Pryce v Bami

Post by rhino222 »

Firstly congratulations to Bradley Pryce, for the prizefighter series BP looked liked he had dieted (a bit) but not trained, for last nights fight Bradley looked like he was in decent shape, so congratulations to Bradley and Gary Lockett etc.

My main bone of contention was the stoppage, the referee picked up the count at 7, meaning Bami had only 1 second to get to his feet at 8 which is the norm. This was simply not good enough and im not surprised ted was livid.

he'd already stumbled in the corner I think the ref made the right call. I'd rather see them stop a fight early than too late.

Was an odd stoppage, not sure if the ref counted to 10?
if you look he goes 7 , 8 then waves his hands as Bami gets up. He should of been allowed to continue, there was the minutes break as the bell had just rung

Again it is easy to critisize whilst watching at home. Yes he took the count up late mainly because he had to push the cornermans hand away from TB mouth ( the corner should not have touched their man full stop) TB did get up within the given time but the ref waved it off, was the stoppage early? Maybe but if you noticed TB then fell onto the floor in his corner and had to be helped to his chair. One could argue that the ref made the correct call and TB may have been hurt further? We will never know but I for one would much rather a little moaning about stopping a fight early than have a badly hurt fighter. I know everyone is differrant but Refs are only human.

I think the stoppage was correct but the ref looked as though he didn't have a clue what to do. He took the count at 7-8 and then stopped counting and looked like he was going to lift him up and stopped it, surely he should have carried the count on while Bami was trying to get to his feet.

I thought it was a bit of a rum stoppage myself.

Referee's seem to get it wrong more than they get it right.

And some are downright criminals.

Laurence Cole in the Dirrell vs Abraham fight was as crooked as they come. Joe Cortez disgraced himself in the Soto fight and was bias in the Mayweather/Hatton fight. Tilleman against Reid should have been banned from the sport.

Anyone remember Jay Nady hiding his mic, then telling Marquez 'hey your cut, it was a head..your ahead on the cards..wink wink' - he was basically saying i will stop the fight for you and declare you the winner. But fair play to Marquez he shrugged it off and completed the fight. But showed his bias completely.

Just seen this now. Firstly, congratulations to Bradley Pryce; a great finish and a great win. I think he could still be a force at welterweight. This is the right weight for him I feel. On the stoppage, it was definitely strange to see Cook try and remove the gumshield. Once Bami got to his feet he looked okay to continue. A premature stoppage for me but the knockdown was a heavy one so I can see why the ref stopped it.

Here's the fight for those of you who have yet to see it:

I agree, the stoppage looked good but the ref made a bit of a mess of it.

That was yet another blunder from Laurence Cole. I think he was suspended for it as well. The guy is among the elite of the crooked. He only gets so much work because he so well connected through his daddy.

I thought Bami was doing alright until you caught him. Bami is past his best and you are clearly not but its still a decent win nevertheless. One thing is for sure beating Bami doesnt mean you can beat Kell Brook. Keep up the training with Gary and I believe you will get back on top. You started slow but I guess the heat in the ring didnt help

I missed the fight.

Reading this thread I was expecting to see a slightly dazed Bami getting screwed by mistiming the count. After watching the vid though, he was clearly put down hard and seriously hurt, you can see him falling down a second time after the fight had been stopped, 1 minute wouldn't have been enough and he'd likely have gone out and gotten put to sleep in the following round if it'd continued. The stoppage was fine imo.

Has this come in in recent years?
I remember reading that Gene Tunney said "My signal to get off the floor was at 'nine'", explaining that the "Long Count" made no difference he just waited for that signal.

The ref in question is the least authoritative on the circuit and he's not improved in god knows how many years.
