson).

However, 99% of cases there is some reason which is 1) either a geniune illness or injury or 2) out of the fighters control. Then these should not be faced with criticisms. I am always prepared to side with the caution if a fight is cancelled but incidents like seeing Gary Lockett jumping up and down when he is supposed to be nursing a bad back makes it hard not to sometimes doubt the problem. Perhaps Lockett had some geniune other reasons why the bout couldn't go ahead (promotional, who knows?). However, might have been better if he would have been more honest and not give clear signs that his back was fine.

However, these are just the minority of instances and unfortunately they are the ones get highlighted because unfortunately a post such as "Tony Dodson is geniunally injured and cannot fight Foch" will not generate the replies as "Dodson pulls out with a week to go".

Most of these guys have had near to (if not over) 100 amateur contests. They hurt and for most of the bouts they have no championship and you don't get paid. If you can stick that part of the game and then decide "I like this, I am going to make it my job" then your not going to have much fear.

Sicknote is an altogether different case, the amount of delays and cancellations he's had over the years have been ridiculous he'd be in a wheelchair if all those 'injuries' were genuine.

Froch could be the shittest boxer in the world for all I care, but despite the fact that I hate his attitude, he has the BBC behind him (or has done) and is just using his wild mouth to gain publicity. It's working though isnt it? Not everyday people start slagging off champions when they're still pretty new to the game. Suddenly people are starting to think "Ooh, Froch VS Calzaghe, that might be interesting seeing as this Froch thinks he's a bit special."

Out of interest, are you looking to go straight into a top of the bill fight? , or are you wanting to take some mark time fights?, just to shake off some rust and get used to being back in the ring.

topper,

Tony said on another thread that he wanted a few relatively non-risk warm up to get the rounds in.

Its hard to get fights full stop.

Dean has been itching to fight anyone - pretty much regardless of level) since January (according to his website).

Now scheduled to fight Mr TBA in May, thats a fairly long wait.

The TV is going down (signs of a pick up now) and that means less shows or certainly less fighters per show.
