The Germans are coming. The two who make their way to Birmingham on September 18, Karo Murat and and Alexander Frenkel, are strong and unbeaten, and more than capable of severely testing their Welsh opponents, Nathan Cleverly and Enzo Maccarinelli respectively, although the hard part has largely been done: getting them out of Germany.
Murat, 26, is a former European super-middleweight champion who turned pro in a proverbial storm of first-round knockouts but needed the later rounds as he stepped up, and his strength, durability, workrate and sheer presence have taken over from his raw power today. He is described as Arthur Abraham without the punch, and that is a fair analogy.
Murat, 22-0 (13), won the European title from good Italian southpaw Cristian Sanavia on a unanimous 12-round decision in Germany in 2008 and wore him down and stopped him in 10 rounds in a quick rematch for the title, before relinquishing last year, rather reluctantly, to move up to light-heavyweight. The Iraqi-born fighter is stocky and small for his new division at 5ft 10ins, much smaller than the lofty Cleverly, whose debut opponent, the late Ernie Smith, took one look at him and barked, "Anyone got a step ladder?" Murat only moved up because Team Sauerland is stacked with super-middles.
The better-boxing Cleverly is this fight away from a shot at volatile German and WBO light-heavyweight champion, Jurgen Braehmer, but make no mistake, Murat, coached by Ulli Wegner, is the best fighter the 19-0 Cleverly has faced to date as a pro. As Mike Spinks crowed before Tyson, "Somebody's 0 must go."
Cruiserweight Frenkel looks even more dangerous, with eight of his last 10 opponents summarily dismissed. The 25-year-old stablemate of Murat turned pro four years ago and sped through his early fights, Leonard-like, to the 22-0 (17) he is today. Admittedly, Frenkel has been looked after. He stopped Ruben Groenewald in five rounds, the same number of rounds that it took Carl Froch but Froch is a super-middleweight, and blew away former IBF cruiserweight champion Kelvin "Koncrete" Davis in the first round, but this was after Davis broke his back in a bizarre fall. The American was on a poor losing run.
Of course opponents have to be whacked; they don't just fall over. Frenkel has blasted more than his fair share to secure his shot at Maccarinelli for the European title. He is young, has no fear and will come out swinging, and we know that Maccarinelli can be hit and hurt. We also know that big Enzo doles out the hurt himself and won the big EBU belt with a stunning first-round knockout of Russia's Alexander Kotlobay in Russia in April.
Maccarinelli is the more seasoned, more-rounded fighter of the two, setting up opponents with body shots before taking them out. On the day that news broke of the death of former ferocious heavyweight Mac Foster, this pair are liable to give us a ferocious brawl in the Bull Ring, thrills and spills guaranteed, but the champion is likely to be last man standing.

Great stuff, bennie.
Re: Enzo Mac and Cruiserweight Super 6
is frenkel a sauerland fighter? its hard to believe that a talented and hard hitting cruiserweight like frenkel is being sent over to the UK. along with light heavyweight murat, as well. on the same show.
frenkel, stylistically, reminds me of both enzo mac - due to a preferance for heavy left hooks - and tomasz adamek - who punches in fluid and relaxed combinations of punches.

lebedev's manager has apparently called out chisora, according to BS. apparently chiroa said he didn't like povetkin, who shares the same manager as lebedev. so lebedev apparently wants to get him.
i wouldn't take these kind of rows seriously and i;m sure chisora's promoter would dismiss it. anyway, lebedev needs to be getting a shot at a world cruiserweight title, not wasting time with domestic heavyweights.

it was a gaudy old fashioned top, wasn't it? like a villain out of the '60s batman show.
i wonder if he's had unlicenced or bare knuckle fights in his years off.

Enzo will win some lose some,he looked good last time out but he has had too many damaging defeats to have a good last quarter to his career, ya feel me?
Re: Enzo Mac and Cruiserweight Super 6
Enzo is ok, buts that all he is. Nice bloke and all, but he will suffer another stopage defeat of 2. Just not good enough at top level. Decent punch (not massive), decent chin, has bottle, just lacking somewhat.
As I said though, top bloke and very down to earth.
