The Best Of The Worst...

Post by Goodnight, Irene »

If you're like me, you've posted on many boards over many moons. I first signed up on BoxingFanatics a full ten years ago, & have seen many opinions of differing individuals & quality.

Let's have some fun & name some of the stand-out worst you've ever heard or seen on the boards. There are a couple which stand out forever with me, & probably many beautifully bad which sadly don't.

"Joppy lost because of the ring!"

Some joker on SecondsOut made pages out of this argument when Will Joppy was battered by Felix Trinidad. He literally outlined some case about the ring being the primary issue for Joppy's loss.

"Close fight, but I see Tommy Hearns beating Jack Dempsey in a firefight."

I kid you not, this was the legitimate contention of some foolio on the MaxBoxing boards. This a head-to-head match, btw, not pound-for-pound. Literally, 147lb. Hearns steps into the ring & beats Heavyweight champ Jack Dempsey. It wasn't tongue-in-cheek, because this guy was absolutely known for his stupidity. Still one of the most amazing predictions I've ever witnessed. After that, it wasn't so hard for me to see why this bloke thought his idol, Evander Holyfield, "would KO little Dempsey in two rounds"

That's nuts, Tommy would have to use his speed and movement to outbox Dempsey. A firefight wouldn't favor him at all.

I wish I could show you the thread. It was Rainman-level genius. Like watching Dustin Hoffman trying to determine how much change he'd get, when that psychiatrist is testing him.
