I like the fact that he has come in close to the limited. Danny trying to have fighters agree to lesser weights is just eveidence that his IBO is a paper belt

Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
Is the cruiser limit 200 lbs these days? I thought it was. 87Kgs was under 200 pounds last time I looked
Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
It's a frigging FARCE.
In title fights you can't set a limit within the limit.

Hi Anton
You didn't work at the 'Tavern' under the old Southern Cross hotel in the 80's in Melbourne, by chance?

Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
I liked briggs response that it was cruiserweight fight and he is at cruiserweight. he said he is not into this RJJ thing of meeting a silly weights. fair call.
I also noticed the green said the weight was "desgnated" 9 weeks ago, he didn't say it was "agreed".
In saying all that I am going to be happy no matter who wins as long as it is a good fight

Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
agreed catchweights are a funny one...never liked them.
especially when the fight is for a title...its basically like saying:
"okay, lets fight for this title in this weight division, BUT lets both sign a contract which basically eradicates the limits set for this weight division, and lets create our own weight division."
we have SET weight divisions for a reason...lets not fcuk the system up anymore.

Lion heart your nuts.

hmmmm, i have been a huge green fan, but this really is a piss ant thing to whinge about dont u think?colin russell wrote:Lion heart your nuts.
i really wanna see the guy fihgt someone meaningful. he started with rjj, and has followed up with rubbish.
and now there is talk of cameron next, REALLY???? how is that meaningful apart from money?
he is getting more like mundine all the time, and im losing respect.......
Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
I usually agree with you Bigred, but I'm with Lionheart on this one, I've got Briggs in a mid rounds stoppage, and I think, while I agree that there are more meaningful fights out there, and it is mostly a money thing, that Green-Cameron is a worthy fight and a damn sight better than any crap Mundine has tried to ply us with in the last few years.
Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
hey im not picking sides here mate, im just sick of talented aussie boxers taking the "easier fights" i know briggs can fight, and bang, but man hes been out for 3 yrs, coming against a guy in really good form. i dont see this fight going the same way as you, and i tend to agree with nsw for not sanctioning it, based on the fact there was no warm ups( i could very well be completely uneducated here but its one of the reasons i have seen).dberry wrote:I usually agree with you Bigred, but I'm with Lionheart on this one, I've got Briggs in a mid rounds stoppage, and I think, while I agree that there are more meaningful fights out there, and it is mostly a money thing, that Green-Cameron is a worthy fight and a damn sight better than any crap Mundine has tried to ply us with in the last few years.
i know green cameron is easily more worthy than the rot mundine is serving up, and will probabyl ever serve up from now on, but it still doesnt do us - the fans, justice. we pay $50 a fight to watch these guys beat up on rubbish fighters that have no business in the ring with these guys. pls tell me wat cameron has done to deserve that kind of shot? apart from a aus-nz rivalry??? i know its harsh but its tru, hes beatean hardly anyone of note really in HW, not CW and hes a big guy coming down a LONG way, i just see it as a money fight for green, when he should be chasing bigger fish, or not charging us the fans $50 for rubbish.
Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
do green's fights sell a lot of PPVs?
obviously he's a name, he's a well liked fighter, so he's able to get away with it - with the handicapping, the "dannyweight" of 180-pounds & the novelty opponents. i remember when he pulled out of his 1st defense of the WBA 175 title, a title won in an abysmal fight, and the whole card, incl chris john v jackson asiku, had to be scrapped. it seems you can't put on a major show without green, mundine or maybe darchinyan.
i hope the extra weight helps briggs, a guy who's not fought in a long time (but when he did fight, he featured in blood and guts battles vs adamek, trials the like of which green has never had to endure). i hope that extra hardness helps him tomorrow. briggs must be really motivated for this - for him it'll surely be bigger than a fight for any championship, a big home battle with danny green. hopefully it turns out well for briggs, a true warrior and an underrated technical fighter.

Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
It's all about selling tickets and seeing how gullible the journos are.
Cruiserweight is 200 pounds and Green knows there is nothing he can do about it.

Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
I doubt Briggs even made 87.2kg

I agree with you here it would be nice to see a fight with a champ but to me all these fight are for entertainment than anything substantialbigred83 wrote:hmmmm, i have been a huge green fan, but this really is a piss ant thing to whinge about dont u think?colin russell wrote:Lion heart your nuts.

you have lost me here he is in good form but has given us rubbish. I think green v briggs is a decent fight because although i love him iam not sure how good danny is! i suppose some people thought Oscar Siale would have been easy for Vea seeming he was a late call-up just remember there are two blokes fightingdberry wrote:hey im not picking sides here mate, im just sick of talented aussie boxers taking the "easier fights" i know briggs can fight, and bang, but man hes been out for 3 yrs, coming against a guy in really good form.
Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
No way you can compare Briggs/Cameron to Carlos Adan Jerez/Ryan Waters...
Green might not be fighting the title holders but he is not scrapping the bottom of the barrel either.

Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
I saw Briggs spar when he was up here in Bris a few weeks ago I will tell you how that went tommorrow.
Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
Marlin, he is starting to go down that road. This must stop or else he to will become a joke like Mundine.Marlin wrote:No way you can compare Briggs/Cameron to Carlos Adan Jerez/Ryan Waters...

In regards to the general thread, when you are a cruisers you have a weight limit of 90 KGs, Briggs came in at under that. Danny, it's game on!!! If Danny happens to challenge a world class cruiser you can bet your life that they will come in at the 90 KG so he need a reality check.
We all know the IBO title is a joke, and we know that Danny is beginning to become a joke in terms of his recent matchmaking/behaviour.
Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
i hope it goes well for briggs but he looked bloated at the weigh in and i'll bet he looks horrible in the ring. but i do hope he destroys green.
Re: Briggs overweight (well over Danny's weight)
NOT a fan autobarn??always liked Green but he is disappointing me and the circus that goes wit him, while still better thhan the Mundane farce,is just $ making.Makes a mockery of the sport i love. just hope something positive willl come. if not for green then, win or lose, BRIGGSY. Noow theres a champion. Fear he will get bashed BAD in this one.
