Reid changes his mind, accepts offer to fight Lacy!

Lacy-Reid back on August 6

April 14, 2005 - Moments ago, Jeff Lacy's promoter Gary Shaw informed Boxingtalk.com that Team Robin Reid contacted him five minutes and agreed to face the undefeated IBF super middleweight champion on Showtime's August 6 installment of championship boxing. Remember where you heard it first! (4:30 PM ET)

It's like witter/ndou scenerio all over again...

Jess Harding must've screamed at him to get his fornicating shit together and take the fight. He won't regret it when he beats Lacy. This shows he has the desire to at least.

Source though isn't the most reliable I find. Most winnable world title fight out there for Reid.

Hope it's true, because I like Reid, and I think it's a good fight for Lacy as well.

Lacy keeps going up in my estimation, I must say: I'm still not overly convinced that he's a top-level fighter, but he's damn sure prepared to show he is. Ironic, as well, that he seems prepared to make a name against Europeans, whilst the guy we've considered no. 1 in the division didn't show the desire to go to the States.

Reid, for me, is pretty much on the slide. But he has plenty of experience, a more than respectable dig, and a granite chin. And I reckon he'll still come to win against Lacy: He may not be in his prime, but I would have thought that he still considers himself better than Lacy. Top fight. Any takers that Froch calls out the winner, should he get by Porras? Still don't think that Calzaghe fancies Lacy, as much as he says he does. I do think Joe will batter Veit, mind you......

probably unless Reid 's given up the IBO belt. Recently in the Super Flys Sikali/ Darchinyan fought in a mini unification

No, the website. Sometimes they get scoops, but plenty of times they jump the gun and get it wrong or just simply make stuff up / turn a passing rumour into a major news item. The guy doesn't have a lot of journalistic integrity IMO.

He 'allegedly' changes the chats he facilitates with boxers so that somewhere along the line they say something like 'BoxingTalk is the bollocks and I won't ever use another website for anything ever again, especially not (insert names of sites with which Leon is pissed off at that particular time)'

PETERSBURG, FL (April 14, 2005) -- After stalling out earlier today, the negotiations between IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy and the IBF's top-rated contender Robin Reid reached a successful conclusion this afternoon. Lacy will make his first mandatory title defense, against Reid, Saturday, August 6. The world title bout -- which also marks the U.S. debut of Reid -- will be televised by SHOWTIME.

"I wouldn't classify this as a miracle, just that it was meant to be" said promoter Gary Shaw reflecting on the quick turnaround in concluding the fight negotiations. "We hope to announce the site shortly."

"I am thrilled to be facing Robin," said Lacy. "He is a great champion and a true competitor. The fans in both our countries will see one heck of a fight on August 6!"

"Robin and I are thrilled to finally make this fight," said Jess Harding, Reid's manager. "We look forward to working together with Gary Shaw in a landmark fight that will mark Robin's debut in the United States, and we could not be happier to have it televised on Showtime. This is what every fighter dreams of, fighting for a world title on the sport's biggest stage. We cannot wait to bring the belt back home."

Lacy, 19-0 (15 KOs), from St. Petersburg, FL, captured the vacant IBF super middleweight title, October 2, 2004, knocking out Syd Vanderpool in the eighth round, becoming the first member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic team to win a world title. He has since become one of the busiest world champions, successfully defending his title in December and March against Omar Sheika and Rubin Williams, respectively.

Reid, 38-4-1 (27 KOs), from Runcorn, England, captured the WBC super middleweight title in 1996, knocking out defending champion Vincenzo Nardiello in the seventh round. He successfully defended the title three times during his one year reign, before losing it to Thulane Malinga via a 12-round decision. He has won 12 of his last 13 bouts, including the IBO super middleweight title last June, via a unanimous decision over previously undefeated Brian Magee. Magee, who had held the title since 2001, was sent to the canvas four times en route to a unanimous decision loss to Reid.

Style wise I think Lacy would give more problems to Froch and Calzaghe than Reid.

Reid would love a fighter to storm forward at him like Lacy does, but Froch has never had a real test yet so we don`t know how he`d react, and Calzaghe just seems too open and likely to get caught by one of those big shots.

And on the flip side Froch and Calzaghe would give Reid problems with their boxing, style wise this is Reids best chance, goodluck to him

Boxingtalk are very irresponsible, they post up any rumour doing the rounds as a scoop, and often take the testimony of one individual with a grudge as gospel truth.

I love that last line as well. Makes it sound like Reid destroyed Hagler and Robinson on one night with his hands behind his back.
