Nathan Cleverly: Murat or Erdei?

Post by nh1 »

We all know that Nathan Cleverly is supposed to be fighting Karo Murat as part of the Magnificent Seven bill in September...

So can anyone explain the EBU notice below which has appeared on the BBBoC website this morning?

I know Nathan was originally down to fight Zsolt Erdei as an EBU defence, but assumed he must have relinquished his belt when the WBO Interim chance came along with Murat...

EBU Light-Heavyweight Title
Nathan Cleverly vs Zsolt Erdei

Dear Sirs,
We inform you that, on request of allegedly Promotion and with the agreement of all the involved parties, the expiration date of the purse offers for the above mentioned European championship is extended to Thursday 22nd July 2010 at 12noon (instead of the 15th).

However, if before such a date we receive the contracts duly signed by all parties, the purse offers will be declared null and void.

Yours sincerely,
Jacoponi, General Secretary

probably delaying the purse bids in case the other fight doenst happen so that theres still at least the euro strap still for cleverly , doesnt mean that hes likely to fight erdei , who incidently may be too much too soon for cleverly anyway .

Isn't Erdei the WBO champion anyway??? I thought he was retiring (or considering it) - I always thought Brahmer was just the interim champion in his own right.

All very confusing.

Given the pattern of Cleverly's career, who is a good un no doubt, he will fight Murat. Heaven forbid he actually faces a defending champion.

Think Braehmer became full champ when Erdie stepped up to CW to challenge for Fragomeni's titles.

Braehmer is the champ but was sentenced to around 16-18 months for assault in Jan this year, he launched an appeal hence he is still fighting, German system is strange and its all a bit up in the air.

He defends against Lakatos this Saturday 17th July and with that being the case perhaps the WBO would then order an interim title fight for Cleverly if Braehmer loses his appeal.

However, if Lakatos wins then irrespective of Braehmers appeal it would kind of then make an "Interim" fight meaningless.

Also Murat has his own website and interestingly there is no mention of the Cleverly fight on it, which you would have thought there would be, nothing much bigger than fighting for a world title, even an interim one.

With all the above I am not sure who Cleverly will fight in September, would be surprised if Erdei wanted a trip to Birmingham, plenty of dosh and well invested back home, not sure what he has to gain, if he bides his time he will get another shot at the full crown if he wants it.

Hope whomever they get for Cleverly its a meaningful fight, either of the above are acceptable but personally I have my doubts either will be in the opposite corner come fight night.
