usa boxing favoritism in scoring

Post by champion »

theyre giving theyre babies a cushion example warren vs russel warren throws 5 punch combination they give him 4 points there is no way them judges see 4 clean shots in that flurry.louie byrd granted throws alot of punches but the ridiculous scores in the 30s and 40s are unjust jesse hart threw a ton of punches against arias and gets no points these scores at this tournament are not reflective of true fights they just makin sure theyre favorites are gonna win :shame:

I have to agree.. i watched a few of Arias fights vs, Travis, Jesse Hart, & Ballard (Ballard to me, put a whipping on arias *funny how the videos came down*.. didn't see jesse's fight yet.. I heard it was a robbery) but it seem everytime Arias threw a punch, a point was scored... I don't like the point system, personally.. it doesn't solve the problem.. if there are favorites... what's the difference?, When all judges have to do is count a punch thrown by the guy they favor and be reluctant to count a punch thrown by the guy they don't favor... BOXING IS A SPORT WHERE AGGRESSION, HARD PUNCHING, DEFENSE, & SKILLS SHOULD BE THE REASONS A FIGHTER SHOULD WIN, NOT AN OPINION IF A PUNCH WAS CONNECTED CLEAN... SINCE THE POINT SYSTEM WAS PUT IN.. AMERICANS HAVEN'T DONE WELL!!! Jesse Hart.. HEART was broken, he's a personal friend of mine... If he lost.. he would admit to defeat.. But for young man to be caught in the politics of sports.. it is discouraging for the athlete.. I'M NOT COMPLAINING because he lost.. People are noticing favoritism.. and Jesse was a victim of it.. i'm just agreeing with the topic... MY OPINION!!!!!!! :witzend:

USA boxing forced me to take it down or else my credentials were going to be taken away for the semi & finals. I was no longer allowed to videotape the events after having 4 days of full access on the ring. Am I disappointed? That's an understatement.

PhillySteve, thanks. It's all good, Arias paid his dues and congrats to him. I know my boy Jesse is still hungry, HE WILL BE BACK! As for Trav, he went to Russia for a boxing tournament and slipped in the shower and cut his arm so deep blood gushed everywhere and he just missed his nerve. That's why he missed the regionals for the USA's where he was a favorite. He is 99.9% recovered and will be back in action soon. Trav just like to fight. We dont want problems we just wanna handle business. Next year matters. Lets go for the prize.

It is ridiculous that the videos had to come down. If the videos show poor officiating, including the scoring, then USA Boxing needs to do something about it. The answer is NOT to say that videos can't be shown. What will they do next? Say fans aren't allowed to WATCH the bouts for fear of them criticizing the officials?

Our sport needs exposure and the videos can help with it.

Gosh Dennis, with your common sense and desire to promote the sport, it's no wonder USA Boxing doesn't have you running the show. God knows they don't value those traits, apparently.

I just don't understand tht. Media has been the foundation for many other sports without being a hindrance to good strategy and coaching. In other combat sports and even pro boxing, it's no secret what you opponent plans to do, but you still have to execute. The benefits of having videos up for boxers, their families, coaches, officials, executives outweigh any perceived problems that will be caused. It also helps us record history. Without video, we are back in the stone ages with word of mouth. Video is nothing more than 30 pictures per second strung together. I can't imagine someone being asked to remove photos they took as a credentialed member of the media. Our sport of amateur boxing just gets more disappointing every day.

What I don't understand (Not saying I understand any of it! LOL) But what I want to know is why didn't they inform you this on the first day or second? Why did they wait and tell you this on Friday I think it was? It's not like you were hiding the fact you had video recording these fights hahaha!

I absolutley love the sport of boxing, as i know all of you do as well, but This is ridiculus! we as coaches try to teach our kids to work hard and set goals only to be snuffed out by someone else. I normally disagree with coaches complaing about decisions, but when i hear that videos are not allowed to be shown, thats just too far! We have to take our sport back or lose it forever!

Hello fellow boxing fan, I have alot of videos of the 2010 USA championship maybe all of the fights, I will be posting them on YouTube regardless of what USA boxing says! I paid my way there, my hotel,food..ex so those are my videos and I can and will do as a please with them, sorry but that's how it is, the only way I won't post the is if the coaches don't want them up but as far as USA boxing telling me not too, they better have a lawyer tell me that I can't and even if they do, they better have some legal grounds..

They are the reasons that a fighter wins if the aggression, hard punching, defense, and skills result in referee stoppage ;)

The only reason that I can think of as to why they would want him to take the videos down is that they can possibly profit from their own archives from time to time by selling throwback footage of certain standout boxers to certain media outlets like HBO, Shotime, or even documentry film makers. I know ive seen HBO highlight amateur footage occaisionally. The Delahoya Mosely buildup is a good example.... That being said, I do agree that its bogus to ask Jonathan to take them down. My fight that I actually lost by one point was up thier and i would have liked my coach to be able to see it... Jonathan is doing a great thing for our sport with his frontpage boxing site. I encourage everyone to check it out. :TU:

HBO isn't gonna pay for any videos that they can get from us coaches, boxers and families of boxers for free. If my boxer was on HBO and they wanted some footage, here ya go! We talk about helping out the sport and promoting the sport to offset the popularity of other sports like MMA and this is how USAB treats a credentialed journalist who spent his time and money to cover a major tournament--better than USAB did I may add. He's a one-man operation, so there's really no excuse for that. A major tournament that was pretty much only promoted within the boxing community (amateurs) and not the general public. I know that a lot of out boxer's friends have no clue what they do, even at the elite national level. They just know "he or she boxes and they are good". They often can't travel to these nationals and most elite boxers don't get a lot of bouts at the local level. My pt is what Jonathan and others, myself included, try to do is to highlight and share the talents of some of the nation's top amateur boxers. I just don't get it, but I can bet you that the WSB will embrace the technology and medium--and flourish as far as promoting their events and matches. To say that I'm disappointed is an understatement. I'm just pissed off. As long as the powers that be stay in this frame of mind, amateur boxing in the United States will continue to suffer. I guess the only way I'll be able to see these boxers in action is to watch them in person or just listen to stories like it's 1910 and not 2010.

Y'know I read John 'Iceman' Scully's writings on amateur boxing bouts and it was enjoyable. I just wish that there were some videos to those bouts. There's no reason why we can't document our sports history. There's a lot of great fights that doesn't take place in the finals and they need to be documented.

Thanks Tommy & DC. I'm planning on posting the videos onto a site where you can actually download them onto your computer and put them on a DVD for your own collection. I was just given a link to the site and I think it's great. I'll keep you all posted.

I apologize for not keeping the website up to date. I spent the whole day yesterday with my family for the first time during our stay in Colorado and drove up to Pikes Peak! It was raining as we were driving up there but with some prayer & fasting... we saw a whole in the clouds and asked the Lord for the opening in the clouds to come over us. Sure enough we got a lot of sunshine and the clouds went away. My son loved it! It was 47 his lips were shivering and he didn't want to go inside. He kept on shouting 'Wow'! lol We got home late @ 4am and I had 3 hours of sleep. I'm tired. Everything will be caught up by tomorrow.

I'll be looking forward to those videos CoachJ.

At the last Olympic Trials in Houston, I was told by USA Boxing that I could not record any ring action. There were MANY MANY fights that took place the first 3 days when there were NO cameras recording from NBC. Then what was recorded (semis, finals, and box-offs) was shown in a 1 hour highlight show, I believe. I was lucky to have witnessed many great fights and fighters during that period that were only captured by fans or family/friends of fighters from the stands.

everyone knows what the problem is, people is just afraid to say what they really wanna say on the blog because they know revenge will be swift and sweet. lets face it. some people are gonna win no matter what if you dont knock em out. but whats worse is the wall of silence amongst many people in usab. these people control the destiny of young men and women in usab. people have seen kids wronged in usab and didnt say anything now its happening to them its a problem. these people stood by and watched. now it spread like wild fire over to them its an injustice. this is our kids sport. they the ones who sacrifice parts of their lives for this sport. IM MAD NOW. im not finished either.

You are describing the professional boxing scoring criteria. The amateur boxing scoring criteria is totally different - always has been and always will be.

>
SINCE THE POINT SYSTEM WAS PUT IN.. AMERICANS HAVEN'T DONE WELL!!!
It has ALWAYS been the point system. Nothing has changed. US boxers don't do well in international competition because their style, for the most part, is geared toward pro boxing and judges don't score anything other than legal effective punches landing in the scoring area with the white knuckle surface of the glove.

@FRONT PAGE BOXING - I noticed that you had taken the USA Nationals bouts down, but what I would like to know is would it be ok for me to put the bouts on youtube? I have over 60 bouts that I video taped out in Colorado. This will help promote the sport of boxing and boxers that participate in the sport. I know a lot of singers have gotten discovered just off youtube and could be a great tool for boxers that no one knows about. The only fighers that most of us know about are the one's USA Boxing promotes.
