Where should Danny Green go next?
Where should Danny Green go next?
With everyone saying he needs to fight a top Cruiserweight I have given a brief summary of his top five options according to BoxRec:
1 Steve Cunningham 23(12)-2(0)-0 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
Last fought – 5/6/2010 beating Troy Ross TKO5
Recent history – Good opposition, traded wins with Wlodarczyk, beat Huck, lost to Adamek, beat Braithwaite.
He is the clear number one and has travelled, he’s fought in the US, Germany, Poland, South Africa, etc. Has no fights scheduled.
2 Marco Huck 29(22)-1(1)-0 Bielefeld, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany
Last fought – 1/5/2010 stopping Minto
Recent history – Wins over mid level competition, Ramirez, Afolabi, Richards.
Home town fighter, who has only ever fought in Germany, scheduled to fight Matt Godfrey in August.
4 Denis Lebedev 21(16)-0(0)-0 Chekhov, Russia
Last fought – 17/7/2010 whooped Alexeev in 2 (who had whooped Ammann in 2 in his previous bout)
Recent history – Seems to have been hand fed early on but has a win over Maccarinelli and seems to be building his level of opposition.
He has fought mainly in his homeland of Russia but also in UK and Germany, no fights scheduled.
5 Yoan Pablo Hernandez 22(11)-1(1)-0 Halle an der Saale, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany
Last fought – 5/6/2010 UD8 over journeyman Zack Page
Recent history – Lost the only time he stepped up via TKO3 to Braithwaite, but he does have a KO1 win over Azzaoui. Very limited opposition.
Only ever fought in Germany, no fights scheduled.
6 BJ Flores 24(15)-0(0)-1 Chandler, Arizona, United States
Last fought – 15/8/2009 account for Epifanio Mendoza in 4
Recent history – Padded record where he has done the job against limited opposition, a 12 round UD over Darnell Wilson is the sole highlight.
Has only fought in the US but claims he will travel, no fight scheduled and really needs to get in the ring.

Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
How about Krysztof Wlodarczyk (or whatever his name is) the current WBC champion?
About time he fought somebody outside of Europe.

Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
I'd be happy with any of the above fighters. He actually needs one of those fights to restore credability. Paul Briggs got hit with a fair few beers last night.

Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
yep agree any of those guys would do it for me
i would love to see cunning ham because he is so solid looking and green wont just be able to power around him and might bring out something new in the green machine .

Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
Got a feeling Briggs would not take any warm up fights because he knew he was shot and did not want to risk missing a decent payday.
Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
I would love to see him fight Lebedev or Wlod. Bouts with these men would be wars, as both fighters hit hard and prefer to stand and trade. They are both much stronger than anyone Green has ever faced. Hernandez would probably be the most winnable fight for Green though.
Honestly, I would be happy if Green took on any legitimate top ten cruiserweight, but I doubt he will.

Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
I think he will. He seemed pretty pissed off at Briggs' chickenshit display. Briggs is a former light heavyweight contender and younger than Green. I doubt Green expected him to pull that stunt.crusader wrote:I would love to see him fight Lebedev or Wlod. Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
I really hope you are right. Green has what it takes beat top fighters, so it is quite disapointing when you look at the guys he has fought in the last two years.Brute wrote:I think he will. Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
As Brute said I think he has to step it up now. He lost a lot of fans last night. I know I was sitting there after the fight thinking why did I bother, will I bother next time? If that is what a boxing fan is thinking then imagine the casual observer, he will not be back, especially in the middle of a week on a Wednesday. To make things right he has to fight a genuine world class international fighter. Forget Cameron or any other domestic fighter, he needs to go bigger.
Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
I must start by saying a fight with Cameroon is not good enough. I think the thinking behind this is that Danny is say he has KO'ed a heavyweight even though Shane would have shedded 15 Kgs to get there, and he looked awful last night. Danny Green would be best advised NOT to take this fight.
I would chase down a fight with BJ Flores. He will not put up with the "Dannyweight" crap, he would offer us an opportunity to see if that chin can hold up since Dannys return. And lets be fair Danny's chin has not been tested since his return.
He could fight Vea for the far more prestigous Commonwealth title and ditch the IBjOke belt.
Danny (if you read these boards) - The BOXREC Australian board is not happy, stop acting like a Mundine and get in the ring with a Live Cruiser opponent (NOT CAMERON).

Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
I agree that Flores is a good fight for his first real test at cruiser.
However I don't think Vea is a good enough fight, I like Vea, he is a good domestic fighter but Green needs more than for his next fight.

yeah vea isnt good enuf and green sparred with him to recently he knows he would own him
even if it takes ten i still dont want it to happen
flores would be a good start but for me its cunningham i want to see
Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
Judging by the Cruisers coming thru Forsyth,Pitt and Neiman, Vea who i give my full support to just might not be the top guy come the end of the year in Australia.
Flores would keep the americans happy, but seriously Flores gets starched hes best opponent was that 29-7 guy on the undercard of Lacy/RJJ, and he hasn't fought since.
Either Cunningham who i think Green beats, Cunningham would of lost that fight against Ross if not for the thumb in the eye, or he go's to europe again to either bring a fighter here or he go's there to fight them.
Whats with all these people that think Greens skills are limited from the current scene, fair enough he's no run away Mayweather or the great Ali, but the guy can box, he's jab is pretty fantastic and we all know he's greatest attribute's is his power and chin.

Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
because he isnt fancy mate thats why most of his combos you dont even see land till in slow mo, he doesnt show boat or drag fights along he smashes people with amazing power , he can take a punch like NOBODY ive seen and to top it off he's a top bloke. some locals where saying he recently would leave a signing in mandurah till everbody in the line got their autograph what a champHounddawg wrote:Judging by the Cruisers coming thru Forsyth,Pitt and Neiman, Vea who i give my full support to just might not be the top guy come the end of the year in Australia.

Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
From medical evidence that has come out after the fight, Briggs was really hurt. He was taken to hospital with concussion. The blow landed just in the right spot to cause brain stem damage.

He looked like he was in no condition to continue
Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
To cause damage or simply highlight existing damage???

Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
Yes in the cold light of the next day -- and hangover fast disapearing Ive gone back and watched a replay of the fight and the slow motion does show the glove contact the top of Brigg's head. With reports of Brigg's attending hospital with concussion also filtering in...And now Green also claiming he did feel that at time the punch was solid...and he also appears to be retracting some of the comments he made last night...I still dont know what to think of the whole affair...as for next opponent I'd like to see BJ FLORES. He's already stated publicly that he would love to fight GREEN and would be more than happy to travel here to do it. Personally I think if GREEN is serious about landing a BIG NAME he sould take on FLORES in the US. We will all be watching a lot more closely what GREEN AND GREEN MACHINE PROMOTIONS come up with for his next fight because as it stands the comparisons with the antics of MUNDINE and his camp are getting all too similar as much as i hate to say it!!! ![[icon_knockout.gif] :KO:](./images/smilies/icon_knockout.gif)
Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
his next opponent is crucial to his reputation and the reputation of boxing as a sport in this country. But i'm not going to speculate over who it should be.
I have to be honest, I don't think I can take this too much more. I'm being selfish I know, but I've been a good boxing fan over the years. I've done what I should do as a fan. I've gone to live fights, I've bought PPVs, I've frequented pubs that show live fights and I've spoken to people who are not specific boxing fans about how great coming fights are going to be.
But now I think I've been jibbed once too often. I didn't buy this PPV. I didn't know if I'd be home in time, but I'm glad I didn't. I understand that it about money for the fighters...I do understand this. But this is not the only sport in the world that is about money. There are heaps of them, and in just about every other professional sport that i can think of the fans get a better bang for their buck than from boxing.
I think it is about time my buck was spent elsewhere.

sellfish aint the word i would use top. If you were an english soccer fan and a team like arsenal kept playing the likes of scunthorpe or crewe(3 divisions lower) you wouuld be pissed. and you should, as all ausie boxing fans, shhould be pissed withh the garbage we have received for years from our "top" boxers.
compare vic to green and mundane. and hhow much recognition does vic get in the mainstream. bugger all.
thhe media have allowed greeen and muundane to have their high profile and in the beginning deserved it. now i fear the media will use the last few fights to puut"boxing back in its place"at the bottom of the sports agenda where the majority of the pC wank brigade who the commercial media spew their garbage to feel it should be....coz Ray Martin told them it wasnt safe-u know whhat i mean. considering how far boxing came on the backs of green and mundine it is now going to return to the swamps duue to thhe two that broughht it back into mainstream. that shits me. and now their is a genuine rival for the "combat sport" slot
uunless their is aa rapid turn around i fear boxing will go baack to just the hardcore supporters.yes- us battered and weary loyalists.
as to the posts ? top 10 opponent SOOn or fark off Green. UUntil he does i willl call him Greey. a side of me hopes that Briggs KO was genuine. e just does not strike me as the sort to dog a fight and dive. BUT money is an evil i guess

Re: Where should Danny Green go next?
Forget Australia or NZ, there are no fighters here that would test Green....as for Cameron if he was hoping his display last night would generate interest, he is wrong.
I would like to see Cunningham or Flores. After last night Green must now rebuild his reputation by fighting a live, highly world ranked opponent regardless if it is the most financially rewarding for him.

Win Lose or Draw he must get the boxing fans back on side.
