Nothing in his career make me think he would back away from fighting them.He enjoys the challange too much.
Even without HBO, the Klitschko's still draw a huge crowd in Germany. People in europe will still pay to watch them.
Wlad holds 2 belts and is recognized as the number 1 HW in the world as well as ring magazine champion.
If Haye retires in 2 fights he will retire as a man who was scared to fight the best HWs.
Wlad has already proven he was the best HW of his era. He could already retire, he would have no problem with fighting 5 more years defeating the likes of Povetkin, Arreola, Boystov, Adamek etc, and he will be remembered as the better HW who still offered Haye 2 chances.
Wlad is already very rich and can fight in Germany making over 2 millions per fight until retirement, he doesn't have to bend to Haye's conditions (if there are any conditions afterall)

I understand where you are coming from, and agree they are enormous attractions in europe, and do huge viewing figures on german tv, but it's got to hurt them that HBO and american television have turned their back on them (I personally feel it is a bit sulky of HBO to do that i.e if america can't have a heavyweight champion, then we will take our ball home).

I think one of the fights will happen, and its looking more likely to be vitali now.I hope so, as I don't have much interest in watching Haye-Harrison (although it would do big bucks).

Dan Raphael is a lazy twit who should have used his contacts to secure a grain of truth to what's occuring, rather than just slate Haye.

What the hell does he get paid for ? to sum up opinions worthy of Boxingcack24 ?

Didn't Haye also state that he would retire in just a few fights?...So when the Klitschko's are retired, and Haye as well, what talent will be left in the HW pool in europe? USA is clearly out of great HW fighters, but europe doesn't either shine with future HOFers...
And by the way, if by "kinky wrestling" you refered to the UFC, it is a real sport now and has nothing kinky to it and I truely wish europe had such an exciting card as UFC116.
So rather than being insulting towards americans why don't you try understanding why they have such opinion? by the way its not just the americans mate, its the entire world laughing off Haye's behavior. Haye has what he diserves, he talked the talk for sure, but never walked the walk, and talk is cheap remember...

Nah it's kinky wrestling.

Dan Raphael is the boxing version of Harry Knowles. He might be a fan, but he's still just an internet warrior. Nothing more.

Somebody asked who'd pay Dan Raphael to write such an article... it was probably Wladimir.

That is poor, unbalanced writing. I suppose he's trying to be a "shock-jock", and write something to rile up the fans and stir debate.

For me, Wlad is an embarrassment to the sport. His style of fighting, where he sticks his jabbing arm out and leaves it there so the opponent can't close the gap, is cheating. Its unattractive to watch. When you're born with the height, reach and physique of Wladimir, its a very safety first way to fight. His entire style is built around not taking chances.

In terms of excitement, taking chances, giving the fans memories and great nights, he is a zillion light years away from somebody like Tommy Hearns, who typically enjoyed comparative height and reach advantages, yet would readily mix it with opponents. Hearns is a legend, an all time great. He got in the ring to FIGHT.

I think a fighter like Wlad is an embarrassment. I have watched most of his fights and its like watching paint dry. So what if he's big in Germany ? Over there, David Hasslehoff is a rock legend.

David Haye is a breath of fresh air in the division. He doesn't tower over opponents, he doesn't outreach them, so he has to use a mixture of boxing, fighting, tactics, power and conditioning to win his bouts. That is exactly why I watch boxing, to see two men get into the ring and fight. I don't watch boxing to see a tall rangey bloke keep opponents at arms length until they're knackered or beat up. There is a skill to seeing gifted fighters do that kind of thing, but with Wlad it is just a mechanical process. There is no flair, invention or daring involved, and in most of his recent fights he has done it to the extent that I feel is cheating.

The Klitschko's have been around for years and their legacies are pretty much already set. Fingers crossed that Teddy Atlas can figure out a way for Povetkin to beat him.

I think Haye should figure out his own route, and suit himself. He's doing alright, and I can't blame him for making money out of his WBA belt. He is exciting, he generates entertainment, he commands attention, and fat mediocre american writers should maybe concentrate on the shortcomings of american heavyweights instead of slating Haye.

i agre wabout the ugly style and the cheating, which he is allowed to get away with on germany, K2 promoted shows. he also hugs inside, even on the defensive and cruiserweight-bound eddie chambers, and on top of that he turns his back once the opponent has broken free from the hold/headlock.

yes, hopefully the class of povetkin (a olympic gold medallist himself) and the experience of atlas will be enough to beat wlad on a K2 show. typical HBO, turning their backs on what could be a really good fight. i am picking povetkin. it'll be hard early, but if he can turn the tide on wlad, if he can up the pace, wlad will crumble.

I've no idea why anyone would be surprised by this. You can't do the things Haye's done, say the things he's said, then decline on the opportunity to back it up and not expect repercussions.

I don't Mind Raphael at all, what he lacks in sophistication he makes up for by being on point with majority opinion, most of the time.

I wouldn't label him anti-brit either as he chose Amir Khan as his (ESPN's) top prospect for '08. Haye's rubbed him up the wrong way, which is probably a fair reflection of the international viewpoint right now, it's as simple as that.

I'm sure all will be forgiven and forgotten when the fight finally materializes, until then, he has to reap what he's sown.

And Haye has hit opponents behind their heads in several fights, is he a cheater too? He dropped both Ruiz and Barret with illegal punches and landed similar blows against Mormeck and Fragomeni. To say Wlad is a cheater is beyond stupid, unless you consider Haye a cheater as well. There is nothing illegal about jabbing an opponent over and over but it is illegal to knock them senseless with a punch to the back of their head. At least keeping an arm extended doesn't seriously damage an opponent.

Wlad doesn't fight like Thomas Hearns for the same reason Haye wouldn't fight Wlad for no money, it is a stupid decision. Why would he give away all his advantages to fight in a way that does not suit him? I hope you are not a trainer, because if you told your fighters to give away all their advantages and fight in a manner that exposes their flaws, your boxers would lose continually. Klitschko is a professional athlete and his first goal is to win, so he can continue to call himself the best heavyweight in the world, improve his record, and keep making huge money.

Also, how good American heavyweights are is irrelevant to the discussion. Most Americans know their heavyweights are jokes but this doesn't mean they can't criticize fighters from other areas of the globe. Raphael never said, "American heavyweights are better than Haye."

I can understand the Raphael's frustration, although I don't think Haye is a joke. His bark seems louder than his bite right now. He talked so much about how he would clean up the HW division, how the current crop of heavyweights were disgraces, and how he was going to be different. So far he hasn't backed up any of this and seems to have gone missing, while other top fighters are staying active.
So while Raphael might be going a little over the top, I think he has relevant points.

Why do I keep hearing the same shit over and over? David Haye is "a breath of fresh air" "the savior of the division"...
Haye has so far found a way to make his fight with Valuev less interesting and less exciting than 46 y old Holyfield whom actually did better than Haye.
His win over a shot Ruiz was a good one, although Haye clearly is very economical in his punches and mostly counterpunches now. So his style really isn't the guy who rushes forward going for the knockout anymore.
So far, Haye hasn't brought anything new to the HW division. A win over a shot Barrett which Solis took 2 rounds to KO, a discussable uneventful win vs Valuev, and a decent win vs an old shot Ruiz...But most of all, 3 pull outs of fights vs the Klitschko's.
Now explain to me how that is fresh air to you. Enlighten me please!

Haye officially moved up to heavyweight immediately after his win over Maccareinelli.

In fact - ringside - after he just knocked out Maccarinelli - he proceeded to call Wladmir a bum and that he was a disgrace to heavyweight boxing and he was coming to knock him out

That was March 2008

Since then in the nearly 2 and half years that have followed - Haye ran his mouth - made T-shirts and confronted Wlad out in Public.

He signed for and pulled out of fights with Wlad and Vitali.

And didnt respond to a personal challenge in a youtibe message Wald gave him and offered him a very very genrous 50/50 deal.

Its 2 and half years overdue.

People didnt really care about seeing Haye fight this guy or that guy - or even Vaulev.

They wanted to see if he could take over Lennox Lewis mantle as the man - and he hasnt gone through with his promises.

Its not to late - but people are now growing tired of Hayes empty words - because he had the ooppurutinys and has simply ducked the challenge.

American's don't like David Haye because he's not American. Same reason they don't like any other Euro fighters.

Give it time. I'm not a huge Haye fan, but I 100% believe he will fight one or both (depending on the first result) of the Klitschko Brothers. Of course even if he won both we'd hear from the American media about how he ducked Chris Arreola because he feared his power

Raff, with respect, maybe you keep hearing the same xxxx over and over again because its a valid point of view in a lot of people's eyes ?

You've got issues with Haye, so you skew your arguments accordingly, which is fair enough, but there's a lot of people fed up with the Klitschko's, and excited that there is a new kid on the block. HBO's decision is not surprising, competition for TV coverage is tough and you've two guys who, because they are brothers, will never fight each other. Plus, one of them is really boring, and the other is approaching his 40th birthday. Can't fault HBO for their decision.

You're asking me to explain to you why I find Haye a breath of fresh air, and you lace your argument with observations about how other boxers have dealt with Haye opponents quicker or more effectively than Haye has.

I can't be arsed. Its anorak stuff to be honest. I just find Haye to be a fresh new addition to the scene, and I like watching him fight. Wlad K, these days, is indulging in borderline cheating as far as I'm concerned and he's so boring even Manny Steward kicked off about it in the latter part of the fight against Chambers. At the risk of exposing myself as an anorak, I just googled "Wladimir Klitschko cheats" and found this article,

http://queensberry-rules.com/2010-artic ... mbers.html

That sums it up for me, especially the bit that says, (Also, Klitschko cheats like a mofo by leaving his left arm out that way, but he gets away with it because he doesn't leave it out there for long enough stretches to draw a warning from the ref; oh, and it's a German ref, and Germany loves Klitschko.)

If you want to applaud that kind of thing, fair enough, but lots of folk are fed up and it seems to me that the Klitschko's have basically reduced the heavyweight championship, which should be a global thing, to something that is mainly of interest in Germany. British telly isn't particularly interested and the American's have just given up. Its boring as hell and I think Haye should do his own thing. He's won a major title, he's the new kid on the block, and good luck to him. As for the whole "they've offered him a 50/50 deal and he turned it down" I don't think that armchair fans, on forums like this, are privvy to what is REALLY going on behind the scenes. We live in a soundbite, press-release, media-manipulated world where statements like this are easily fed to the public. When Haye didn't have a title, he was apparently having to agree to face the Klitschko's again and again (three bouts in total) should he have won against Wlad. No, I didn't see the contracts but it was openly discussed by both parties. Although the world would probably pay good money to see Haye, after beating Wlad, take on Vitali, and then Wlad in a rematch, I don't think its a particularly fair way of going about things, to get this into a contract before the first fight takes place. The idea behind it is to suit the Klitschko's own agenda, not Haye and not the sport. Then again, boxing isn't fair and never has been.

To me, that was pretty low. Wlad would have trained long and hard for the fight, basing his style around minimum risk, with what I regard as borderline cheating, and he'd have known that should he lose, then his older brother gets the next crack at Haye, and then there's a rematch clause, to boot.

Things like that make me long to see the Klitschko's retire and new blood come along to inject some life and excitement into the division.
