Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
Re: Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
'Maybe'? He was being schooled for the majority of rounds 3-9.
I had him five down. His own corner seemed to agree with most impartial viewers. The judges scorecards were terrible as usual.[/quote]
after watching the fight for the 3rd time today i gave the first 3 to ste the 4th,5th 6th and 7th to daws, 8th and 9th were give and take and could of gone to either fighter and 10 was definitley ste's round do you agree or am i being biased again? but even if you give 8 and 9 to daws ste was only 2 behind with 2 to go

Don't think Williams won the 3rd personally which would explain the difference
Re: Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
Tommy told me why he got the ref to stop the fight, a wise choice, and the lad will come back another day,

Daws had the fight sewn up, so yes the decision was right.
Re: Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
and why was the reason eric? personally i thought ste deserved to go the 12 i didnt think he was that far behind, not as far as his corner had himERIC GUY wrote:Tommy told me why he got the ref to stop the fight, a wise choice, and the lad will come back another day,
Re: Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
I was surprised how close the judges had it, I (unusually) agreed with Jim Watt that Daws was miles ahead, it looks like Williams' trainers thought the same and sent Williams out for a do-or-die round in the 10th

Re: Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
I'd have had him out before the 10th. He was running on fumes, his corner had lost faith and were offering nothing other than - "force him back, force him back" - and the arena must have been boiling. Daws is a 12 round fighter, Williams isn't.
Williams was way behind, the judges scorecards have thrown a different angle on this, but only because they were too generous to Williams.
Daws, sat on my sofa, was landing the cleaner shots and more of them, all night.

Re: Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
Daws was miles ahead at the finish, god knows what the judges were watching.
That was a terrific effort from Williams, and no less than I expected from him, but despite a magnificant last ditch push in the 10th, he was a beaten man by the end 6th round. Once Daws finds his rhythm he's so hard to knock out of it.
I hope the EBU head office can try and overlook their countryman for change and install Lenny as the mandatory.

Does the Frank Monkhouse who does Boxrec News post on here?
I just read his round up of the show and he overlooked the fact that in Fury vs Nesbitt only one man actually got punched in the face - and it wasnt Nesbitt...

Iv found with a fair few of reporters more and more are starting to report fights with out actualy watching very closely.
I had a complaint to boxing news when they had a reporter telling how a fighter had been knocked down when it was him scoring the knockdown they gave a description of the combo and everything lol

Don't think it matters what the points were at the time Williams's corner pulled him out — they will have known what physical state he was in and had he still been able to be competitive over the remaining rounds, they would have let him go on. Obviously they didn't think he was so the scoring, which they would not have been aware of, was irrelevant. They did well by their fighter in my opinion. Nothing worse than a brave corner.
Re: Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
the corner didnt pull him out benny king and tommy gilmour did, george schofield wanted to give him one more round cause all george was thinking of is his money if ste won he would get a better pay day next fight and that my friend is factGlyn Leach wrote:Don't think it matters what the points were at the time Williams's corner pulled him out — they will have known what physical state he was in and had he still been able to be competitive over the remaining rounds, they would have let him go on. Well whoever pulled him out did the right thing in my opinion my friend
Re: Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
my opinion ste would of won the last two rounds, all im hearing in the press and forums is ste run out of steam but look at the fight there was only one fighter running out of steam and it wasnt ste.the management and corner were wrong to pull him out and as for the career threatening cut he had 8 stitches and the cut wasnt that bad.look at paul smiths cut against dodson and that was the first round and it went the 12 and his career isnt over.i know ste would of liked to finish the fight hearing the end of the 12th round bell,if ste was so knackered why was he still forcing the fight walking forward applying pressure till the end of round 10?

Fasteddie,
You have more inside track than I. But I'd have pulled Williams out long before the tenth. He looked tired and vulnerable and while Daws isn't a big hitter, arguably, that made him more dangerous for Williams' long-term well being.
The referee really wanted him to carry on - I suspect he may have been tipped the wink that it was close (?) - but the fighter didn't look eager to get up and carry on, he may reject the notion after the event, but from the TV pictures he looked knackered, he'd given it once last go, not really dinted Daws and was spent.
Daws is a renown 12 round fighter at this level.
I'm with Glyn Leach on this one.

Re: Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
from my point of view there were a couple of things that concerned me but none of them were ste's well being or will to go on,what concerned me was george's advice for ste,the way george shea and benny nearly every round were talking to ste at the same time now im no pro boxer and im no boxing trainer but dont you think ste needed to know what he was doing wrong in the fight and also what daws was doing wrong in the fight things ste could say to himself ok ill try this or ok yer i see were daws is making that mistake but george could only say "you gotta work harder" or "lets turn it into a street fight". why dya think george said this to ste? cause he didnt have the tactical nouse to tell ste what to do next and ste has got to were he is by himself plus 12 rounds to ste would be no problem and by the way the heat at the york hall that night was unbeleivable. plus maybe tommy gilmour had a little wager on daws nd thats why he pulled ste lolDavidPayne wrote:Fasteddie,

To state that Williams would have won the last two rounds is sheer specualtion mate. Daws is arguably the best championship round fighter in Britain so winning the last couple against him when you've been largely dominated for the previous ten rounds is wishful thinking.fasteddie wrote:my opinion ste would of won the last two rounds, all im hearing in the press and forums is ste run out of steam but look at the fight there was only one fighter running out of steam and it wasnt ste.the management and corner were wrong to pull him out and as for the career threatening cut he had 8 stitches and the cut wasnt that bad.look at paul smiths cut against dodson and that was the first round and it went the 12 and his career isnt over.i know ste would of liked to finish the fight hearing the end of the 12th round bell,if ste was so knackered why was he still forcing the fight walking forward applying pressure till the end of round 10?
Williams approached the fight like everybody thought he was going to but his inability to show an alternative gameplan was his undoing. The success he had in the early rounds was maybe down to the fact that Daws was working him out and by round 4 he seemed to have cracked the code.
My unofficial scorecard gave Williams only the 1st and the 10th but I can understand that the 2nd session was close. Everything else was dominated by the Morden man.
The retirement from Williams' corner was a correct call and the Wallasey man can take credit in delivering a superb effort against a formiddable opponent whilst still in the infancy of his career.
Williams v Gavin for the English anyone?
Re: Last night DAWS/WILLIAMS - Strange?
i totally disagree with you he won the first three and the 10th otright but lost 4, 5,6,7 but 8 was close and 9 was close could of gone either way plus if you read one article in a paper from london daws says he was glad they pulled ste out cause the heat was getting to him but ste was ready to the two and this is why i said ste would of took the last 2 rounds, gavin vs williams would be goodChris W 1982 wrote:To state that Williams would have won the last two rounds is sheer specualtion mate.
