Post by amwsnw »

Just got my tickets. Anyone flying over from the east coast ??
If so we should try and catch up for a beer or two before hand.

no.

i still don't think green should be fighting him. step up and back yourself green. fight for a cruiser title. not the siaca's and a rusty briggs. look how meehan struggled with inactivity. his timing was off. his confidence wasn't there to let his punches go properly and he fatigued badly.

hope u get value for your money though.

Saying he should fight another title holder and actually getting one in the ring are two very different things.

The fight nights GMP put on are always value for money and the venue although small is perfect for fights. As Marlin said, wanting to fight some big names and actually getting them in the ring is two different things. If Green was able to successfully negaotiate with Hopkins or Tarver I am sure people still would have criticised him for fighting two old fellas.
Personally I would have liked him to go after Cunningham or even Flores but this is a fight I have wanted to see for a long long time. If Briggs is fit, he will be ready. I hope Green wins but I also hope the fight delivers what these guys deserve.

the only reason is that he is simply not interested.

that's fine, he doesn't have to. he is just trying to earn as much $$$ as possible with as little risk as possible. of course it is smart. who wouldn't want to do that. its just dissapointing for the contest part of boxing.

I said almost the exact same thing a few threads ago, it's quite fine for Green to be doing this too imo as well. The main thing is that he's not spurting out how he's #1 and he'll beat the best. He's just going about doing his own thing.
That I have no problems with. It would be if he was boasting about being the best and then not fighting them - I'd have different words about it.

I'd love to come over and watch this fight live, I was going to Sydney to watch it, just too far on too short notice.

the commentator said it.

i hate the boasting rubbish too, but that is just to stay in the headlines and sell more tickets. instead of saying he is the best athlete in the world and he is the best boxer of all time, green uses the 'i'm just a normal aussie bloke who is fighting for the aussie public cause together we can achieve anything', and blah blah blah.

but at the end of the day if people r gunna part with their cash to watch him fight less appropriate boxers, then well done green.

i think the reason that they part with their cash has alot to do with boxing not being mainstream and they dont know if there getting ripped off or if there is better fights out there.

i also think green and mundine fight all these aussie guys who arnt really in their legue(some of them are) to give them a pay-day that most of these guys would never have

Green was very interested in Hopkins (still in the p4p top ten) and Tarver. The deal simply couldnt get done. Tarver has now come out slammed Greeny in the press in the USA and Hopkins, well who knows what he is doing. What was clear though was both guys put such a high cost to get them here they were priced out early in proceedings.

I heard rumours of a Cameron Vs Green fight should they both be succsesful next week. Could be a huge test for Greeny if Cameron looks good at the weight.

Guys you gotta think outside the box a little here.

if greeny couldnt afford to fight tarver or hopkins because they want top dollar and theyre a big risk , how do you think he is going to get cunningham or huck to the table???

more money

briggs fight equals more money more choice of oppents for nixt fight ?

maybe i dunno just a thought ?

Was it not Briggs who approached Green whilst Green was trying to negotiate with Hopkins and Tarver ??

how the hell would anybody else know who approached who etc.? and it doesn't really matter anyway, the result is still the same.

the point is that green is fighting briggs instead of someone more credible atm. would be funny if green gets ko'd badly. but then again they r friends aren't they?

Don't make the mistake of totally wright Briggs off, and I don't think it will be a big upset if Green gets stopped. Sure Green is the favourite but but Briggs is no dummy, nor a bum.

I agree, Briggs is the sort of guy who will go out swinging. He isnt going to lay down. I see this fight being a war until someone gets stopped.

you are right buster, it really is irrellevant who approached who.
I am not writing Briggs off. Anyone with that power can never be underestimated...I wouldn't think it funny or surprising if either fighter got stopped.

IMO. 3rd round conclusion on towel, with uncertainty who actually threw it.

Green has beaten a former WBA heavyweight champion. Why would light heavyweights faze him?
