I simply will never understand how some fans diminish that achievement - its a massive plus to say you are a holder of that belt!!!Mooresy wrote:But i have no regrets. I've got a lonsdale belt.
Mind you - I hope its in pride of place Moorsey - I say that because over the last 10 years the memorabilia and photos I have managed to get hold of my mrs banished it to the spare room - how bad is that - one of the pieces is a signed programme the night you fought Michael Jones in July 2005 - so I hope you have persuaded the mrs to let you hang your belt up in the frontroom!!!!

Hey Moorsey,
How is Steve, its been a sad year for him in many ways - I used to love sitting next to his dad at many shows we used to go to - one in particular is the night when Carl Froch was fighting Alan Paige from your stable - I remember screaming for Frochy and Steve and his dad were obviously shouting for Alan - Steve and his Dad are 2 of the nicest people I met in boxing - just a shame I cant sit next to Steve's dad anymore.
How are the kids pal? - will you encourage them into sport.

Kids are great, enjoying there Daddy not being a grumpy b@stard coz he's knackered and starvin!!
Mikey's right into his footy, play's twice a week and is pretty good, but obviously he's into his boxing coz he's grew up around it, and he's got a right little dig on him! If he wants to get into it later on then i'd be ok with it, but i'd prefer him not to, i'd rather him get paid for playing football than getting hit in the face for a living. Having said that boxings been good to me and i had a ball for 10 years, so if that's what he wanted to do then i'd have no problem with it.

Re: Jamie Moore Testimonial
it annoys me when people put figures out about how much boxers earn - like 'he;s earned 50k for 3 minutes work' if they win in the first round. They forget all months of training that has gone into that fight and the years to even get to the title shots in the first place. then you have expenses, tax, managers, promoters and like Jamie said you've gone down to 40% of the gross figure anyway.
Most pros have to have another job and only the very top guys are truly full time - its not like football.
True, the elite can make incredible money but they are the exception.
I don't see anything wrong with a testimonial dinner. i'm sure it will be a good night out.

Re: Jamie Moore Testimonial
I think a testimonial is a great idea. It's a way of giving back to someone who has put their health on the line for our entertainment and to improve his own life. It's also a way of celebrating his considerable sporting achievements -some fantastic wins, and very generous in defeat.
If any kid who walks in the gym to learn how to box, or just to keep fit, is told that they will end up a british (londsdale belt),irish, commonwealth and european champion, they would be chuffed to bits. That is a hell of level to box out.You throw in some epic bouts against Jones, Macklin and Rhodes and you have a stella career.
I won't be able to attend the testimonial myself as it's my stag do that night, but I will be making a contribution.Personally, I think its the very least I can do, and I hope a lot of money is raised (!)

having to explain the above to the casual observor/fan is so so frustrating after 1000 times!.
I think the testimonial dinner is fantastic idea, We all get chance to show our appreciation to a great chap who was 'one of us' who achieved greatness and respect and has had a career with so many ups and downs its been unbelievable. In the era of pre-madona footballers and the d*ickheads you get every now and again in other sports including boxing, someone like Moorsey has shown true class and respect and has had time for everybody. Im sure everyone has fantastic memories inside and outside the ring of Jamie. Mine personally was when a good friend of mine suffered some terrible injuries in a works-accident. Through Alex Matvienko I asked for a signed glove from Moorsey, not only did I get that, I got it signed from Khan, and Moorsey also donated a signed white Ricky Hatton glove he had. Raised almost a grand on those items alone. He didnt have to do that, it wasnt expected, but shows what a top chap Jamie is. Plus he is now having to put up with training Alex, that deserves a medal if anything does :)
Good luck for the future Jamie, heard your staying in the game so thats fantastic news all around.

Blighted by injuries.
From Ossie Duran to the end.
Always good value Jamie. Enjoy a rewarding retirement and don't torture yourself with what might have been.
What you did was write your name in modern boxing folklore for all that saw you fight Macklin.
You'll mean more to people in the UK than many a 'world' champion did.
I do hope you find a niche on the telly, because you make a point well, and it would be good to see a new face, or hear a new voice on the airwaves.

And as said before, even if i'd have earned £100k a fight, i would prob only see £40k of it, and then i was only boxing twice a year for the last 3 years coz of injuries. So when you look at it that way, you start to see how i might not have a lot of money. Thanks for the kind words spud, and i don't think people realise the little things that you've picked up on. I never asked ANYONE for the money for a glove i'd signed while i was fighting, if it was for charity or not. I paid for them myselfSpud wrote:I find it quite distasteful people resenting what is being done for Jamie Moore here!!!
People should think just for a minute that very very few boxers reach a level where they can earn purses lets just say over £50k - the sort of money where you can put a decent deposit on a house.
Jamie Moore didn't go begging for this testimonial/benefit night - the team around him which includes the best boxing manager in the business Steve Wood decided to put it on for him - if Jamie Moore is that respected and that highly thought of that people decide to thank him for his career in a cruel and harsh sport - then I say good luck to him!!!![]()
Moore is one of them boxers who would do anything for you - he made a friend for life with me when he supported an army boxing evening - he got paid f*ck all for doing it and its not the first time him and his manager Steve Wood have supported events like this by attending or supplying signed gloves which were auctioned off or by simply presenting the prizes to the lads who thought the world of a professional boxing champion taking the time to shake their hands.
Moore is one ugly so and sobut he is a credit to the sport!!! he will now probably train lads coming through just like Clinton Woods is - but the thing is he will get paid f*ck all for doing it and thus evenings like this testimonial are very much deserved.
out of my own pocket. Even for the people who just knock on my door and ask me for one. But that's probably why i'm skint!!![]()
Re: Jamie Moore Testimonial
can't argue with this. moore has shown amazing courage at times in big trouble, and has given british boxing some of its most memorable scenes in modern times. just look at the stoppage of macklin in an exhausting fight. or battering michael jones (3rd fight) after getting seriously stunned. and truly going out on his shield vs ryan rhodes, staging memorable rallies when he seemed to be out of it and fighting on fumes. he gave a lot to boxing so he should get something more out of it.

Well I like to wish him a fantastic evening and all the best for the future, what would you like to do now you have hung the gloves up then?
Re: Jamie Moore Testimonial
Thanks pal. I'm doing personal training now fella, and I do boxing-cicuit classes in the evenings, plus I'm distributing CNP supplements to gyms, and I also have my VIP boxing equipment company too, so i've got plenty to keep me busy!! I'm getting a wage out of it so that's the main thing, keep the kids happy. I would have loved to train fighters but i'm just not in a position to do it, there's not enough money in it to keep me afloat. I've got 2 young kids and there my priority. It's a shame coz I think i'd have made a good trainer, but needs must ey.IRLangmaid25 wrote:Well I like to wish him a fantastic evening and all the best for the future, what would you like to do now you have hung the gloves up then?

Sounds pretty good and keep it up and the good thing you have a bit of stability with a consistent wage coming in now and it is important that you want to give your kids good stable platform for the rest of their life as well. So keep it up mate as it sounds very promisingMooresy wrote:Thanks pal.
