Who had (or has) the most effective unorthodox style?
Who had (or has) the most effective unorthodox style?
Most boxers box in a similar fashion, with stylistic differences. I can remember watching a fighter called Daniel Londas box Mark Reefer years ago. He had a really strange and effective style. He beat Reefer with a lot of panache and Reefer was a very dangerous customer. Can anyone think of boxers with a strange or unusual style?

Tyson didnt have the most orthadox of styles , he was pretty short and had to make up for that by ducking even lower on his way in and exploding with big hits , so could say he had the most effective unorthadox style

Naseem Hamed, Roy Jones Jr.....

Basically any of the success stories out of the Ingle gym fit that bill - Naseem and Herol being the two obvious examples, with nods to the likes of Nelson and Rhodes as well.
You could also argue Eubank would be up there as a contender for that question.

Contemporary fighters that come to mind are Vitali Klitschko and Paul Williams. Pernell Whitaker definitely had some unorthodox moves as well and they absolutely befuddled his opponents.

Aaron Pryor had what i would call unorthodox style, loose hands awkward movement and popping out punches from all angles
Re: Who had (or has) the most effective unorthodox style?
Kirkland Laing if he was in the right frame of mind was very effective

Nasseem Hamed.

Good call Ian - I remember watching his first fight with Arguello and thinking it just shouldn't work... but it did!Old bones Ian wrote:Aaron Pryor had what i would call unorthodox style, loose hands awkward movement and popping out punches from all angles

With the British and Irish forum in mind, I'd say Kirkland Laing aswell. As a previous poster stated, he had to be on top form for his style to be effective. Naz would definitely be up there aswell.
Re: Who had (or has) the most effective unorthodox style?
Jr Witter i'd say
Re: Who had (or has) the most effective unorthodox style?
Going with Hamed myself here
Re: Who had (or has) the most effective unorthodox style?

Mike Spinks had a very unorthodox style, which certainly bamboozled Holmes.

Re: Who had (or has) the most effective unorthodox style?
Henry "The Human Windmill" Armstrong?
Re: Who had (or has) the most effective unorthodox style?
The Human Windmill was Harry Greb; Henry was dubbed Homicide Hank and Hurricane Henry. All the best fighters have more than one nickname.iamasadlittleboy wrote:Henry "The Human Windmill" Armstrong?
Re: Who had (or has) the most effective unorthodox style?
Harry Greb from the old school choice and Naseem Hamed for a modern choice. Both entertaining in their own ways to watch.
Re: Who had (or has) the most effective unorthodox style?
Emmaunal Augustus (Burton?). Maybe not the most effective but it seemed to work for him.

I mentioned Greb earlier. The reason I called him the human windmill (which I have heard to describe Armstrong) was to outline the style
