I think anyone who feels the need to chant or make racist comments at boxing shows just because they share an identity with one of the boxers are pathetic. I can understand people being patriotic in international match ups and it's good to support your man, but thats different.

There are thick pudenda on all sides, that much is evident in peoples accounts of the idiots in this thread. There will always be racism in one form or another, but its what the sport does to try and eradicate it that is key.

Football has come on leaps and bounds since the 80s and 90s regarding racism, and you can see the effort that has been made and the results it is producing.

Can anyone say that Boxing has made the same effort?

Its time for promoters and the BBBoC to get together and discuss the problem. Its not widespread as such, but its a given in certain thick headed pie eating areas and thats when promoters and others involved need to think 'Do we want to return a boxing bill here?'

Saw Crawford Ashley get some at York Hall once, but he shut the tossers up when he flattened Monty Wright. I think it was Johnny Nelson I saw get some nasty stuff at the same venue when he fought Lou Gent.

The lou gent fans at the nelson v gent fight were all from streatham and good mates with my uncles(who are mixed race) and it disgusts me who they could shout racist abuse at nelson when they wouldnt dare do it in Streatham!

I have seen many aggressive types at boxing shows; and go to between 10-20 a year (including amateur shows) but have not heard any racist shouling.

Bet like all crowds there will exist all types I suppose.

I find the rules/laws of racism completely and utterly unbalanced - I will leave it there except of course to say racism is completely unacceptable - but it works both ways - or maybe the words "it should work both ways" are the best thing to write.

On point, boxing is far more racially mixed than the UK as a whole. 92% of people in the UK are white, but I don't think 92% of boxers are white.

In a sport where this mix exists, I don't know- is there more likely to be racism, or less likley to be because its naturally integrated?

How can he, though? There's no way to stop anybody buying a ticket. What can he do? Say "please, any racist fans, don't come to my fight", and they all say "yeah, OK then"?

Agree - Khan has gone out of his way to not offend anyone, the obvious manifestation of this is the Union Jack / Pakistan joint flags on his trunks.
