Re: To all supermiddleweights in the country
I can't speak for anyone but it seems logical that at the end of the day Smith is the British Champion and wants to move onto bigger things (if it is possible) and make some good money from his belt and his career. Groves is a fast, fresh, big punching young man who is moving up fast. I am pretty sure that there aren't that many title level boxers who are arsed about boxing anyone. They do it day in and day out and are used to getting hit. If a good payday was about then the bout would be agreed. Groves' camp offered De Gale £50,000 to box and it was declined. Most likely because the fight will be worth a lot more than that in a year or 18 months. Carl Dilks wants to box and will face anyone but I doubt he'd do it for free; I can't see Paul Smith, Groves or De Gale being afraid but they have got to get paid commensurate with the risk and the prestige of the bout.

I see you ain't lost your sense of humour Paul..
I think this thread is quite funny to be honest and I also think it's great were getting more pro's on here..
Let's once again not forget that Paul vs McDermott is not confirmed and once again I'll state there's far worse than McDermott, I know for a fact Paul didn't choose McDermott just like I didn't choose Atoli Moore but once again I swear you wouldn't believe how hard Dean Powell's job is...I've witnessed it first hand, Paul wants to fight Magee, FACT, That can't be made and he wants the british title to keep so his team make a fight for him,His team are there to make fights to his benefit and advantage not his hi disadvantage, Hence the word team.. Let's also not forget his last 2 fights were very demanding, To get through them cuts was something else..

Carl dillks av heard that the cuban luis garcia is looking for top ten british supermiddle or lightheavy to fight why dont you fight him? Also i think smith should fight mcdermot to keep busy then him and degale should fight, degale has already said he wants the fight soon and both are warren fighters so should be easy to make

Re: To all supermiddleweights in the country
There are too many promoters for too few fighters.... plus they are all scared shitless of making risky fights.
There are matchups in each division that should be made immediately, such as:
Fury vs Price
Maccarinelli vs Norton
Smith/Groves/Magee/DeGale/Anderson series of fights
Macklin/Lee/Duddy/Barker/Murray/McEwan series
Small vs Margarito (with loaded gloves)
Brook vs Jennings - hopefully this happens
etc etc

Well, it's realism, due to how boxing works.Smigga wrote:Finally a bit of common sense.Coco wrote:Groves v Smith isn't likely because they are with different promoters, maybe for a title, but even then!
But still, it's a shame that fights like that don't happen.
Likewise De Gale, I can see there being a lot of good opponents domestically that he ends up not fighting.
Re: To all supermiddleweights in the country
it might be common sense - and no disrespect is meant to you in this Paul - but its also the biggest load of bollocks. Its on a level with saying 'Ferguson and Wenger dont get on so the FA Cup final will instead be ManUtd vs Walsall'Smigga wrote:Finally a bit of common sense.Coco wrote:Groves v Smith isn't likely because they are with different promoters, maybe for a title, but even then!

Matt, it's not the same thing, FA Cup final has to happen between whoever gets there, whereas Smith and Groves isn't something that has to happen.MatthewS wrote:it might be common sense - and no disrespect is meant to you in this Paul - but its also the biggest load of bollocks. Maybe the league would have been a better analogy then... as it automatically pitches all the top boys in together... there is always going to be business decisions over ruling fights BUT that doesnt mean we should just sit on our hands or doff our caps to it.

Good statement!! ......... It is a load of bollocks!!!!
So why will you not fight Groves??? ............ Cos you have different promoters?????????? ......... Poor excuse i'm afraid, the boxing public are asking for the fight and you are ignoring their requests!!!
And don't be so arrogant to claim "I am a lucky man. Not everybody likes me, but most people do" How do you substatiate your claim that most people like you???? .............. I find that comment a little arrogant!

Re: To all supermiddleweights in the country
I like Paul Smith, a very intelligent guy but now he is marking time needlessly on the domestic scene - last thing he needs is McDermott or Carl Dilks - what he needs is a big fight - if not for the EBU title then against a top American because it is now where he needs to be fighting for a world title or an eliminator for one. I can see him fighting these domestic lads and all it takes is one punch and it is all over as regards a world title shot - happened a lot to Mark Kaylor and it happened to Herol Graham more than once. What Paul Smith needs to do is vacate the titles and let the likes of Carl Dilks fight for them - Carl is domestic class at this moment in time and he wants his shot at the British and Commonwealth titles and why not? He wants his shot at the titles rather than Paul Smith. Or thats how I read his original post anyway, I don't think Carl was digging out Paul Smith in paticular.

Just because theres far worse doesn't mean you should fight someone that wouldn't be in any sane persons first 25 choices. Dean Powell is McDermott's trainer and manager which is the only reason he got picked.Bomber 1 wrote:Smigga wrote:Let's once again not forget that Paul vs McDermott is not confirmed and once again I'll state there's far worse than McDermott, I know for a fact Paul didn't choose McDermott just like I didn't choose Atoli Moore but once again I swear you wouldn't believe how hard Dean Powell's job is...I've witnessed it first hand, Paul wants to fight Magee, FACT, That can't be made and he wants the british title to keep so his team make a fight for him,His team are there to make fights to his benefit and advantage not his hi disadvantage, Hence the word team.. It wouldn't be difficult to make the Groves fight. He wants the fight. He would be ready for october. it would be a big fight. i also seem to remember smith complaining that he couldn't get motivated for shit fights he new he was going to win.
Fair play he had 2 tough fights, but boxing is a tough business do you expect to sell 7000 tickets for a keep busy fight. he is meant to be on the verge of world level he should be getting tested there by top europeans not a gatekeeper he should have fought 3 years ago. its a shit fight. if paul hasnt signed he can still say no, i have faith that he will call out groves on monday, smiths last 2 fights he showed guts lets see more of that and get the fight with groves on instead of a time waster.

Re: To all supermiddleweights in the country
Just dont lump me in with that JCB geezer Paul... and my point is exactly that they do NOT determine who plays who at any point... 'business' and indeed 'who manages who' or 'who is who' never comes into it... unlike boxing where it is a daily occurence.Smigga wrote:No disrespect but, since when did Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger decide who contests the FA Cup Final?MatthewS wrote:it might be common sense - and no disrespect is meant to you in this Paul - but its also the biggest load of bollocks. Not trying to add any controvesy to this thread but feel I need to stand up for Carl on this one ,as maybe he could have put his points over a little bit clearer. He basically is a fighter who is not scared of loosing and just wants to have a go and see how well he can do. With reference all the fighters named I will clear up on his behalf :-
Brian Magee- We agreed to this fight with 3 different promoters but nothing happened.
George Groves - Was to fight him for British eliminator in April but he got a Commonwealth shot ,we stepped down on the promise of the first defence .
Paul Smith - We were asked if we would have the fight , we said yes but there was no further developments.
James Degale - Tony Quigley was offered this fight and although we had no issues with the fight itself we could not agree terms. Carl heard and said he would have the fight , we got in touch but it seems like we were to late.
Tony Quigley - Apart from me managing both fighters they are very close and I would never suggest they fight each other unless there is somthing big on the end of it for both fighters.
Kenny Anderson - We withdrew from purse bids with him as we had another fight lined up , this is a posibility for the future but first Tony Quigley is due to fight him.
Tony Bellew - We were offered the fight and I turned it down without even speaking to Carl.
Hope that help clears up any issues on Carls behalf. May I also say that this is a shit job for all concerned and a lot harder than outsiders could ever imagine , all boxers feel that things could be better for them and I tell them to think about others when feeling sorry for themselves as no one has it easy.

PS - Even Stevie Wonder knows Carl should not have lost to Adamu or Stubbs.

Re: To all supermiddleweights in the country
I know why Paul is not answering the question cos it'll just lead to more questions and also why should he give Groves more publicity off his back, I know first hand that promoters decide exactly what fights are gonna happen and when, Just look at me against Ovil McKenzie?? Him and his manager agreed to fight me before he fought Billy Boyle only for his promoter Frank Maloney to pull him out!! This is just 1 example of how Im trying to show that the promoter is the one in the driving seat.
I personally have tried saying I'll box anyone at 175 and while I know no fighter is personally scared of me I also know it's either there promoter or manager that is directing them away from me, Put the right amount of money in front of Paul and I'll guarentee he fights Groves at the drop of a hat.. Groves also knows it's not easy to make, Just tell me when Frank has sat down round a table with a rival promoter when a double world title fight is not involved?? I really can't remember??
All this talk of Groves means nothing, Paul fights who his matchmaker picks just as Groves does.. Like I've said before it's the promoters in the driving seats so people who are moaning at the fighters for it not happening are moaning at the wrong people,
