Who will be DeGale's top 5 ranked British opponent?

Post by Horse »

TOP FIVE OPPONENT FOR CHUNKY

James DeGale is likely make the first defence of his WBA International super-middleweight title on September 18 against a ranked British opponent.

Promoter allegedly is expected to confirm a challenger within the next seven days.

Former British title challengers Tony Dodson and Tony Quigley are believed to be in the frame.
1. Carl Froch
2. Brian Magee - European
3. Paul Smith - British
4. George Groves - Commonwealth
5. Tony Quigley

Dodson isn't a top 5 ranked opponent, so it should be Quigley, which I think would be a very good fight for DeGale at this stage.

be someone who's been inactive or coming of a loss...probably both :TU:

look how easy a middleweight destructed sam horton & degale was landing full bloodied for 6 rds :o

would he be matched with anderson, david or salam's of this world....no way :!: groves aint even worth mentioning, as i even think groves knows he can talk & talk & it wont happen.

If it's Quigley then it'll be a great fight for him, an excellent test at this stage. Also hopefully Quigley will put in a good performance as I find it hard to remember his cracker against Dodson when his name is mentioned and the Smith fight pops into my brain

Quigley or Dodson will definitely be good fights for him at this stage.

DeGale-Quigley would be an excellent scrap. Good to see there putting him in with good domestic fighters and that there not scared to rush him or any of the Olympians for that matter

degale is demanding to fight top 5 opposition, frank would probs have him fighting journeyman otherwise.

I'm not surprised Quigley turned it down.. he would have got destroyed and he knows it. Serious lack of balls though.

It said his manager turned it down not Quigley himself. Anyway, i'd imagine he's got more balls than you. :TU:

Surely Quigley has a right of veto?

Turning down a fight with DeGale is a pretty dumbass move from his manager.... he's hardly acting in his best interests here.

THe manager acts in the interest of the fighter. The fighter has the power to tell his manager what he wants. Quigley has decided he doesn't want any of Degale. And we all know he would lose so its a good decision.

Apparently the money on offer wasn't right, so in that sense he is acting in his best interests.
Anyway, it wasn't the fact you think he'd lose, it was you saying he lacked balls. For anyone to say someone lacks balls who fights for a living is wrong.

quigley stepped in as a sub against an extremely in shape dodson & with stood an assault & hung in there & pulled it out the bag in the 12th & took the fight to paul smith, you talk nonsense mate.

the lads been inactive & probably not in shape & is being drafted in as cannon fodder on the cheap :!: it's bad buisness for wood to make this happen, had he been active, fit & looking good it wouldnt happen :!:
wazza wont make the smith fight b'coz degale aint ready yet, it aint about them being with the same promoter :!: ..well abit but mainly b'coz smith would be too much.

what suggest's this??

on paper & pedigree wise, but the dodson who prepared for magee is a diffrent kettle of fish.

the pro's is a buisness, catching people at the right time, lowering there chances of victory by making them cut weight, giving them short notice, getting them in off a loss etc.

seeing degales last opponent who he had to batter for 6rds to get the stoppage, get outclassed in 1 by a middleweight dont get me excited too much on degales strengths.he's a talent as not many defeat cubans to claim an olympic gold.im not saying he aint ready for stiff opposition yet, but to underate the pro's in the fashion you have is an exageration.

degale could of got horton out of there when ever he wanted, but what would he learn from a 1 round blow out, he tried out some of the moves hes learning in the gym then when he wanted he stopped him

Sven Ottke got in with some dangerous men.

Markp....can't respect an opinion that questions a fighters nuts, notably someone like Quigley who has had some hard fights.
