ST Gordon (Boxrec# 9 cruiser ever)

Post by chuck9788 »

I hear ST Gordon was a tough fighter in the late 1970's-early 1980's. Before my era.

Please help , how good was ST?

Thank you from Las Vegas.

I'd rate him a top 100 all time puncher. His right hand was death and he had a solid jab behind it. Destroyed Carlos deleon like nobody else ever did. But he got completely schooled in the rematch.

As for his high ranking, his competition was fairly meager. Jesse Burnett was faded and he moved up to Heavy and showed more Boxing ability in upsetting Berbick. That was surprising to see him box more than slug.

He could stop ANYBODY if he caught them clean. Well, anybody but Evander.

He was ungainly but powerful and had his day in the sun. However, the cruiserweight division is and always will be a nothing weight class.

P4P he was one of the hardest punchers of the 80s! As was said, he could KO anyone he hit at cruiserweight, or heavyweight...except Holyfield of course and maybe a prime Dwight Qawi!
