Jeff Lacy - Robin Reid negotiations collapse FIGHT OFF!!!

Post by dve3333 »

The negotiations between IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy and IBF No. 3 contender Robin Reid have broken down. Lacy had hoped to defend his title against Reid, Saturday, August 6, in a world title homecoming fight in Florida. "The only thing I can conclude is that Reid does not really want the fight," said promoter Gary Shaw. "We have been negotiating in good faith with Reid's representative, Jess Harding, something I cannot say about the Reid camp. The negotiations are over and Jeff has asked me to move on and find another high caliber contender to challenge Jeff for his title in conjunction with the IBF. We are hopeful to be making that announcement shortly."
  Reid didnt want to fight for a World Title. It seemed like a cracking fight. :( I bet Froch will have something to say about it!!!

Reid is in it just for the money these days - I expect the offer wasn't anywhere near enough.

Oh for f**ks sake,

I feel like screaming. WHY WHY WHY??? I REALLY wanted to see this one.

Money? Reid said he'd fight anyone! Why on earth would he step into ottke's den for a stylistic nightmare, and give up another shot not long after against a guy he has probably got a better chance to beat.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHhhh!!!!!!!

I don't think it would have been a good fight, but certainly interesting. Gutted it is not happening cause I am not sold on Lacy.

The clock is ticking on Robins career.

It was a good thought anyway. If this fight doesnt come off i cant see reid in any other major fight really. A few IBO title fights then retire

The answer, strangely enough, is the word in front of your question mark. This is the only motivating factor for Reid now, I feel, and being a veteran of several hard wars and getting disgracefully robbed against Ottke, I don't blame the lad.

But it is gutting for us. I was even considering a summer holiday to Florida to take it in...for the five minutes the bastard match was on.

I suppose this means Reid has effectively retired.

No, not at all. With his credentials (and his current title) he has some more pay days in him. Especially, I expect, in Germany.
